Nice museum with nice shop.
The exhibition about Pompei was beautiful and despite the crowds you could still see everything well. And you easily have 3hours tour with permanent collection and other exhibitions.

Beautiful exhibition about Armenian history. Even though there was no queue but the museum was pretty full and I would recommend getting tickets in advance.

We have visited amazing exhibition 1. POMPEI and Herculaneum 2. Drentse veenlijken 3. Poppenhuis
Everything is amazing starting with the museum building.

Almost a thousand years ago, Cistercian nuns laid the first stone of the Drents Museum. In 1259 they received permission from the bishop of Utrecht to build a new monastery on the site where the museum now stands

The Statenzaal is without doubt the most beautiful room in the Drents Museum. The hall is lavishly decorated.

Visitors to the Drents Museum nowadays enter through a coach house from the end of the 18th century

Architect Erick van Egeraat deliberately chose the color white for the new building of the Drents Museum. White is neutral, so that the colorful collection of the museum comes into its own. White also provides an exciting contrast to the historic buildings of the museum

The floating stairs in the new building of the Drents Museum weigh 16,000 kilos each and are only attached to the upper and lower floors. The stairs were first tested in the factory in Dokkum

My favorite exhibition is Poppenhuis

In the 18th century, it was a hobby for rich women to make dollhouses. A doll's house in those days was not a child's toy, but a serious matter

a visitor can listen to a lecture by Barbara van Lier's daughter and gossip and slander in the girls' room or smell freshly baked bread in the kitchen. This is how the public imagines itself in Drenthe and Assen in the 18th century

The Van Gogh in Drenthe exhibit (temporary) is absolutely wonderful. It's immersive and informative. A really fascinating look at his early work and development. (Dec 2023)

We visited later in the day ~4pm. Facilities (shop, lockers, etc) are also modern and attractive. We're definitely going back to check out the permanent collection.

The location is local but the exhibitions are international.
You can spend ours there.
A modern space underground and a historical building at once.
There is also a lunchroom and lockers for your belongings.
The garden is next to the museum.

We filmed inside of this museum while covering Assen as part of our challenge "12 capitals of the Netherlands" and we used the museum card because it's valid here. In terms of price/quality the museum is exceptional. So many activities for both adults and kids, we loved it there!

Small regional museum with an interesting collection. Building is interesting in itself. Small but well executed temporary exposition: American Dream, of mid twentieth century US art

Beautiful museum with changing themed expositions, highly recommended when visiting Assen. Pictured is a painting from the temporary Barbizon themed display. The museum itself has a small giftshop and cafe, as well as safes for your personal items. Coins for these can be collected at the downstairs lobby.

Very well laid out, lots to see including interactive elements. The staff were helpful and there was a very smart looking brasserie inside. Perhaps not so much for very young children (though their entry is free) but otherwise well worth the trip. Entry is 15 Euro for adults.

Nice museum with changing expositions and also a large collection on local history, although part of that collection is currently unavailable due to rebuilding of the museum.

Pleasantly surprised by this museum! Beautiful building, friendly staff and excellent exhibitions. It's a long ride into the country but definitely worth the visit. Make sure you don't miss their Nubia exhibition! Nice museum cafe too.
