Matemwe Rock Restaurant

An absolutely amazing place to have a relaxing dinner! The location is stunning, staff very friendly and really exceptionally caring and attentive. We had chicken curry with rice & chicken skewers with grilled vegetables. The food was delicious, prices reasonable. Highly recommended to everyone!!

Very nice restaurant to enjoy the evening light at the beach. Delicious food - especially the fish soup is highly recommendable. The waiter was very friendly and the service was excellent.

Very tasty food and cold bear served by friendly staff.
Seafood soup was delicious and rich in ingidients. Salad had nice balance between vegetables, mango, dressing and octopus which was really delicate. I think that it was the best octopus out of approx 5 places where we tried it - others were sadly just fine or completely unetable.
As restaurant is placed on rocks above Matemwe beach you will dine with beautiful elevated view to the beach and ocean.

The food was excellent, the best we’ve had yet in Zanzibar. We ordered fresh mango juice, fish curry, tuna tataki with black pepper, and the coconut fish soup. It was all amazing. And the little breads they serve are super yummy too and a nice detail! Everyone at Matemwe Rock was really nice too and they took care of us the whole time. This restaurant is a must if you are in the area.

The restaurant offers a seat by paradise. Special mention goes out to the spaghetti alia oglio, the chicken and Parmesan spaghetti and the tomato based spaghetti. Tastes just like supreme home food. Only area improvement could be the cocktails but that’s a small price to pay for an excellent meal set against paradise.

The waiters at this Restaurant were some of the nicest people we‘ve Met on our 3 week Trip through Kenya and Zanzibar. It was our anniversary and my boyfriend asked beforehand if we could have some flowers at the table, as a surprise and they Went above and beyond. The food was also delicious and the view is amazing.

Fantastic beach restaurant. Driving there can be interesting but really worthi it. The sea food soup is well worth trying.

Best tuna tartare in my life

I came here for dinner because I saw good reviews. But the food was just insane. Doris the waitress is super sweet and made it even more enjoyable.

The tuna tartare is simply superb. Catch of the day and daily sweet was both yummy.

Beyond all expectations.

I think that this restaurant would absolutely be fully booked every night if it was in a busier location. The service was absolutely impeccable. The staff were kind friendly and attentive. The food and drinks were delicious. While staying in Matemwe I noticed that not a lot of people were moving around between hotels and restaurants along the beach, which is a shame because this is such a lovely spot to go to. You should absolutely visit if you’re in Matemwe. It was safe walking there and back at night, I think it would be even nicer at sunset.

Absolutely superb little restaurant situated up on a rock at the southern end of the beach with great views back over the water. Easily accessible from Sevi resort and other surrounding hotels.
We ate dinner here twice during our stay in Matamwe - superb on both occasions. Staff friendly and professional. Cost was approx $35 for two. Seafood in particular was exquisite in taste and the way it was presented. I had the catch of the day - red snapper & barracuda. Both were excellent. Highly, highly recommend , especially compared to the food at the hotel (Sevi) that we’re staying at. Just to note that they accept card payments with 3% added on.

Great food, great experience! Had some tuna tartare, grilled tuna, and passion fruit cashew cake for dessert.

However the credit card machine did not work and they charged a 3 percent commission for cc use.

Food is excellent. Portion is huge. The seafood pasta is not Italian pasta but the taste was on point. And the rock lobster salad is fine dining standard.

Usually the food is very excellent. 2 times it was a 5 star and 1 time only a 3.5 star. Seems that the staff teams are different sometimes. Prices slightly higher than elsewhere

Really good food here, better than most places we've eaten in Zanzibar (not even close actually). I highly recommend it.

Very exciting Restaurant. Great food, also some beer and wine available. I can highly recommend the octopus salad, what a great experience that was!

An excellent restaurant with really tasty food. The staff is friendly and helpful. Cool location with a breathtaking view. Lots of different types of food, also for people who don't like seafood. Everybody will found something for themselves. Even if you didn't like anything from the menu, you can easily communicate with a chief and have something special for you! In my point of view, this is the best option in this area. I promise you won't be disappointed!

Best food and service we’ve had in Zanzibar. Great location overlooking the sea. Very warm and kind service. Main courses are very large and well prepared. We had chicken skewers, catch of the day (lobster!), and a burger (giant). Wonderful place to hang for a drink and food while the sun goes down.
