Barafu Camp

Last camp before the summit. Its a steep camp, but it means you have great views. There is some internet access through mobile network.

This camp is a straight forward hike from Karanga camp. The camp sits at 4673m above sea level. At this camp, you can see the beautiful view of the Mawenzi peak and the Kibo peak.
The camp is sloppy and since it is quite high, it is very cold and sometimes even snows.
This camp serves as the base camp as you ascend to the Uhuru peak.
Barafu camp is close to Kosovo camp which sits at around 5000m asl.
Both of these camps have helipads

Short hike to Barafu from Karanga, but barren and rough trails. A midnight start for the summit is to come far too soon!

Beautiful view, but the ground is fragile

Very cold during the night and the camp is also quite exposed to wind.

Most beautiful place 🙂

There's not much you can expect from the basecamp at 4600m.
It is basic, with a few ablution facilities.
It's also quite rocky and dusty, as you're in the alpine desert climate.
It's really cold at night, but you'll probably spend most of the night with your trek up Kili.

A place with a lot of beautiful and amazing places, a wondering place,it stands 4700amsl. A good view of KIBO PEAK and MAWENZI PEAK.

There is a great view of barafu camp, when descending from Uhuru peak.

View of Uhuru peak is perfect from this campsite when the fog is not around...! Hehe .This is also the base camp of Mt. Kilimanjaro. People coming from different start points merges here to climb Uhuru peak..the highest point of Mt. Kilimanjaro. There are toilets for both tourists and locals ..(paying and non-paying visitors..🙂).In a crowded day, 200-250 tents can fit on this camp site...some said even 300.!

Crazy freaking weather at this camp. It was probably in the 30s when we arrived, with clouds swirling around. Then the sun came out and it was suddenly warm enough to break out the wipes for a quick camp bath. Somewhere in the 70s or 80s. Then the mists swirled in again and the temperature plummeted back to the 30s.
I was surprised at the crowd. There must have been a thousand of us.

Was great life time adventure worth all aspects of it.

Very close to summit Be ready for cold temperatures and less oxygen Fifth and last night stay in the route to upward Kilimanjaro by trek. Beautiful landscapes and jungle. 8/9 hours hiking approximately to reach next camp . The camp is amazing itself set by the porters with tents to sleep, cook and eat separately.
