Communal Cafe

Located in the heart of Nevada City, Communal Cafe is a delightful gem that never fails to impress. Exceptional service and inviting atmosphere, make it a favorite spot of ours for some time.

The staff at Communal are friendly and fun and it's evident that they take pride in their work and are committed to continuously raising the bar. The atmosphere in the cafe is another favorite of mine, theres room to work, lounge and the long communal (see what I did there) tables make mingling with new people very easy and exciting, they also often have live music too.

Any dish we've tried was delicious and apparently they're all from locally sourced ingredients, and their pastries, oh my god.

I've definitely seen this place when it is slow and when it is way overcrowded on busy weekends when people from outside of town travel in, and all in all the wait for service or orders was always within reason.

This cafe walks the walk. They go above and beyond to buy from local farms and producers, and the proof is in the pudding...and the coffee and pastries and meals.

I love the seasonal drink menus. The Meadow Medley is a really nice treat. Their coffee drinks are also fabulous, and their beans are from a regional roaster.

All the food is fantastic. But I especially love the bowls. The salmon bowl has perfectly cooked fish and an amazing vinegarette. I also love the potato bowl and my GF friends have great things to say about the paleo bowl. The gyro is also amazing.

Great service, great food, great vibe and atmosphere. The basic breakfast was well seasoned. The extra crispy bacon was think dry and salted well. The eggs were fluffy and cheesed up great. There was a line and a few people working on their computers. I'm particular about my latte and I liked mine.

Such an exceptional cafe you are unlikely to find anywhere. In a stunning feat of leadership, the crew is even finer than the coffee. The food is also exceptional, and provides a great value. Places like this should be venerated and cherished. Clearly the locals know this, as the place is always humming lightly with pleasant conversation. Every town should be this lucky, and if you're passing through, prepare to be saddened that you don't live here. Commiserate with a tasty treat, and then be on your way. Just a great sport for lunch or breakfast. When I visit Nevada City, I end up coming in 2-3 times. Friendly staff, inventive drinks, and great food.

It can get busy, but just relax and enjoy the experience. We don’t always need to be in a rush!

This cozy space is inclusive and has the most beautifully presented food. I got the Avocado toast on gluten-free bread and it was awesome! The staff is extremely friendly and customise your order to perfection.

I’ve eaten here plenty of times, always a delicious meal. Today I had the chicken gyro and WOW it was delicious from 1st to last bite. The chicken especially was flavorful and gave a little burst of tastiness with every bite in the middle of the gyro. Well done! This might be my go-to meal here now.

So spacious, love the atmosphere and big tables. Plenty of outlets if you want to sit and stay a while to work or write or homework. Although I couldn’t get any work done because the flavors of the chicken gyro were so delicious they demanded my full attention. Flavor packed, tender, so yummy!!!! And the lemon lavender latte was also out of this world. Loved all the options. Will definitely be frequenting.

Lovely place. Good coffee, excellent healthy food, gluten free pastries! We’ll probably be getting at least coffee there every day of our visit.

Had cappuccino, their "standard breakfast" plus a churro doughnut. Food and pastries made in their kitchen. Perfect. Great location. Beautiful, large space with lots of seating.

Self service. Wonderful friendly place to hang around. Most decadent doughnuts. The food and salads are yummy. Lots of space in the restaurant . Great place to meet up. I also like their rose latte

There is an abundance of drink options! Very clean simple layout and very yummy food. Had a hard time deciding what treats to try... So we got the churro doughnut, pumpkin cake, apple muffin & apple cranberry scone with a mushroom coffee & kids sparkling elixir 😊 enjoyed it all! (Forgot to take pictures when we first got them 😂)

A bright friendly space with plenty of room to either sit at a communal bench, grab a table or relax in an arm chair.
Whether making this a spot to be more social while working remotely, catching up with friends or just popping in for a coffee or bite, it's always worth stopping by.

I have lived in Nevada city most of my life, and I have not experienced a better café/restaurant/pastry experience and bustling friendly communal internet workspace than what Communal Cafe offers. And I've just discovered that one of their sweetest employees, is also there fabulous pastry chef, who was trained in Paris, and makes the most incredible treats that I've ever had in our little town.

Communal Café in my opinion is our finest food spot in Nevada city with the most delicious breakfast and lunch menu, and the warmest owners and staff. I love my little town of Nevada City and I am so grateful to have such a welcoming place to hang with friends and spend my remote workdays.

This place never disappoints. The winter menu is in full effect so I tried a frostbite latte. With Blue pea butterfly milk.

Great cafe where you can work while grabbing a bite to eat.

Loves the atmosphere of this locally owned coffee shop. Spacious interior. Great for cyber-work. Large tables with plenty of space to move around. Clean. We’ll organized. Good service and delicious medium blend coffee. Looking forward to coming again.

Love this very spacious gathering place right in town. Large choice of quality tea and coffee drinks and delicious food. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Vegetarian and vegan options. 😋

Friendly staff, dog friendly. "The Plate" was an excellent choice for lunch!

I was thinking this was mostly a coffee shop when I went for an afternoon chai latte, but then realized they have a full breakfast and lunch menu! I’ll definitely go back to try the food, soon.
