The Stone House

My husband and I tried the Stone House for the first time as a birthday adventure for me and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. We went during happy hour- amazing deals. Every drink and dish were so unique and enjoyable. We were excited to see rare mushroom dishes- a morel and asparagus small plate and a lion’s mane steak entree. Both totally blew us away. We also tried the chicken mole, white pizza, arancini, and strawberry tart. All of it was impeccable. We also enjoyed the two bartending women. They were excellent. Highly, highly recommend.

Definitely enjoyed the meal at Stone House. Everyone was very friendly. The food and drink were good and atmosphere neat. A nicer and little different experience in Nevada city.

Beautiful wedding venue! Megan and her staff were super helpful! I was a the florist for a wedding this past Saturday. I did not have the opportunity to eat due to the wedding.

Awesome experience dining in The Cavern at The Stone House. Went for a company outing and enjoyed happy hour drinks at the bar while waiting for everyone to arrive. The bar tender was so incredibly friendly and happy to offer drink suggestions. The wait staff was courteous as well. We were brought to the cavern and told that it used to be an old wine celler, so it is chilly. They have heaters available for that reason. Once seated, we ordered all kinds of appetizers, entrees and desserts and every one of them was delicious. Definitely recommended!

Hands down the best dining experience in Nevada County! Excellent menu combined with first-rate service, in a unique and charismatic space. The food and presentation were comparable the very best I’ve experienced in high-end SF, NY, & LA eateries, while the vibe of the place is pure Gold Country: rock-solid and unpretentious.
Tonight’s details: we started with a delightful asparagus and creamy cashew soup and an appetizer of thin-sliced beets, then moved on to the scallops with puréed cauliflower & pesto and the fettuccine with morel mushrooms and prawns. Both of these paired beautifully with the featured Chardonnay. I wish I had taken pictures for you, but you’ll have to imagine them… or go experience it for yourself!

I had a milestone Birthday celebration at the Stonehouse and it was fabulous! Booked the cavern for an intimate vegetarian dining experience followed by a private dance party in the upstairs bar. I worked with the chef on the food courses based on the options on their main menu and the offerings were exciting & unusual - not your run-of-the-mill veggie options. I also had my main party at the upstairs bar, and they let me transform the space with my own djs , lighting etc .. and name my own specialty cocktails. The fabulous penthouse upstairs served as an excellent place to host my out of town guests. What I loved most was that they were easy to work with and communicative, guided me through the process while also stepping into the background when needed to allow it to feel I could host my own private party.
Definitely a memorable experience, in a unique historic building in lovely downtown Nevada City!

From the moment we walked in the door, through the entire process of ordering the food, the service to the time we were finished, everything was top notch. Looking forward to returning a trying a different menu item. Thank you Scotty for a rewarding first experience and looking forward to seeing you again.

Came for the last night of "Gold can't love you back" and I gotta say it was hands down the best musical I have ever seen! Venue is timeless, a true Nevada City classic and it fit the theme perfectly. Bar was well staffed and the wait was never more than a couple of minutes. Seating was tight but everyone managed albeit more than a bit of shuffing was involved... Restrooms were clean, AC was cold. All in all it was a great night out at a really fun little historic building...

Food was amazing, chef Garrett is 5 star talented, even came to our table. He really knows flavor, sauces and how to balance it all with outstanding, fresh, ingredients. I started with asparagus and cashew cream soup which tasted clean and creamy with shaved strips of asparagus and small bits of cashews. My husband ordered the Lemon Thyme Spaetzle (German pasta) for his appetizer and we were blown away by the savory flavor of this dish, unexpectedly over-the-top good. Had brown butter, super fresh Black Trumpet mushrooms that were foraged and Fed Exed to the chef from the Mendocino coast, and a cheese crisp of Parmeson on top. (I would come back just for this dish, order 2 helpings with a glass of wine, and I'm set.) My entrée- the seared scallops, were cooked perfect, with flavor that satisfied a multitude of ecstatic taste buds, balanced by the gentler flavors of the cauliflower puree and parsley cream. My husband had the Buttermilk fried chicken with spicy dipping sauce and found it tenderly cooked with a light, almost tempura like crust. Service from Aaron was great as he exuded enthusiasm and kindness, all while hustling to serve 7 tables. As for the restaurant ambiance, this is where I think it could be elevated to the level of the food if there was better indirect lighting. The old brick and stone architecture is special and should be highlighted with warm spot lighting so the central chandeliers and bar pendants can be turned down. They were a bit glaring and made the large space feel more 'empty' rather than warm.

I've never had fried chicken so good. My wife had sea bass that was equally fabulous. The ambiance is amazing, the service was great, and the food was out of this world. Chef Garret Dakan was fabulous. Highly recommend, and will definitely be back.

We hosted our 60th birthdays and 30th anniversary with close friends and family at the Stone House. Staff was delightful and attentive to our guests, the food was wonderfully delicious!

Had our sons wedding and reception dinner at The Stone House on April 12th, and it was just amazing. The upper banquet room was just what we were looking for. It was both rustic and elegant. Wedding coordinator Dallas made sure our every need was met. She was extremely thorough and attentive, and made my son and daughter in law feel like it was truly their evening! The food service staff were wonderful and the food was absolutely amazing! Everyone just loved it. Thank you so much to all the staff at The Stone House for helping to make my sons wedding such a beautiful event!!

Really great tapas and drinks. They even showed us upstairs which was closed for the season. The atmosphere is very comfy in the winter season

Ideal space for an intimate gathering with colleagues. Lunch was delicious and service was great. Amazing atmosphere. Will be back again!

Loved the buttermilk chicken, my wife had the Steak and it was great also. Atmosphere and service was outstanding.

This place is hands down one of the greatest venues in Cali. Words can not express the service, the shows, and the staff, the live music and the amazing security they have. Great vibes all around.

We had a fantastic Saturday dinner at the Stone House. Our server, Delana went above and beyond for us- she went back and forth with the bartender, making sure our drinks were to our liking, she helped make our friend’s birthday special, and she was very knowledgeable of the menu as well as the local area, giving us many recommendations. The food was incredible- highlights were the pesto pizza and the lemon crème brûlée. This should be your go to for a fun dinner out in the Grass Valley area, I can’t recommend it enough! Thank you to Delana and crew for making our night out so special!

The food was exquisite and I think the best meal in town I would say fresh produce and all healthy like food and the service was very good they were out to get our order of food right away and we didn't wait to long for it to be done and brought to us so I'm giving them a five star cause I would that if your looking for a great service topnatch food and in a mellow environment then stone house is where you want to go they have two bars and restaurant food and pizza as well they also have dance floor,the place is perfect for public events or private events weddings ,and much more they also have a three bedroom apt .above the tavern that they rent out air b and b which is very nice all brand new appliances and just and over all comfy setting full size copper bathtub and standup shower separate from bathtub and the best part is it has a full kitchen as well if you wanting to cook they accommodate very well with a generous supply of dishes ,silver ware, and what nots ,that you need to cook a full size meal if needed but the to say that the food is good is an understatement because they cook every meal to order and the chef is great cook amd the presentation of the food when served was so professional amd very nicely put the choice of food they have is top of the line and I would recommend going there to amyone cause if you want real quality cooked food then stone house is where you should go trust me wheni say it's wonderful amd when your done they have some desserts that are incredible you will love it so dont for get to stop there and eat cause you wont be sorry it was a real treat to eat there and i will definitely be going there more often
