Incredible cemetery with a lot of history if you’re into that sort of thing. Tons of old gravestones a lot from the US Civil War. You can see were the soldiers from the US Hunley are buried. Need to do the self guided driving tour through the grounds and look at all the old grave markers surrounded by majestic oaks with hanging Spanish moss. We spent a few hours just driving around and looking and imagining the history from that era. Definitely very scenic and worth your time. No offense intended by the pictures with the rebel flags, they were on some of the gravestones of the confederate soldiers.

*Important safety/harassment info* This cemetery is a block away from the sheriff’s department and probation office. I think today (Wednesday, between 11 and noon) prisoners were working there. I am a boyish-built woman, so one of them called out pleading, “Lemme see some a*s, lemme see some t*ts”, clearly unsatisfied with my lack thereof. I’ve experienced this before in a detention center. There are way too many men working for the officers to maintain complete control over. I didn’t see any signs up saying “prisoners working”, but the officers may have packed them back up onto the white vans when I was leaving, because they all seemed to be gone. Especially if visitors’ presence has the capacity to disrupt their work, signs should definitely be put up while this is going on! Plus people deserve a warning when harassment is highly probable(which it probably would be with all female visitors). Needless to say, if you’re not up for the harassment right now, steer clear when you see large white vans in and around the cemetery. Come back another day!
Otherwise, one of the safest-feeling places to walk in Augusta, and tons of Pokémon Go resources :D

What a beautiful cemetery! Even visiting when it was freezing out, I was happy to walk around this unexpected gem in Augusta, GA. My fiance and I came initially just to visit the vault of Wyllys, who was a notorious, superstitious gambler. However, we enjoyed the huge magnolias, the deep-rooted history, and the solemn scenery for a lot longer than I expected that we would. If you enjoy historic places or cemeteries, this is definitely one I would suggest. As someone else's review said: this place has been here a LONG, long time!

When I was 6 years old in 1962 I used to live across the street from May Park. I would walk up and down the big wall of Magnolia Cemetery wondering what was on the other side of the wall. Childhood memories.

One of the most beautiful and under appreciated pieces of history in our city. Just beautiful to walk through and admire the craftsmanship of the headstones and elaborate mausoleums and memorials. If you’ve never been, make a point to go.

This is a beautiful time capsule space to visit. Obelisks are all around on these grounds. It's a great place to roam for ghost Pokémon, too.

This was an unexpected find for us in the Augusta area. While the cemetery wasn't well maintained, it was full of history and amazing gravesites.
