I loved Companion Animal Hospital; when my kitty Cashew was sick with FIC it was the most stressful week of my life. I'm forever grateful to the staff here for continuing to squeeze him in for emergency appointments and doing everything they can to keep him comfortable and help him recover. If you're going to trust anyone with the care of your pet, trust this clinic.

Dr. Kelly and his staff provide compassionate care and treat our pup like family. Everyone knows Whisky’s name and stops to say hello. We have been clients for almost a decade and appreciate the honest assessments, consultations with specialists, and staff follow up calls. We have found our forever vet clinic.

Finding yourself with a sick pet in a town where you just moved is one of the most stressful experiences I've had as a pet owner. An internet search led us to Companion Animal Hospital, and I can't say enough about how grateful I am that we ended up here.

Dr. Chris is a kind, caring, thorough vet who is knowledgeable and provides state-of-the art veterinary care. The entire staff is professional and welcoming. We relocated to this area temporarily, and one of the hardest parts of moving was having to leave this veterinary practice behind. Dr. Chris and his staff set the bar so high I doubt I'll ever find another practice that compares. Highly recommend!

I highly recommend Companion Animal Hospital. Dr. Chris has been phenomenal to work with. He goes above and beyond from anywhere I’ve experienced in the past. I have an anxious male German Shepherd and the whole staff made it so much easier when bringing him in for a surgery and multiple follow-up visits. They have great communication and great customer service. Thank you Chris, and staff. I truly appreciate everything you do.

I have nothing but great things to say about Companion Animal Hospital. Dr Jennifer Kelley goes above and beyond when it comes to explaining a diagnosis/procedure/path of action. Her compassion is readily apparent and the assistants and front desk personnel have always been kind, helpful and patient.

I love the team at Companion Animal Hospital of Wakefield! They treat my dog as if she were their own. The entire team is friendly, professional and compassionate. Recently I took my dog (Harley) in for an emergency and they put me completely at ease as they made BOTH of us comfortable. I highly recommend this team!

I recently moved to Raleigh and had to find a new vet for my 3 year old pup. He is a reactive and anxious dog and used to do well at the vet but now that he has to go to a new one he was stressed. The first visit we were not able to get his exam done but the vets never made me feel bad and tried to help Twoey. We rescheduled and added in some new anxiety meds to help. Our second visit started rocky for him (he was still stressed) but we eventually were able to get all his necessary stuff done. I am so thankful for all the effort that Dr Albrecht and the rest of the staff put in (I wish I had gotten the second person's name so I could shout them out too). They worked so hard to help Twoey feel less stressed and they made me feel comfortable as well. I would highly recommend Companion Animal Hospital and Dr Albrecht and I am so glad I found them. They encouraged me and Twoey the whole time and never gave up on him.

Dr. Jennifer at Companion was recommended to me by a friend when I brought home my Siberian husky puppy. She has been wonderful with her and also very patient with me, providing me with great advice and resources to get through the puppy years. They have not only become my vet of choice, but I also now use their boarding and daycare services. The staff at Companion has been amazing with her and I would recommend them to any pet owner.

I highly recommend Companion! They truly care about our cats as if they were their own. Their team is always friendly and their communication is clear; telling you what course of action you can take and what would get the best results. The owners do a great job of balancing care for their patients and their own staff.

When I moved to this area I left behind my veterinary practice of 45 years. My friend recommended Companion Animal Hospital. I could not be more pleased with the care the entire staff of this practice provides. They helped me through my aging pet who was sick at the time and now I’m bringing my new puppy in for her first visit. Thank you Companion Animal Hospital for all you do for all of us and the pets we love so much.

I am assuming, since you are reading this, you would like to know if this particular vet will take the greatest care of your beloved furry family member; well, let me describe my family’s experience:

We had a dog (family member) for 17 years, and as you likely know, if you’ve had the pleasure of sharing company with an animal for a period of time, they can develop health issues, especially later in their life. Our dog, Shadow, had the good fortune to live an incredibly long and surprisingly functional life until the day he passed away; and, I think I speak for my family when I say this, that a great amount of that fact is due to our veterinarian at this particular hospital. At the ripe age of 14, Shadow developed life threatening pancreatitis, and we weren’t sure if he was going to make it. We brought him in to Companion Animal Hospital and he had to stay for several days – over Christmas. Granted, we had a bit of a blue Christmas considering an integral part of our family was in the hospital, alone. The reality was, however, that Shad wasn’t alone, because Dr. Metz came in over his Christmas break to specifically check on Shadow. We knew we had a good vet from 14 years of quality work, but this was a step beyond that not only gave our family comfort, but I’m sure helped Shadow in his eventual recovery back to strength.

As Shadow grew older, his ability to leave the house became heavily limited and dwindled to me carrying him to and from the car to our appointments, until the day came that Shadow’s stubbornness forced us to not be able to bring him in as regularly as we would have liked. Still, this establishment worked with us as much as possible, and, specifically, Dr. Metz and his assistant did everything they could to make it easier on us, and more importantly, on Shadow. Recently, Shadow’s final day came sooner than you would have ever liked (even with 17 years behind us), and Dr. Metz came to our home twice in the same day, on his off day (again), and helped us through the difficult transition of Shadow’s eventual passing.

There are plenty of other, smaller moments that fill the gaps between these two or three entrenched memories, and all of them are equally telling of the quality care you and your beloved animals will receive here. They are all kind, respectful, and above all, they shoulder your emotions and express them in actions that you wish you could enact for your beloved animal to make them feel better as quickly and as resolutely as possible.

I don’t know how they compare to other vets, because the comparison doesn’t matter; the care here is deeply touching and has an element of family that can be rarely recreated. I am telling you, as a person who’s emotions dictated his expectation of care for his puppy, I was never once even remotely disappointed, nor was my family. At this point it goes without saying, but Dr. Metz, and the rest of the Companion crew, come highly recommended above all.

Thank you.

The first thing that made me really love this clinic is that no one has ever tried to scruff my cats. They use low stress, fear free techniques and work with my cats to make them comfortable. No scruffing or forcing them into uncomfortable positions. The technicians are gentle, kind and patient with them. I've seen all 3 doctors and they are knowledgeable, welcoming/personable, empathetic and great about communication. I've never felt rushed, they've taken time to answer all my questions/concerns, have done the full exams & any possible procedures in the room with me present, and have thoroughly explained treatment options and were understanding about any financial constraints. Follow up communication with all staff members has also been great. Front staff is always so warm and helpful, whether in person, phone or email. It's obvious this clinic is filled with compassionate & caring folks who truly want what's best for pets AND their people.

Dr. Jennifer Kelly and staff are absolutely amazing! When I got my dog from a local (horrible) rescue she had a bad case of pneumonia (plus ear infections, hookworms, and an unexpected pregnancy). Dr. Kelly and team were friendly, professional, attentive, and most importantly caring. They helped nurse my baby back to health through multiple visits and a hospitalization. They’ve gone above and beyond to take care of me and my dog over the last few months, keeping clear communication every step of the way. I can’t say enough great things about Companion Animal Hospital! I recommend them to anyone looking for a trustworthy vet that treats you like family. Every single person there is fantastic from Linda who’s always quick to answer the phone with a pleasant greeting, to any of the techs who are more than happy to listen to all my questions and ensure I get answers, to Dr. Kelly, herself, who has personally called me to check on me and my dog between visits during difficult times. These people are amazing!! Best vet, hands down. Wish I could give more than 5 stars!

I wouldn't take my working dogs anywhere else. The Drs here are amazing, patient and caring. The staff has spent extra time to care for my middle dog that is super fearful of a trip to the vet. He used to be so stressed out going to the vet he would fight struggle and bite. Since the very first visit he has been way more at ease. He has never bit anyone at this office and he is now walking in front of me to go see the vet! He even gets on the scale now. The Staff here are respectful and understanding. They go the extra mile to make sure all my dogs are getting what they need. I can't say enough good things about the Staff at Companion Animal Hospital of Wakefield!

We love Companion Animal Hospital of Wakefield! The veterinarians are all top-notch and the hospital staff is excellent. More importantly, they are compassionate caregivers to their patients. They have gone above and beyond for our pets and our rescues time after time. Two of our cat family members wouldn't even be alive today if not for the dedication of the Companion team. It's hard to even find the right words to express how much these folks mean to us and to our furry family members. Thank you Companion Animal Hospital for taking such great care of our pets, our rescues and us!

We can't say enough good things about this practice. Dr. Chris and his staff have been absolutely wonderful caring for our pup. They are the perfect combination of professional, communicative, responsive and compassionate, keeping us informed every step of the way in managing our dog's cancer - with options, test results, treatment plan suggestions, answers to all our questions and everything else we need to know communicated to us quickly and completely. We feel so relieved and reassured every time we speak with Dr. Chris about our boy's situation, and appreciate his professionalism and obvious compassion. The concern for the animals in their care at this practice is readily apparent and our Frylie responds to their gentle handling joyfully. They treat their clients like family. We have complete confidence in the doctors and staff here, and highly recommend them.

We can’t say enough great things about the day camp and boarding of Companion Animal Hospital at Wakefield. If anyone would have seen our girl going in on her first day, and if you would see her today, you would not believe, our little rescue Maggie, is the same pup. She now can’t get there fast enough. She absolutely loves it. The attention the staff has given to our baby has been unparalleled. They will never know how much they are appreciated. If you are contemplating, don’t hesitate leaving your precious family member here.

We have been working with Companion Animal Hospital of Wakefield (CAHOW) since they opened in 2001.  The things that stand out about CAHOW is their compassionate, knowledgeable team, and friendly support.

We have had our 4 year old rescue lab mix, Sophie, in to see both Dr. Chris and Dr. Jennifer for routine check ups, day camp, and boarding. Recently we had her in for coughing spells and to check on a discovered lump along her spine. Dr. Jennifer did a great job of diagnosing what turned out to be a benign cyst on her back. In addition, Dr. Jennifer patiently and thoroughly explained this rare, recurring form of kennel cough that has been exceptionally difficult this year. We have had dogs through the years that experienced kennel cough - but nothing like this strain! Dr. Jennifer diagnosed a round of antibiotics, told us what to expect, acknowledged the emotional difficulty of watching our pets go through this, and asked us to keep her posted. The kennel cough improved for a couple of weeks and then returned as Dr. Jennifer had cautioned. A second round of antibiotics cured Sophie. We have had dogs for over forty years and have loved them dearly. We are very particular in where we take our pets for care and boarding. As such, we have complete confidence in Dr. Jennifer and Dr. Chris, highly recommend them, as well as their entire team at Companion Animal Hospital.
