I love to eat and The Pit gives you good portions. Their baby back ribs were everything and more!! And I got some of their chopped pork which I hear is better than Bill's in Wilson. I will say that the brisket was just okay, but once you smothered it in their house made barbecue sauce it took that brisket up to a whole other level. The meatloaf on the other hand was something to be reckoned with. I need to go back for the meatloaf and thr ribs! The sides were delicious as well. I loved the collards and the Mac and Cheese disappeared from my plate within the first few minutes. I miss it already. Will certainly have to make a trip back soon.

Let’s get straight to The Pit with this review. I ordered the skillet cornbread as my starter and I was disappointed the cornbread was very dry, hard and the texture was gritty and crumbly. Honestly I believe it was over cooked. I took one small bit and sent it back. Now on to the Entree, I ordered to BBQ chicken with Collard Greens, Mac & Cheese with the Sweet Potato casserole. The BBQ chicken was very juicy, Smokey and delicious, the house sauce however had a strong vinegar flavor that over powerful the sweet taste. Next up is the side dishes, the collard greens was very good and tasty. The Mac & Cheese is cheesy but lack flavor completely. The Sweet Potato casserole was a winner, not overly sweet which like and it was so creamy with small pieces of pecans for an added crunch, which was yummy. This place is a Must Try!

We came in for a late lunch and not crowded at all.
We had the fried catfish sandwich with potato salad and a bbq sandwich with fried okra.
The catfish must have been great because my wife finished it before I could eat half my sandwich! The fried okra was plentiful and perfectly fried and hot when served.
The biscuits and hush puppies were not expected but dang… so good.
Very pleased we stopped in from out of town, highly recommend a visit!

I went there wanting authentic Carolina BBQ. This place did not disappoint. The pulled pork sandwich was tender just add the sauce.tbe sauces. The sweet sauce added lots of flavor. The Carolina sauce was like a flavor explosion in my mouth. The Carolina sauce has a strong vinegar flavor. It compliment the meat nice let. The hush puppies and cream corn was great. The service was super friendly and knowledgeable. Her name is Recicie

My family and I had a great dining experience at The Pit. Located in the warehouse district of Raleigh, this restaurant never disappoints. The majority of the menu options are barbecue. We had both the pulled pork and beef brisket. There are about a dozen different sides to choose from. We appreciated the complimentary biscuits and hush puppies Making reservations helps for easy seating in either a booth or table. The service is good and fast. The staff works as a team to meet your needs. Parking can be an issue as there are very few free on the street spots. There is adequate parking in several lots and street spots but you must pay with an app.

Found it on Google maps...not too far from Red Hat. Nice feeling when you walk in. Clean and neat. A lot of seating. The bar is right next to the large glass window. Sat at the bar(they did ask if we had reservations and seemed to hesitate, only 2 of us. Seemed weird because there were lots of open seats.

Anyway, quickly ordered. Bar Seemed to have a large variety of beer. My son and I both ordered a burger. I even got medium rare. Doesn't usually happen. Fries were also good.

Great spot for a quick bite and a drink.

Portions were big, food was delicious and the service was top notch. We enjoyed our meal, including sweet tea and the corn bread skillet appetizer. The brisket was so tender and the mashed potatoes were great!

We are visiting from San Diego and we always take time in our travels to look for authentic cuisine. We were told of the Pit BBQ from the AC Marriott desk. Upon Arriving we were seated promptly, warmly, and then our food adventure began. ELIJAH was incredible. His serving skills were something we rarely see in San Diego. I felt like we had entered the fine dining of BBQ. At the end he even offered to let us view the pork shoulders cooking on their huge in-house hickory smoker. Elijah explained the history of NC BBQ and how all other BBQ stemmed from the base sauce of apple cider vinegar. The portions were perfect, and he even brought out some samplers of the slaw and brussel sprouts. I have had texan, and oklahoma BBQ but this experience trumped what I had imagined for BBQ. I highly recommend you check this place out.

The wings were amazing. Coleslaw was great. Food was cooked constant from plate to plate.

Mac and cheese was just ok as were the hush puppies.

Fairly solid experience.

Absolutely lovely food and drink! The brisket was some of the best I've ever had, and my server, Eli, was amazing. There were nice spacious booths for families or larger groups. The atmosphere was comforting and scaled well. The only minor quibble was that the bottles the sauce came in at the table were super leaky (I tested a couple tables, and found them to be the same). Bad design, I reckon.

What's better? North Carolina, KC, or Texas BBQ? I've traveled to them all. I've had them all. Before tonight, KC was the best I'd ever had. Before tonight, I thought I knew what good ribs and brisket tasted like. Before tonight... *sigh* I was content. I've had the best bbq I've ever eaten now. I have to go home knowing I live nowhere near the best bbq I've ever had... but if you're reading this, you have the opportunity. The opportunity to have brisket that melts in your mouth. To have ribs that ACTUALLY fall off the bone. Amazing bbq is close. If you live around here, you know. If you don't live around here, take this challenge. Or play it safe. This place has set a new bar for my expectations from bbq. Nothing will be the same.

Great Customer service. Friendly servers and prompt service. Food was delicious and plenty for the price. We had to pay for parking across the street from restaurant.

Talk about service! Top notch - home town people. The food recommendations were spot on. The cream corn was like my grams and filled my heart up when there was no more room in my belly. Biscuits and hushpuppies OMG!!!! Fried green tomatoes Holy cow!

It's been awhile since me and my family has been to this barbecue place. I ordered the combo. I had brisket, turkey barbecue with baked beans and brussels sprouts. The brisket was the best think on the plate...so nice and tender! The turkey barbecue was okay, the baked beans need a little sprucing up. I added barbecue sauce and it was better. The brussels sprouts were cooked perfectly and had pieces of bacon in it.

We really enjoyed The Pit. The food, service and atmosphere were top notch. We both got the Carolina rib platter. The ribs were as juicy and flavorful as I have had. The big surprise was how good the green beans were. Best ever. The hush puppies are served with honey butter and I probably had more than I should. 😄 Highly recommended!

Everything was phenomenal! Our server, Ty, was super informative and friendly, and his suggestion of the cased-in-house sausage was genius. The bbq brisket was melt-in-your-mouth, and the sauce for the Brisket meatloaf was the perfect ratio of tangy & sweet. Also worth mentioning, the mac & cheese was excellent. Next time we're in town, we hope to try more menu items. Ya just can't go wrong here!!

Food was delicious! Green beans were well seasoned, boneless fried chicken breasts were moist and flavorful, deviled eggs with relish was a great starter. Had banana pudding for dessert, amazing! Our server was attentive and gave great customer service!

Southern Hospitality at its finest! Great food, amazing atmosphere, and personalized touches from the manager and staff to make you feel right at home. The guided tour was lovely, and everyone was super friendly. The meat melts in the best way, and the sides all hit perfectly. The hushpuppies and biscuits were a true delight. Best biscuits I've had in a long, long time. Call ahead because it gets busy! Will definitely be making a trip for The Pit again this summer.

Showed up without a reservation on a Monday and there were no issues finding us a table. The staff was attentive and the food was delicious. I ordered the Big Boy Burger and it was massive. I felt like I should've won a T-shirt and have my photo posted on their wall after I finished it. Definitely will visit again whenever I'm back in Raleigh.

I loved! Long time ago I saw a episode of man vs food about this place. As I am visiting the region I couldn’t help my self and had to go there. I loved the whole experience. Super friendly staff, helped me with the menu and suggestions. I came for the chopped pork but loved more the brisket and Carolina Style ribs. The biscuit is amazing. I hope I can come back one day to try more, such as the fried chicken.
