Main Kwong | Chinese Restaurant

First time ordering here tonight. This is the best Chinese food around. Def going to be our go to from now on. Very friendly staff, great food, decent prices! Everything we ordered was amazing. I recommend the crab rangoon!

I ordered the chicken and the mixed vegetables over the phone. I was told that it would take about 15 minutes. When I showed up after 15 minutes, the order was ready. The food is hot. The dish is delicious, the level of salt and sweetness is about right. The service is friendly and prompt. The portion is generous.

When I travel on the road I usually like to order chicken with mixed vegetables. This place would rank near the top in terms of taste, service and the atmosphere in the restaurant.

Noddles were amazing, rice was good, chicken was fine, wontons were not good and the wonton soup was the best part. The restaurant itself is a bit terrifying but this is mainly a takeout place I'm assuming. I think this will be regular takeout for me (:

I WORKED AT THE CAPITOL FOR 4 YEARS 2017 TO 2021. DURING ALL THE TIMES ME AND THE GUYS WANTED THE BEST CHINESE FOOD TAKEOUT FOR OUR LUNCH BREAKS WE'D MAKE A RUN TO MAIN KWONG. I EVEN HAD MY OWN SPECIAL MADE TO ORDER AS SOON AS I WALKED IN THE DOOR. EXTRA SPICY CHICKEN LO MEIN, ADD BROCCOLI AND THEIR CRISPY CRUNCH BAGS WITH A PEPSI. I have always LOVED Main Kwong. Today, I ordered the Shrimp in Garlic Sauce lunch special. As always, the portions were good and the price was reasonable. Lunch and dinner are always very good.

Their food is absolutely delicious-get the crispy chicken! But the people who work their aren't very friendly, and the dining room and bathroom are filthy.

Really great food. We stopped here on a road trip. If I lived close by this would be my go to chinese take out joint.

I've been eating here for 20 years. Now they have a large dining area too. 10/10 as far as the Crispy Chicken goes.

I absolutely love Main Kwong!! My hubby gets a pint of pork fried rice and I love the crab Rangoon ❤❤❤

The best Chinese food in Charleston!! Great variety and prices!

For as long as I can remember, Main Kwong has been a Charleston landmark. But now, apparently, they have become at least a partial victim of covid & the economy. The very Spartan dine-in part of the restaurant has been closed completely. The "restaurant" is now à carryout place only. You can either phone in your order for delivery or self pickup... or you can walk in, place your order at the counter, & then wait on a bench while your food is prepared. Trust me, it is worth the wait because this is where you can still get the best Chinese food in town.

Waiting for your food in this small, bare-bones eatery is quite an experience just in itself. While the staff are busily working at a cookstove with giant woks steaming away, they are constantly yelling back & forth in some form of Chinese dialect. Between the sounds, the smells, the atmosphere... it doesn't get much more authentic than this. During colder winter weather, the front windows are always steamed up from the cooking heat, & waiting inside is bearable... almost comforting even. During warm summer weather, that same heat is practically unbearable & waiting in an air-conditioned car is the best choice.

Hopefully, Main Kwong will be a Charleston mainstay for many, many more years because, imo it's not only about the truly delicious food they make but the entire (non-dining) experience.

Best Chinese in town. I can order 100.00 worth of food it's always correct however you go to fast food and order 3 items and it's always wrong. Miss seeing Carina she always had a big smile and knew her regular customers by name. Highly recommend.

Picked up order, quick easy parking right out front, food hot a full container as well. Had to ask for utensils and napkins is all. Fair price.

Every time I order; the flavors and taste are always fresh, yummy, and consistent. Very very good 5 stars all the way.

Amazing cuisine! Have been going here for at least 17+ yrs. Great service, fantastic staff. I am adding a gripe to this review. The parking stinks just a few spaces on side of building and street front unless u park around the back which is kinda sketchy. Also, there are always people that approach you for money. Normally I will share with others but they are aggressive and get in your personal space. Very uncomfortable for a woman alone. So, caution ⚠ lock ur doors and be aware of surroundings.

We love there food!! There shrimp and lobster platter is really good. The egg rolls are so good. I always get the hot and sour soup and it's just the right amount of spicy!! Sometimes it takes awhile for delivery but it's worth it and even though it takes awhile, it's still hot. They are just busy, that's why. Definitely a Friday night go to!!

Best Chinese food in town. Staff is always helpful. They carry my bag out to the car for me. No MSG. I love the pepper steak, shrimp fried rice and chicken wings. Crab Rangoon, Egg drop soup. The chicken on a stick is good. The egg rolls are good. Heck, everything we've had here is excellent. And clean. Very clean dining room and clean restrooms. Cashier is always nice.
