Hither Woods Preserve

Many trails start at the Montauk Recycling Center. Sweeping views of Peconic Bay and Long Island Sound. Peace, solitude and the wonders of nature will embrace you and remind you why we all love Montauk!

Great place for mountain biking. Especially for a fatbike, due to the many sandy areas. Trails are two-way, so be alert, and be respectful to hikers. Bring a map. There are some surprise historic sites along the way.

The land is well managed by the forest service. Litter is minimal. Trails are maintained properly and at one of the preserve entrances (by the recycling/sanitation entrance) theres an excellently detailed and informative map at the trailhead. For some high vantage points with views of both the ocean and bay head off trail to the southwestern rim of the park by the RR tracks. On the other end of the park, Todds valley and its surrounding hills of rhododendron makes one feel as if they are in the southern Appalachians. Just be hyper aware of ticks everywhere in the park.
