We parked in the lot Google Maps took us to.... The difficult trail to the multiple stairs that lead to the most incredible views of trees, Marquette City, Lake Superior, Presque Isle, Hogback Mountain, and everything else! Depending on your entry and physical fitness depends on how long it'll take you to get to the top. Water, bug spray, water, laced shoes with traction, water sunglasses and your camera! We brought two of our dogs in dog packs with water for them and they both got heat exhaustion not even walking. Be mindful of your pets and the weather. It was in the 90's all weekend and we were largely in the shade of the woods. Returning to the car, gratefully had ice in a cooler to doust the dogs and give ice water. They passed out in the car air conditioning and had to stay in the hotel room the rest of the night. All ages make the climb literally all ages. Some questionable parents allowed their young boys to walk their bikes up the many flights of stairs to the very top and ride them back down. There are cliffs, and advanced rough terrain. Call me old fashioned but I wanted to smack them upside the head.
Anyway, you don't wanna miss Sugarloaf!

Just know there are TWO parking lots! One is for an easier trail, and one is harder....they do meet up :) just make sure you bring water. We saw people of all ages and skill levels... you can kinda choose your level of difficulty, just know there are quite a few stairs.

There are two parking lots, and two trail. Use the one with gravel for the easy trail (the first one from Markete). Both trails are ok, the easy one has stairs. Amazing view of Lake Superior.

The hike up Sugarloaf Mountain was totally awesome!!! A hike I won't soon forget! I went up the difficult side, which was a bit of a challenge, and came down the easy side so I could know the difference between the two...

Difficult path is only a short 15 minute hike, pretty steep and definitely helps to have good boots but nothing too extreme. For such a short hike the view is unparalleled and something I would recommend to anyone looking for a great view of superior and the area surrounding Sugarloaf.

Definitely worth the hike to the top! Views are incredible and stairs make it possible for most people.

I am not in shape, have awful joints, and this was a tough hike for me! But I did it! Trail is very natural, but stairs are well maintained. Views at the top of the trail and stairs were amazing. Got weak knees? Skip this and drive somewhere where you aren't climbing 1,000 ft in elevation.

If you can climb stairs this is a pretty easy walk and the view is worth it.

Fun little hike and very easy access through the Sugarloaf trailhead. There are stairs so it's easy to navigate at any skill level or preparedness. Watch your step as I did notice a fair bit of glass.

Alternatively you can access the submit through shoreline trail / wetmore landing which will give you a more immerse and difficult experience of the hike. It will also be sparsely populated where the Sugarloaf trailhead is very popular.

This lot seems pretty new (as of July '22). Plenty of space for a few dozen passenger vehicles and a few RVs/trailers, etc. The trailhead here makes the hike a little shorter on the easier of the two trails, compared to if you park at the lot 0.2 miles farther to the north. If you're wanting to ascend via the more strenuous trail, you're better off parking at the other lot.

Park lot is great. Lol. Love going here for the view. It isn't a hard climb as most of it has a staircase if you wish to use it. For more "experienced" hikers there are other offshoots that are harder. Still only takes roughly 15ish minutes at a typical walking speed.

Parked here while we went on hiking on the mountain. I love hiking here because there is so much to see. Trails are well marked. Some trails are more challenging than others. Great spot to spend a few hours in nature.

Rv parking was designed by someone who doesn't own a travel trailer, but there is space to park a large rig, sort of. The hike was up hill, not too long and the view was excellent from the top.
