I had to put my step Dad in there last year when he couldn't walk anymore. He is happy there which I didn't think he would be. It is always clean, the floors are spotless and never any urine smell like other places I've been. Everyone seems to care Ltcaralways seem s

My father-in-law spent about the last four years of his life here. For about the last 10 years prior, he had been in and out of rehabilitation centers and had spent time at two other assisted living/nursing homes before this one. Of all the places he stayed, he told me he liked being at River Bluff and never complained to me about his stay here. To put this in perspective, this was a man who could be quite difficult at times and often complained about everything. For those of you who have older parents, I mean this in the nicest way possible.

I remember him coming to River Bluff from the previous nursing home he hated being at. I visited him after his first few days at River Bluff, and I was expecting to hear numerous complaints from him. Instead, he said he was much happier here, from the food being so much better to the staff being friendlier, more attentive, and much more activities to do.

Over my many visits with him, I came to agree with him that River Bluff was a good place to be. I would often visit him during his lunch, and the food always looked good and appetizing. My father-in-law spent many days sitting in the dining or rec rooms, and this is where we had most of our visits. The staff working in these areas or just passing through would often call out to him and say hello or stop and have a small conversation with him. This was much different than what I'd seen at the other places he stayed at. It seemed to be much more relaxed and had a feeling that he mattered to the staff. They made it feel like the closest thing to being home for him.

I would often ask my father-in-law what activities he did through the week, and he always had a list of things he did. From bingo, which he loved doing, to Church/Bible Study, to excursions to Pizza Ranch and stores, he always had his day planned out. River Bluff seems to always have something going on for the residents.

To be fair, there was one time that I was not happy. By this time, my father-in-law was not doing well and was having a hard time getting from his bed to his wheel chair so he could go down to the dining room. He put on his call light. After waiting for approximately 15 minutes for someone to respond, I stood in the hallway hoping to see to catch someone to help. It quickly became obvious that there was only one CNA currently working on the wing, and the CNA was going non-stop from room to room trying to take care of everyone. After about 45 minutes, the CNA did finally make it to his room, but by this time, I realized the CNA was doing the best they could with the amount of patients they had. I asked my father-in-law if was normal, and he said no but this does happen when they are short staffed. I don't blame this so much on management, but more on funding/budget constraints. They only have so much money to work with.

At the end of his life, the staff, especially his CNA and Nurse, were outstanding, attentive, and supportive.

I'm sure that there are others who may have different opinions of River Bluff, but from what I saw, they have a great group of employees who often go unrecognized by families for their hard work. Thank you!

My grandmother was well cared for on the Eagle wing. The nurses showed great care (Candi, Glenda, Mary Zana were awesome!!) We are eternally grateful for the compassionate care she received.
