I was immediately welcomed by Rick. He was brimming with knowledge and passion for the Rock House. What really prompted me to write a review was the kindness he showed when I was gone far too long wandering through the road/trail that is at the head of the carriage house. He stayed several hours after to make sure I made it back. I returned to the sound of my name being called and law enforcement checking for me. I can’t thank him enough for being concerned and looking out for me; especially considering what I later learned has taken place in the woods in that area. So thank you again to Rick and the Rock House. I will never forget his kindness and I am sorry for the ruckus I caused!

We were created by Rick. He is a very knowledgeable historian. He gave a full detail on the history of the Rock House and answered all our questions (which were many). Rick also gave us directions to another water fall that was close, Lost Creek. This historical gem is worth stopping to check out.

Does not look like much from the outside, but it's loaded with history. I definitely learned a few new things. Thanks to the man taking care of the site, he's a wealth of information.

This can be somewhat easy to miss if you're not paying attention to the road signs. There is a guided tour for the house. The man there was extremely knowledgeable and helpful while I visited there. There is no cost to have the tour.

They do ask for donations to help for the cost of their liability insurance and electricity, however they do not put any pressure on you whether or not you donate.

Unfortunately I did not have much cash on me but I did donate. I think it best if everyone donated $5 or $10 though. It's a small part of Americana history that would be an absolute shame to lose.

If you're traveling through, don't be afraid to stop by. It'll be worth it

The history and preservation of details are amazing at the Rock House. Rick, the site historian, was very helpful, informed, and friendly on the Rock House and the State. We will continue to visit, finding more information and a deep history of this amazing part of TN.

Also, Rick, thank you for the directions to some hidden gems here in TN. We enjoyed!!

Please also consider dropping them a few bills in the jar as it's supported locally.

Stopped here to see what it was about and glad we did. The story of it and the area was amazing and the overseer of the place was very knowledgeable. If you have time, I would highly recommend a pause in your day to sit a spell and listen to the stories. Ask about any of the items in the room, and you will hear a story behind the article.

This is a really interesting place. It is a historic toll booth on the early Bristol to Memphis road. The tour guide is extremely knowledgeable and very excited about the site. There is a great history lesson in every corner of the building as well as the surrounding grounds which are very well maintained. There are hiking trails and beautiful scenery all around.

The Sparta Rock House State Historic Site is a stone building near Sparta, Tennessee, United States, that once served as a rest stop and tollhouse. Built in the late 1830s, the Rock House catered to traffic along an important wagon road between Knoxville and Nashville, offering badly needed lodging and supplies to travellers who had just crossed the rugged Cumberland Plateau. The Rock House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 for its architecture and its historical role as an important rest stop. The Rock House was probably built by either Samuel Denton or brothers Barlow and Madison Fiske, and initially operated by the latter two. Early guests at the Rock House included presidents Andrew Jackson and James K. Polk, and Governor Sam Houston. It was home to a tollhouse and supply store until at least the 1850s, and was used as a school at various times between 1880 and 1921. Very cool local history spot and the locals have a great deal of information. I recommend stopping by and checking it out. Consider liking my review and pictures and follow along on all my adventures. Get Your Hike On!

Found this passing by it. Much of the land around it is still privately owned due to legal issues. The owners can't sell of donate it for several more years. The house has a lot of history dealing with the local area and answered several question I had about certain names of places near it.
