Two doors and two sets of stairs at the front of the building provide a little confusion. There was a sign board nearer one and it said 'Welcome' above the right hand door so....correct choice.
Assuming you can find parking and choose the right door, the smells will get your mouth watering.
Since they're in a converted house, walk past the plastic-tablecloth-covered folding tables to the counter to order. I went with the Bosnian Burger today - with the hopes of returning to try nearly everything else.
While I awaited my food I listened to the other tables. Based on the various accents, it appears this place is popular due to it's authenticity and quality.
When my order arrived, I was a bit surprised. It was the size of a baby's head! Never seen a burger so big it requires cutting, not even at home. The meat was nicely seasoned, a bit harder to bite thru but very nice once I added a slew of the purple onion. The homemade bread/bun is reminiscent of foccacia and I'd have gladly eaten several with just some butter or a garlic spread. Well worth the $15.
They seem to do a solid carry-out business, too. Might try that some evening 🤔.

I ordered the doner kebab and house seasoned fries. I got a ton of ketchup packets with the fries but didn't need any of them because the fries were that good. The doner itself is just like I remember eating in Germany. The bread is soft, the meat was well seasoned and the sauce was delicious. I'll have to order it with extra veggies next time because I like cucumbers and tomatoes on that kind of sandwich.

I ordered the Doner Sandwich. So so delicious. The bread was soft and tasted freshly baked. The toppings were fresh and plentiful. The meat was perfect, hot and freshly sliced. It was huge! Yet I was still sad when it was over, it was so good. I would eat this everyday!

I tasked my co-worker with finding somewhere to get lunch before we went to the airport and he found this spot. He knocked it out of the park. The doner kebab was unreal. One of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. Every bite was perfect. I had the wings too and they were amazing as well. Can’t wait to come back to Detroit to have another!

The food is excellent. However, you must be willing to wait. On our visit, we waited 30 minutes to place our order then another 30 for the food to arrive. That said, we did go during lunch on a Friday, so maybe they weren’t prepared to be that busy. I imagine going during “off times” would be better.

We tried loaded beef/lamb doner kebab, chicken doner wrap and fried mushrooms. All of them were tasty. Good food and friendly staff, Highly recommended!

The team was welcoming, and very helpful since this was our first time dining at the Balkan House.. We asked to be served what they are well known for, which is the Doner Kebab and Falafel.

We enjoyed the cuisine so much that we ordered take out two days later to share with my family members. Like us, they were extremely pleased! Thank you!

I am not kidding when I say, this is the greatest sandwich in existance. The Doner Kebab. A beef and lamb kebab in this bread that only be described as the perfect vessal for happiness. Topped with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and a tzatziki-like sauce with hungarian paprika with pickled purple cabbage. All I can say is that my taste buds were taken on an expedition and I can't wait to do this again. And if you are wondering how to eat it, you just pull the bread down and it is remarkably easy to eat. A 10 out 10 is an understatement for this. 5 stars is not enough.

Delicious food! The bread is made in-house and it is fantastic. I had a Doner bowl. It was overfilled with food. I could only eat half of it! The Turkish coffee hit the spot!

Excellent food and service in a cozy space. The Doner Sandwich on the traditional round bread is amazing along with the loaded fries! I regularly eat or order from here and am impressed every single time. Highly recommend!

Got the doner kebab and it was excellent!! I'll have to come back and try the cevapi and burek. They are dishing out some of my favorite foods here! Check it out if you're nearby.

One of the most authentic food I've ever had in Hamtramck! Started with authentic Turkish coffee and that slider was the best! Highly recommend

My bf and I have lived in Germany before and have talked about how much we miss eating some quality kabobs. Well this place was HEAVENLY!!! Kabobs that taste just like the ones we have had in Germany. I’'s a small and intimate restaurant that is definitely one of my favorite places when I visit Detroit. The service was fast and the quality of food hit the spot. I ordered the doner basket which is fries with doner meat on top. The tzatziki sauce was homemade and a hit!!! The workers there were friendly and checked up on us often to make sure that we had everything that we needed. The restaurant wasn’t paced even if there were only like 6 tables in there. There were customers coming in and out ordering to go. I am taking my daughter with me in a couple of weeks back to Detroit and I will be taking her to try this place. If you have a chance do visit this place, do it…you won’t regret it.

Really good Döner and the food in general is on point. The prices are great as well

pricier than i expected but i understand everything’s going up these days. still worth it… this döner is a spiritual experience. the bread they use and the spices are perfect. i also dropped it upside down like a clumsy duck and it miraculously survived 99% intact. the hand of some higher power is upon this blessed sandwich and i refuse to believe otherwise. have a look

The Dönor kebab was fantastic and the meat small meat platter had so much food!

Amra was our server and was so pleasant, explaining different foods, chatting with us. What an awesome place!
