The Whitney

We celebrated our anniversary and this was a perfect spot for this occasion. I lived on campus in Wayne State and this was a place I wanted to visit at some point and finally can check that off. The architecture and the ambiance is just amazing. The food was definitely outstanding and we enjoyed our evening at the Whitney.

This was our first time there and most definitely will not be the last. Our host Dalilah was simply wonderful and our waiter Darius was amazing. We enjoyed the four course meal selections and took home dessert. I hate that we didn't get a tour due to time but I for sure remember next time.

Had a lovely tea at the historical Whitney. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The tea itself was very nice. Note that the Whitney's tea service does not allow for a custom tea selection, though you can request a decaffeinated tea. What is nice is that you have a tea pot and warmer on the table for quick refills-- though our attentive server did most of the refilling for us.

Easily the best meal I have ever eaten! The entire experience was phenomenal. Our servers, both in the bar upstairs (a really cool experience in itself) and Regan in the restaurant, were both excellent! Even the manager made us feel welcome and made sure we had a great experience. The building itself is absolutely gorgeous.

On March 8th 2024 my husband and I renewed our vows for our 10year wedding anniversary Samantha along with the other staff made sure it was absolutely beautiful. We chose The Whitney as our wedding venue and were not disappointed. Samantha, the event planner, took care of every detail as we planned the event. From the moment of our arrival we were well taken care of; no detail was overlooked. The food was scrumptious and the ambience of The Whitney was enchanting. Our wedding cake, prepared by the The Whitney, was truly one of the best I've ever tasted. The level of service, however, is what sets The Whitney apart from other venues. Not only was it fully staffed, but everyone knew exactly what they were supposed to do. I could speak to any staff member and our request was immediately addressed. We truly couldn't have been more pleased.

Went for High Tea on a Saturday afternoon with friends. It was a lovely experience in an iconic and beautiful mansion.

Absolutely amazing brunch. Forgot to take any pictures of the food as it was too good to delay. Everyone is incredible from the greeting at the door, the coat check the service and Joel on the piano creating an immaculate atmosphere for a beautiful brunch. Always a beautiful experience any time we go.

Just got home from tea at the Whitney! Everyone there treated us like we were their most special customers! What wonderful people. Food was great, the atmosphere was lovely... we'll be back! I have been to The Whitney several times. My sister actually was married in one of the private rooms. This was the first time at The Whitney as a vegan.

I have never been to a restaurant that was so willing to accommodate my food restrictions especially when it's a set menu.

I planned a tea party for 30 people and only 3 of us were vegan and the substitutions they made were great. This was a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone.

Atmosphere 10⭐

The service here is always amazing and so accommodating. They make each person feel special.

This restaurant will always be one of the most coveted because they set a standard that many others can't compete with.

If you visit Detroit, visit The Whitney and don't forget to have a drink upstairs at Ghost Bar.

team was very pleasant also. Champagne was tasty. Berry Sobert was very good. Come here if you have not been here well worth the Woodward restaurant stops. Should be first on your list.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at the Whitney restaurant in Detroit, and while the architecture and the food were exquisite, it was Joel the pianist who truly made the evening memorable. His music added a magical touch that elevated the entire experience. Joel's talent and passion for music shone through with every note, creating an ambiance that was both enchanting and unforgettable. I can't recommend the Whitney enough, especially if you're lucky enough to hear Joel play.

Tony, the manager, along with the entire staff, was extremely hospitable and Tony entertained and enthused us with his stories of the ‘paranormal’ activity! The Grand Premiere Tea was a culinary experience of a lifetime. I couldn’t wait to come back for dinner, so I was back for dinner last night. Everything was phenomenal! I had the seafood sauté which was delicious and packed with scallops, lobster, shrimp!

Lovely place! So elegant, and the food is divine. I've only gone twice, but it is such a beautiful experience. The setting is suited to celebrating in quiet luxury, or enchanting your love interest by dim candle light conversation.

The Whitney, takes top spot in the metro Detroit area from all the once that I have been so far.
The perfect example of history, historical significance and also service and food are well put and maintained to the standards along with pricing.
Highly recommended if you are in metro Detroit. This place brings the vibrancy of what Detroit was and is today.

The Whitney truly sells itself. If you enjoy a place with history and great stories then this is a place you’ll want to check out. It hides in plain sight along Woodward as you head downtown.

We went for our anniversary dinner and were blown away by the level of service. We were seated immediately upon arrival. Throughout our night there were 3 different people who stopped by to converse with us and ask if we were doing okay. My personal favorite detail was the live pianist who played exceptionally well. Service is very important to us and I must say they topped the list of places in Detroit/Metro Detroit. They provided an experience not just a meal.

We both selected a 4-course dinner menu. It included the beef wellington (I recommend medium well), the Chilean sea bass, lobster bisque, and appetizer trio. Of course we also received complimentary champagne for the occasion. The main entrees were prepared to perfection and were more filling than they appeared. If you’ve never had beef wellington this is a great first impression of it. The lobster bisque was also very rich in flavor. The appetizer trio is an acquired taste - I wasn’t in love but also didn’t hate it. In consists of a ratatouille, a shrimp cocktail and a seared piece of beef tenderloin on crostini.

The best part of all is that it’s a great price point. I’ve spent twice the money for half the quality of service at places like the Highlands. I can’t recommend the Whitney enough.

This place is magical! The craftsmanship is stunning! The food is wonderful! Its the perfect place to celebrate any occasion or just a romantic dinner for two .

Photos don't do this place justice. It's absolutely stunning in person! The atmosphere was beautiful and we really enjoyed listening to the pianist play during our meal. The food wasn't "phenomenal" but still very good! The professionalism from our server and the manager was very impressive. I can't wait to go back to check out the Ghost Bar and take their paranormal tour! Also, the valet was very convenient. Overall this was a very neat experience that I'll never forget!

Booked a reservation here for my boyfriends birthday and it was the perfect choice. The atmosphere and history of this restaurant was everything we wanted. Our server Terrance was so detailed, kind, and attentive. He gave great food suggestions and everything we ordered was fantastic. If you’re in Detroit and looking for a high end restaurant - the Whitney is a must.
