Easy excellent trail with spectacular views and lots of pretty flowers! Appreciated all the trail work to make it a safer journey. The wire offers excellent traction, just need to watch your footing on the broken/pokie spots. Without wire it's impossible given the steepness. Definitely NOT dog friendly. Too high of risk for paw injury. Also note, contrary to many other sources and sign at entrance, there is NO CAMPING.

Epic. This should be on your to-do list. You can see so far away... I circled the Astoria bridge in my pictures, then went to the bridge to take a picture of Saddle Mountain for scale perspective. It's HUGE. Everything is huge. The blurry Pic is a 360 panorama, so be sure to expand.

Great place, was awesome to help USFW and Portland Zoo and other water counsel groups! I hope the spotted larva do well.

June is a great time of year because of all the wildflowers, but parking isn't great (so get there early!) 80% of the hike is relatively easy... but it's that other 20% that reminds you this IS a mountain after all. Don't let that deter you though! Just wear good foot gear, pace yourself, and enjoy one of the best views of the coastal range.

Just an incredible hiking experience as long as you get early enough to find parking. The hike up to Saddle Mountain is steep but rewarding in good weather. If you plan on visiting, get there before 11:00 am to get a good parking spot.

Amazing hike! The views are absolutely incredible, and the wildflowers and trees were beautiful, although the summit was completely fogged over when we got there. It was a moderate hike, until the very end. The trail to the summit is steep and rocky, difficult for our whole group to get up, and then back down again. But we did it! Overall, a great hike!

Lovely park and trail for a day trip packed with adventure and fun. Dog friendly with great views on a sunnier day. We got a bunch of clouds but it was still beautiful. The road is paved all the way to the lot. Lots of wild flowers, berries and plans to explore.

Pretty strenuous hike but it's not hard. Between 3-4 hours generally. Better cloudy than clear which is very sad - it's because of logging and seeing those logged patches for clear days is just depressing you know? Sorry, I am not a tree hugger but I also have a sense of appreciation of beauty that makes me feel that way. Call me dumb, whatever. Meh!~

This is a relatively steep climb but well worth it. Incredible views on a clear day we could see the ocean and all the way north to Rainier. I would recommend not going up too late because it takes a while to get up and down (we went in late November). If you bring kids or the elderly plan to take a lot of breaks.

Nice hike, great views. Even has a chop shop at the front if you need car parts!

Great hike with rewarding views.
The climb is not too difficult. Just the last kilometer is a bit more challenging but even my 11 year old professional couch potato daughter made it up to the summit ... and none of us were wearing hiking shoes.
I got 120Mbs data connections both upload and download at 1 mile viewpoint and even got 16Mbit up/down at the summit. That's a lot faster than what I get at my house in Astoria! Maybe I should move my home office to Saddle Mountain's summit! :)))

Gorgeous view today! Although, glad we hit the trail early, it was definitely very packed by the time we got done.

Awesome hike to Saddle mountain peak, through various terrains. Path has quite some snow end of February, but for fit people still accessible. Advised is to go during clear weather.
Careful for the giant potholes in the road to the trailhead

So gorgeous. Quite the hike. 2.5mi and that last half mile is harder than the rest. What a view! One of the best.

Second time doing this hike and it was not as hard as I remember it. Be careful because there are a lot of potholes on the road to the trail head. The views on this hike are spectacular, but unfortunately we didn't get to enjoy them this time around.

Beautifully stunning hike with many breathtaking views. The hike can be fairly difficult due to the elevation change. Bring plenty of h2o!

Pretty cool hike. It's definitely worth making sure you go on a cloudless day.

One of the best hikes I've been on! Great viewing points the whole way up. Pretty steep and difficult towards the top, but there are plenty of places to turn around.

I've climbed this a few times. Amazing views! Rather strenuous climb at the end after hitting the first "summit," but there is metal grating laid over the path for safety. Try to go on a clear day. Note: the whether there may be vastly different than in Portland (as I experienced last time I went... I narrowly avoided rain and the top was completely enveloped in a cloud; beautiful sunny day in Portland).

For the fitness buffs who wish to race straight up in under an hour to the leisurely hiker who wants to take their time and enjoy the view, there is no better hike along the coast that offers such a commanding view of the north coast of Oregon. The trail is well maintained, expect to run into off leash dogs, and on sunny holidays this place will get packed. Kudos to the state employees who keep this trail well maintained! TIP: go on a weekday.
