Turkey Bayou

First time been there, free camping with amazing spot by the lake. Managed by volunteer, Jason was very helpfull. Quiet place to stay

Love this place our kids have grown up here. The gental man that takes care of this place is very nice. Yes it’s a little ways back from the highway but close enough to town to get anything you need. We have meet a lot of nice people over the 20 plus years we have camped here. Best thing about the Friends of the Bayou is now we get watch our granddaughter grow up here to.

DNR officer was super friendly and helpful. Campground is clean and very relaxing. Great place to camp a few days.

Free camping no power or water services but camping by a body of water with you can fish and have a camp fire nice and quiet in a rural area of southwest Illinois

A great place to hang out for the weekend plenty of fishing hunting great for tents and campers there is a spring-fed water on 3 before you come in

This was our first stay here, also our first experience dry camping. It is a great place. Well kept and beautiful. Norm is the host and he was also great. We will definitely be back. Beautiful country all around.

We watched the Solar Eclipse from here. We didn't camp but it would have been a great place to do so since it's such a centrally located spot to a lot of surrounding hiking areas. Best part is it's free! It's also off the beaten path from everything else so you feel like you're part of nature but still near some towns in case you need to stock up. Oh, and the guy who runs the site is super friendly and helpful and passionate about the Turkey Bayou.

Very good camping spot it is on the river so bring some bug spray make sure you clean up it's not funded by the government it's kept up by some locals make sure you give them a donation seeing as they don't get any sort of help or pay for doing this. But otherwise good free camping spot

beautiful place to stay. Lots of water around you. a portable bathroom, fire pits, tables and grass is maintained by the locals. a donation box and online donation link are available to those interested in donating to keep up with maintenance. Stayed here in may 2020

Went camping for the eclipse . It was great .

Most spots are gravel and some sites are double like the one I have..but overall not bad..some frontage spots are close to the river but not shady..This makes my 2nd time here..No dumpsters for trash..So you pack it in pack it out This campground is in the Shawnee National Forest..and volunteers
run it by keeping the grass mowed..and keeping fire pits cleaned out..Donations accepted but not required for keeping campground clean..
