Little Grand Canyon Parking Area

Probably the second hardest trail we have done, but we'll worth it due to wet leaves Had to pick up our 60-pound dogs 3 times to help them with the back trail. Views were absolutely incredible. If you would like an easy to moderate trail. Park next to the restroom, and do an in and out trail.

Parking and maps are not that great. The trails are quite rugged and slick. Be prepared for anything here. It's a tough one. But sooooooo worth it if you are prepared properly. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a challenge.

If going after a rainfall wait a few days for the trails to dry out as some areas the trail is very narrow with steep drop offs. Take your time, watch your footing and enjoy the amazing scenery. Acends and descends are very steep in some spots, small children and dogs will need to be boosted up or helped down. I got to see the eagles riding the drafts at the end of my hike, was glorious to behold. There are water moccasins in the lake so just pay attention near the water, don't step on one. Have a wonderful hike!

The first time I visited I didn't know I had a fractured hip..a heart condition..and it's "ex". I went back on my own several weeks ago..it was a lovely experience! Bare in minds folks..this trail is tricky..you will have to navigate on slick and steep sand stone..also there is frequent flooding down below..not impossible to traverse but you've got to be more mindful of the detour paths.

Be ready to get your feet wet! Beautiful landscape and a great little hike. If you're bringing dogs they should be small enough to carry or brave enough to scramble up and down slick rocks.

Really neat place! Interesting rock formations. The trail is moderate. You have to hike down and up 2 small canyons over little streams. Just take your time. Good time to go is during the week. Mosquitos can be bad in the summer.

Absolutely gorgeous! Make sure you come ready to climb up and down a few rocks as the trail has a few large rocks to navigate. Overall a moderate+ trail that is absolutely worth the visit!

Amazing place to hike! Tough trail to navigate for beginners but worth it for the views.

It's beautiful not an easy hike though it's pretty step and parts are kinda dangerous to get past but overall beautiful if you like a challenge

Wonderful hike with beautiful scenery. Though I warn fellow hikers this trail is a bit more tricky than your usual trail and you need to be very careful when its wet because you will be climbing up smooth rocks.

Incredible park with excellent trails and pristine wildlife. The trek down to the canyon bottoms is challenging and not for folks with knees much worse than mine...but well worth the effort for the birds and other fauna and flora. Having been all over Shawnee in recent years, this has to be my favorite destination.

Excellent hiking trail!

Have hiked Shawnee region for years, finally made it to Little Grand Canyon. Just awesome! Great trail! Lots of families and couples with dogs! Had a great time. Definitely the hiking trail to go to for the Carbondale area.

This is an amazing trail unlike no other! It was beautiful and the rock formations are awesome! So neat to get to climb up and down the rocky canyons!

Nice parking area with space for 15 vehicles or so. A few uncovered picnic tables, and a vault toilet to boot. If you're planning to hike here, expect to get a little wet. Between completing the majority of the ascent into and descent out of the canyon through a couple of creek beds, plus crossing the stream at the bottom multiple times, it seems inevitable you'll get wet somehow. Still a fun experience, and a little change of pace from most of the other trails in the area.

Pit toilets and bear resistant trash bins. I didn’t see any water so bring it. Pack it in then you pack it out and leave no trace

Nice parking lot. The trail entrance is clearly marked. The parking lot was at half capacity on a rainy Tuesday afternoon so I can see how it might get filled on a nice weekend.

amazing place. breathtaking views. bring hiking boots - there is mud and water you have to go through.
