A great little park. Enjoyed a hike, took a picnic lunch as we couldn't pass up such a beautiful New Year's Eve day. BTW, the bathrooms were super clean and warm!!

Wow wow wow this is a must stop, never thought I would have the opportunity to visit Lewises house. He stayed in and learn of the unfortunate events that occurred here.
As an avid traveler like we are, Lewis and Clark, are some of my favorite explorers having initially mapped out the land and creating a trail West, into the unknown wilderness pass the Mississippi River all the way to the ocean.
If you haven’t learned or read about Lewis and Clark, I would highly recommend doing so.
Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, also known as the Corps of Discovery Expedition, was the United States expedition to cross the newly acquired western portion of the country after the Louisiana Purchase both co-leaders of an expedition tasked with exploring land that the United States had recently acquired. Duration lasted
862 days. Under U.S. President Thomas Jefferson, President Jefferson goals was to find "the most direct and practicable water communication across this continent, for the purposes of commerce." He also placed special importance on declaring US sovereignty over the land occupied by the many different Native American tribes along the Missouri River, and getting an accurate sense of the resources in the recently completed Louisiana Purchase

The Corps of Discovery was a select group of U.S. Army and civilian volunteers under the command of Captain Meriwether Lewis and his close friend Second Lieutenant William Clark. Clark and 30 members.

We just came upon this on our motorcycle ride. Definitely glad we stopped. Small exhibit building but full of information. I recommend reading the pages of personal accounts. It completed my vision of his last night. Sad ending to an amazing man’s story but I’m glad we learned more. Very reverent to Merriweather Lewis and the family who owned the property. When we left I felt like I had met them all.

Meriwether Lewis was one of America's greatest explorers. He died a young man (mid-30s), just a few years after returning from his Lewis and Clark Expedition. He was traveling on the Natchez Trace to Louisiana when he died of a gunshot wound. He was buried in the nearby Pioneer Cemetery. The monument is well worth stopping to see. You'll get a sense of the history of the early 1800s.

Who wouldn't want to hike the historic Old Trace? Imagine you are an early trader or a Freedom Seeker running north. Easy hike into forest. The Monument, Pioneer Cemetery and Grinders Stand, where he died were excellent.

This whole area really impacted me, as an American History teacher. I had no clue about it. Being in the place where he died is surreal. This has prompted me to learn so much more about Lewis' life after the Louisiana Purchase expedition.

The pioneer cemetary is shocking because you don't realize you are walking all over it, thinking the headstones are rocks! I was able to record all of this and show/discuss this with my class so they will have knowledge of it. I plan to return in a few months.

Amazing stop along the Natchez Trace Parkway. There is campground nearby and you can learn about this American legend. I also had a paranormal experience when I visited the monument at night.

Interesting place to visit. Lots of historical information about Meriwether Lewis in the log cabin. The staff in the cabin were friendly and informative. Peaceful, well kept grounds with several trails and a campground nearby. I highly recommend a visit here if you're traveling the Natchez Trace Parkway

A hidden jewel. Found this place looking for free places to camp. Hit the jackpot on this one. There are MANY camping spots for both tent and small RV. The place was super quiet and there are bathroom facilities too. I didn't have time to explore the park properly but there were trails and more that peeked my interest.
Will be back.
