Kishwaukee Gorge North Forest Preserve

So glad we came here! Very beautiful trail along the river that follows the ridge and then cuts down through the gorge! Cool stairs takes you down to the water and give you a great view from above to gorge! Whole loops takes 30-40min, easy for all ages and not very busy!

Beautiful place to come to get a little elevation hiking. There are easy trails to follow, and for those more adventurous, some pretty steep stairs near one of the ravines. There is some highway noise especially in the cooler months when foliage has died back, but it's easy to forget about when exploring. Lots of interesting mosses, lichens, and fungus to see even when the foliage is off the trees.

As of August 2023, expect to park at the closed gate and walk in along the paved road to access the walking trails.

Such a awesome spot to go for a nice walk . There are many stairs to get to the gorge and they are steep , probably not recommended if you have walking issues

I went there to bird watch and wasn't let down. It's a great simple loop with a path down to the river. Be warned though that the path down is very challenging especially when coming back up

I loooooove taking my Clemmie for walks here...it's so peaceful and a perfect loop and easy run for us both!!❤❤❤❤❤

Sitting on the rocky beach by the river is one of my favorite spots. This is a beautiful location and I strongly recommend it.

This was a great walk area. This park overall was a short trail. I would estimate about 30 min walk around the loop if you didn't stop and enjoy the views. If you plan to go down the steps to see the stream come down the hill be careful.

A beautiful trail for the adventurer. I have active boys and they loved it. Not the most toddler friendly, so I just wore the little guy on me. We'd all love to come back.

After driving to the end parking area there are two trails to pick. The left goes to the gorge, bring sturdy shoes and be ready for mud if its rained recently. Trail is unpaved but has a bridge when neededm

This is honestly the best forest preserve I've visited in the county. Beautiful scenery and a great workout! No creepers lurking either which is always a plus. Before you settle on another preserve have a look at this place.

Fantastic place to go for a walk or hangout outdoors.

In rainy seasons there's small cascading waterfalls that go down the center of the gorge with long flights of stairs that go all the way down to the river great for getting your feet wet, fishing or even turtling. Very peaceful & there is a small cave or two in the sides of the bluff if you can find them

Such an incredible preserve. One day this will be a state park mark my words. It’s so underrated, the gorge is beautiful and I think a stair case should be made to the hidden cave within the gorge.
