Wise County Appraisal District

The folks in Wise County were very friendly (like most Texans are) and very helpful with my "hairball" of a situation. They took care of it by mail which saved me a 900 mile round trip. All I can say is "Thank You!".....

Penny A. was amazing today, she was helpful and had the best customer service I've seen in a WHILE! This location is not too busy (or at least it wasn't when we decided to take the drive this way), and you're able to get your paperwork filed in record time.

I needed to update some information regarding new buildings on my property and old buildings being removed. The people I spoke to were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Very professional. I pay property taxes in 2 counties (school taxes in a different county). My experience with the appraisal office in the other county was completely different - not at all professional. I was very happy with the staff and my appraiser at Wise!

This group is awesome. They have absolutely been very forthcoming with information, and prompt to respond to any questions. This is the first government entity that called me back within 30 mins of leaving a voice mail. I can't say enough good things about these guys and gals.

A very nice lady named Penny helped me put together the papers I needed. She was Awesome!

All of the ladies up there are super helpful and friendly.

They don't answer the phone so I drove to Decatur to get help. Lady at the window was very kind and helpful filing Homestead exemption paperwork.

I see they’ve corrected their address on the map!

I waited 2 hours for my 11:00 appointment. I took my new sale contract at $460,000. Comps were erroneous but that is what they went by. When the State audits this office, they will have to explain why I was still appraised at $614,001!!! That’s a huge discrepancy! Good luck 🍀since the final contract was $450,000! I hope you get audited & reprimanded! So happy to move out of Wise County!!!

I went in to the office to inquire about changes made to my property assessment. The clerk would not even look it up. The supervisor at Denton county fixed it and said she even sent it to Wise county this morning so it should have been there. The lazy clerk would not even look it up she said kept saying oh there's no way no way it will only be back in like 3 weeks. I thought Denton county had some incompetent people working there but this girl takes the cake.

I just had an amazingly awful experience with the ARB, in particular Troy, my appraiser. My improvements were valued at $20 per sq ft higher then everyone else with comparable homes. I couldn't protest the land value because those were comparable. I sent in comparisons with pictures off of real estate websites that showed a pic of the home and the sq footage. I also told them that Troy had stated I had a two story home when I actually only have a 1 1/2 story home. only 100 sq ft upstairs is livable. Troy in particular was extremely condescending and interrupted me a couple of times. He used the "property value" report on the Realtor.com picture as evidence that he valued my home correctly. You could look at 10 different sites and have 10 different values. I explained I was only trying to show a pic of the home and sq footage and was brushed off. He then quoted what I paid for the home which they aren't supposed to even use. After he finished speaking to me like I was a child, they deliberated and I could hear them talking about me and saying I supported their case. I spoke up and asked how that was the case when my home was appraised by troy at 20 more per sq ft and was told basically to shut up because the hearing was over. I told them they needed to take themselves off speaker phone then. Wise County is not your friend and they are solely in the business of taking your money from you and doing everything they can to run you out of your home. If I were you I wouldn't even move into Wise County!

I live in what's considered county instead of city for a reason. I deal with no city services, including fire hydrants and maintained roads, so I don't have to pay more in taxes than I do on my mortgage. They doubled my property value in one year, and the appeal process is a waste of time. I waited 2 hours past my appointment time to be told to just deal with it. Who do you vote out to fix that?

Horrible place. Zero respect. Avoid in person interactions here - if you can.

All I know is Wise county is getting crazy people to appraise property, or they just tell them to stick it to the people with property!

Act like they will help you but they dont
