Mashumen

When I tell you that I DREAM of coming back to this place. We are about 30 minutes away from Mashumen which is probably for the best considering I would eat here everyday. I get the Mashu Ramen every single time. It has pork, bean sprouts, mushrooms, seaweed, rice cake, amazing and slightly spicy broth, and soft boiled eggs that are seriously so incredible. They are sweet and melt in your mouth. The bowls run around $15. I love this place and would give it 10 stars if I could!

I stopped by to get lunch and was not disappointed. I ordered a thai iced tea and the tantanmen and it was incredible. The tea was beautiful and more like a dessert drink. I usually don’t like a ton of spice so the tantanmen was perfect for me. Reasonable pricing, great selection.

Really great flavors from the Ramen. Had Spicy Miso and the flavor was great. Spice level was just enough, not too spicy but the chili oil will stay with you for about 5-6 minutes after your done. The atmosphere is basic but they are trying to be successful in a challenging time. Just remember on Tuesdays there is NO sushi. Not 100% why, but was greeted with that statement as I entered. Service was great and attentive.

I will be back for more Ramen!!

All the items we ordered were delicious. The vegetable Ramen was good and shrimp tempura roll was excellent. I forgot the name of the appetizer we had but it was so yum. As dessert we had fried ice cream which was superb. I will visit again next time I am in town. Happy eating!

Mashumen is the best ramen you can expect from a place the size of Charlottesville, and I would call it the best in town as well. As of 2023, their sushi menu has seen a big boost as well. There’s all the standard appetizers and a decent selection of ramen types. The ingredients are up to par and they are numerous. You can order alternatives to the noodles in the special order request (we did take out) with no problem. Overall, the best ramen experience within a 2 hour drive.

We are on our way back to Roanoke from Richmond, when I craved Asian... Google recommended Thai Silk Restaurant which is just few minutes exit interstate; unfortunately its closed due to renovation. We saw thus Mashumen resto just beside it so we tried.
The food is great but the hostess made it special. She is very attentive to clients. Offered us and explained the dishes.
Food is great... not the super best but it was served few minutes after we ordered. They wont hurry you up and give the bill ASAP. They will let you savor and anjoy their food.

Fantastic Japanese restaurant to have great Ramen. The family and I started off with several pork buns, which hit the right spot! We ate Mayu Ramen and Shoyu Ramen for the main fish. The food was delicious, and so were the cocktails we ordered. The wait staff was fantastic and attended to all our dining needs. The ambiance was great, and the place is located within a few minutes from UVA. I would absolutely recommend you try this restaurant out. The ramen is comparable to the Japanese food we eat at our hometown in Northern Virginia. Great find!

The waiter was so kind. He hosted my father and I. Super polite and very quick. My Japanese speaking is very bad due to me taking it for the first time this year. It is strange because I can write fine, but conversation is hard. I tried to communicate in the little bits that came to mind. And he was very kind in trying to understanding me. Even if I messed up particles and could not remember the year counter. 😆 すごいですね！ The food was terrific as well. I am excited to go again 💕 ありがとうございました。あなたは優しいですね！楽しいですね！

Amazing, amazing food and experience. Best ramen I've ever had and the Sushi/Sashimi platter we got was beyond expectation. We left so happy and satisfied 😊 and our bellies were very full!

Phenomenal service, great food, cool space, 10/10 will be coming back. I ordered the Shoyu Ramen and Chashu buns. Both were quickly delivered to my table and the waitress went out of her way to make sure I was comfortable and enjoying my time.

I found the ramen comparable to LA’s little Tokyo!

The food was fantastic! The Ramen was flavorful and the sushi and appetizers were great. I particularly liked the gyoza.

Great discovery! We tried it on Labor Day. Cool interior and overall different ambient than the most restaurants. The service was fast. The food was also another good surprise. It came fast and was really delicious. Our server was very polite and respectful. Whenever I am again in Charlottesville area I will make sure to stop by again!

Excellent ramen, very nice décor, and prompt service. What else can you ask for at a ramen restaurant. Gyoza was cooked to perfection, crispy on the bottom and still tender on top. We ordered a Spicy Miso Ramen and a Ma-Shu Ramen. Both were fantastic, fully of flavor, and very filling. It will be hard not to order the same thing each time but I'm willing to take one for the team and try out some other ramen varieties when we are in Charlottesville again. Definitely worth a go if you want some good ramen when in Charlottesville.

I have never had Ramen before and was having a guys day with my nephew. The waitress was so very polite and the food...oh the food was magnificent. If I could give it 6 stars I would.

Mashumen might be the best restaurant in Cville! I moved to Cville from a large city and the food scene here has been overwhelmingly disappointing. My partner and I were skeptical at first, but the food blew us away. Everything we tried was incredibly affordable and delicious. We will absolutely be back.

Tried the tofu appetizer and the spicy Ramen with pork, and they were amazing! We ordered delivery and they packaged it perfectly so that it wouldn't spill or get soggy. We can't wait to try them again!

Got takeout a few times and finally dined in. The service was fast and friendly, possibly due to the fact that I was the only customer at the time. The food is definitely more comforting compare to when having them as takeouts. The gyoza could be pan-fried for a little longer but I truly love that they pan-fry instead of deep-frying it (which is not the way to make dumplings/gyoza). I also have tried their chicken karaage before which I remembered being pretty good. Definitely a place for a quick but cozy lunch/dinner.

I changed my rating to 5 stars after trying their expanded menu. They might not have the best quality fish, but everything is at least right about the cooking. The nigiri rice was seasoned lovely, and the tamagoyaki cooked just right. I will say this is the most authentic Japanese experience in town.

Out of all the places to get ramen in Charlottesville, this place is my favorite! The ramen is just so amazing and I always catch myself craving some!

Mashumen is one of my favorite spots to come with my dad when I'm in town! Today we came back with my brother and had a wonderful dinner. We each had different ramen and a side of edamame. The food is always so quick, hot and delicious. We've tried a few different items and all have been amazing. Parking is in the back, don't let the current construction out front scare you away! I don't think you could go wrong with anything on the menu. The staff are so sweet and accommodating, helping you decide exactly what you want to eat and make it work best for your palate!
