Meads Longwood Meat Market

Mr Russ Mead opened the meat market in the mid-1940s, and my parents began shopping there shortly after they moved to Rockford from Chicago. Not only are the meats superior, but the personal service is stellar. Although I never met Mr Russ Mead, his son and grandson remember their customers by name AND not only remember the customers' usual orders, but also suggest products they might like to try. They are willing to make special orders, and suggest cooking tips if asked. Their catering service is wonderful. I love to get their barbeque sandwiches, but I always ask them to give me the bread and put the meat in a container...the sandwiches are so huge that I usually eat them over three days!

Hey y’all, you need to remember where this place is, almost everyone in Rockford passes it several times a month if not several times a week.

You need to hit the brakes, pull in the parking lot, walk inside order a sandwich with side orders or awesome meat packages to go.

Absolutely fantastic lunch, meats, and most importantly people. Could not recommend them highly enough. Do yourself a favor and stop in and check them out if you aren't already a loyal customer. Check all the rest of the reviews and you'll notice they are rated 4.9, and the couple reviews that aren't a 5 are written as though they loved the joint. Bottom line, there isn't anything not to love about Meads.

I picked up some T-bones, and chicken breast for our family’s dinner and I’ll tell you what… you’re not going to get the same quality at Walmart, Sam’s, or any other corporation. This is by far the Best Meat Market I’ve been to in years.
Customer service was excellent … fyi …they season your meats for you which I absolutely loved . Get home, chill the meat for an hour or two and they’re ready to smoke,grill etc

You really need to stop by Mead's a couple of times a month and make them part of your regular grocery shopping routine. There is no place in the Rockford area that treats meat better. From the perfectly juicy corned beef sandwich I had today, to the hard-to-find whole pheasant for last Christmas, this is your place. Ryan will cut your ribeye steaks just as thick as you like, and his dad practically invented seasoning. All you need after that is a cast iron skillet! The Meads have served the Rockford area for generations and have great working relationships with many businesses. Every dollar you spend here not only supports this great butcher shop, but also the local farms that supply them. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!

Truly one of the last neighborhood butchers around!! Always a friendly greeting. Make you part of the family. Always a great selection of great tasting and tender meats. Have been coming here for years. They do the cutting and grinding so your choices are always fresh. Some great sides made in house as well. And deli choices! Try the white or 5 yr old cheddar. And they make daily choices of hot sandwiches as well. Outstanding! And catering! Can you tell We are fans?!!!

The absolute best selection of meats I’ve had a nice home feel. Jeff the owner is amazing ask for your steaks to be seasoned. The daily sandwich specials taste amazing with the fresh peppers. Absolutely love this place. 🤌🏾💯

There's nothing bad or negative I can say about meads. They're always there and always the best.

Mon-Friday from about 11am-1 best sandwiches in town and great people.. always puts me in a better mood just walking in the place. And can't go wrong with any of the food they serve for lunch. 10/10 HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!

The owner is so kind and helpful when I go in for steaks, pork chops and salads! It is a great family owned business and I love that they will season my steaks before packaging them. All I have to do is take the steaks home and grill them up! My husband and I love their steaks! All of their side salads are delicious, but my favorite is the garlic potato salad, yum!

Have been going in and supporting this locally owned business for over 25 years. You won't leave there without being treated like family and with awesome cuts seasoned only the way they can do it! Jeff and Ryan are the best!

Owner is super nice! They make all kinds of sides and freeze them for easy reheat. They offer to season meat, I usually prefer to do my own but tried it last time and it was great. Don't let the neighborhood scare you from this gem.

Awesome place to get meat at a great price. Also they have great sandwiches, don't hesitate to sample the meats before you have them put it on your sandwich. Not sure if the owners still around, but it's my go to place of I'm in the area... can't turn it down.

Love this place, the seasoned steaks r delicious. From package to grill to your plate, it's that simple and it will melt in your mouth. Plus very helpful and friendly ♡♡♡

Friendly Helpful service. They even went to the trouble of researching and provided me a recipe for preparing a brisket for a Hanukkah party. Reminiscent of the old days when all businesses provided good customer service. There's a reason why they have been in business so long.
