Loco Jo's Bar & Grill

Feels like a local place. Great food with fast friendly service. Tried the special, catch of the day over lemongrass curry. Fish was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The curry had a little bit of spice to it but not uncomfortable, a cup of rice on the side. The Fish and Chips order was a very generous portion, with a side of homemade chips.

Sat at the bar as those were the only 2 seats available. Very busy and everyone was enjoying themselves. The bar tende,r Nikki, was great and fast. She was taking care of multiple customers at once. Ordered the Cabo Shrimp Tacos, Chipotle Chicken Wrap, a Vodka Orange Crush and a Sunny Sunrise.Food was delicious and drinks were great.

The cozy atmosphere and southern hospitality made us feel like locals. The portions where huge and the food was fresh, hot, and perfectly seasoned. The fish and chips are a must. As a Kentuckian, I was very impressed with the wide range of specialty bourbons and whiskies.

This is an excellent little spot to grab some delicious food and a drink. It’s kind of a locals type spot and everyone is welcome. I had their famous cheeseburger and it is awesome. My wife loved the fish tacos. Great service.

I might sound a bit like Guy Fieri on this one because this is just the kind of place Diners,Drive Ins & Dives, and I love to find and talk about.
Loco jo's is one of those discreet very small hidden in the corner of a small business complex that you may just walk right past because it looks like it could be just another normal local pub with the same old boaring pub food, but NO, it is anything but that.
The menu here may be a bit small to some standards but the elevated and creatively Asian inspired dishes along with some normal pub favorites that are created In the kitchen rivaled many Asian and american restaurants I've had in the past. Every dish that came to our table far exceeded what any of us expected. From the crispy fried ribs to the lemon grass curry with seared tuna and the banh mi sandwich, every dish made to order with the freshest ingredients as possible. I would have loved to be in that kitchen watching the chef and crew working up these meals that were coming out in record time. Along with a great local vibe and an excellent wait staff that is very attentive I'll guarantee you'll fall in love with this place as much as we did, so you ever find yourself in Southport NC or any where remotely close you gotta go give this place a try,

Super friendly staff. GREAT drinks. Their food is always good. There aren't many tables on the inside...a little small. They do have a good many bar seats. Overall, I really like this place. Definitely recommend stopping in for some food and drinks.... Definitely drinks.

I must have driven past this place at least a dozen times before noticing it when I pulled into the little strip mall that it's in. It's in the corner of the mall and has tree coverage, so it's easy to miss but definitely do not skip out on this one!

Located right on the border of the Downtown Southport area, Loco Jo's somehow feels more like a locals place vs. a tourist place. They only have five tables indoors and two outside, so you might have to wait during a busier time or grab a bar seat (about 10 chairs there). It'll be worth the wait, though!

The cocktail menu is unique and interesting, though we went for lunch and didn't order any drinks. The food menu has a similar vibe. The food was excellent. We had a Ceasar salad, boom boom cauliflower, fish tacos, and fried chicken tacos. All were cooked very well and seasoned perfectly. The fish tacos especially were excellent with very crispy fried fish.

Can't wait to come back here and try more!

Southport's hidden jem. Have been going since Chuck & Nikki took it over, and I have never been disappointed. Not even once! It's a small restaurant with a large northern customer base, so it can get quite loud in there when they're busy. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and inviting. We love the owners, Janna at the bar, and Ashley is a sweetheart, too. The food is, how can I put it? Phenomenal! It's always fresh and delicious, and it's definitely one of our favorite restaurants around. Their delicious daily specials, cocktails, and homemade desserts are to die for. Do yourself a favor, and give them a try. Just save my seat at the bar, please.

The waitstaff was very friendly and attentive. The food was great! We started with the jumbo pretzel, then got the blackened tuna tacos and Bahn Mi. Everything was excellent, and there were many more tempting items on the menu I look forward to trying in the future. I'd definitely recommend this little place!

Lemongrass curry - perfect balance of spice and delicious savory curry. Pair with a watermelon margarita for a refreshing sip in between each kick. Service was personable, busy but not so much you feel ignored. Famous burger are made with fresh patties. Can’t wait to come back.

WOW!!! Talk about being pleasantly surprised. What a gem. I've had Bahn Mi in Hanoi, and this was pretty dang close! The boom boom cauliflower... Dangggg... Today's special was a fried chicken bao bun... Daggum... I hope it's on the menu when you get there... Moral of the story is... Get there!!!

Amazing daily specials! I got Pineapple Jerk Baby Back Ribs with rice and Carribean Slaw as well as Salted Carmel Cheesecake and it was all to die for! My best friend got the Fish & Chips which was HUGE as well as the Dumpling appetizer and it was all absolutely delicious as well! Highly recommend this place! It's now a staple when I come to Oak Island!

So much fun. Great drinks good food. Waitress was fantastic, had our group of 5 laughing the whole time. Wish I got her name.

UPDATE-12/27/2022 Another awesome experience. Ordered the half chicken Jamaican Jerk special and it did not disappoint...Very good food, I heard they are just re-opening. Recommended from a local and it was great, friendly atmosphere but limited seating. Might have to wait to get a seat but worth the wait.

What a find! Terrific asian inspired menu, not at all what you might expect from a bar and grill. Plus a full menu of bourbons, whiskeys and craft cocktails. I couldn’t stay long so I ordered the dumplings from the appetizer menu. Not frozen, very tasty and it came with fresh wasabi and ginger! Who does that? Nice people, nice place great food. I’ll be back and you should check it out too.

We have eaten here several times. It’s been a great experience every time.

This spot is a hidden gem for bourbon lovers! Nikki keeps the bar stocked with an amazing selection of bourbons and ryes - all for a great price. Come for the bourbon but stay for the food because the Asian inspired dishes are so flavorful and delicious. The lemongrass curry shrimp was a killer dinner!

We had party of 8, and were sat right down. But it is a smaller place so might want to call ahead if you have a larger group. The drink I got was called the pain killer. Lived up to the name, lol. Strong, but good. Ordered the chicken and steak lo mein and it was fabulous, even my 3 year old daughter loved it. My 11 year old son said that the burger he got was the best he'd ever had. Out of the 8 of us there was no complaints and everyone raved about how good their meal was. We will definitely be back!

Stopped in after running an errand near Southport and, despite it being winter, the place was full. But it was mild enough to sit outside, and we were greeted and seated quickly! The inside is cozy and lively. The menu has a really neat pub/thai/fish taco flair. The service was excellent, the food was delicious. We had dumplings to share that were gobbled up almost too quick for a picture. I had the tom kha gai soup, and they happily brought me a large dose of spice to add to it. And finally, the curry bowl was PERFECT and really hit the spot. This was quite a find and we can't wait to get back.

Great local bar with perfect appetizers and dishes to go with a cocktail. Friendly staff and very knowledgeable bartender. Definitely recommend after a day around Southport
