Amazing hike. You are definitely going to get a little wet, but it is so worth it. Wear a really good solid pair of sturdy, hiking shoes that are grippy. The rocks can be Slippy.

My family and I just went there and by luck, it was one of the weekends when they were releasing water from the dam. It was amazing, the difference of having been there Saturday late afternoon (when there hadn't been a release yet) and Sunday morning. I remember thinking, "the water sounds a LOT louder today" when first getting there Sunday 😄
It really was an amazing place! We loved the views and the north/south rim trails were not challenging but had great payout!

Awesome place to hike but do be ready to go down and back up a lot of stairs!!! The views from all of the different lookouts is amazing. We did the loop and on the other side of the gorge you are able to see the lookouts we were on earlier and it was amazing at how high up we were. Will defiantly be back to walk on the gorge floor when they open it back up and it is warmer. They only give out 100 passes per day and the ranger we spoke with said that one the weekends passes “sell out” in a mater of minutes.

Phoenix, our Border Collie, gave this trail a paws up LOL. This review is for the South Rim Trail. You can see the type of trail from the pics. For more details, go to Paws on the Prowl Facebook page.

If you follow my pics, this trail starts at the campground: Tallulah Gorge State Park Campground. You can start from the Interpretive Center on 338 Jane Hurt Yarn Dr, Tallulah Falls, GA 30573. There is a parking fee.

This follows the South Rim Trail which is 3/4 mile one way and is dog friendly, not wheelchair accessible. I would consider it an easy trail and I am moderate in shape. An older can do this trail as well. And you can continue with the North Rim Trail for a total of 2.5 miles.

When you walk over the bridge, the cars and trucks are driving very fast and are very loud. I don't recommend that path for dogs who are fearful and/or sensitive to loud noises and fast movement. Make sure your dog's collar cannot come off in case they get startled. And hold that leash properly looped around your wrist so they can't yank out.

There are several stops along the way to stop and rest or enjoy any view.

Phoenix felt cheated when we got to the Bridal Veil entrance since no dogs are allowed LOL. Around 350 steps to the suspension bridge and around another 250 to the bottom of the gorge. So you can access that trail from South Rim which is why I think so many reviews include the Bridal Veil Trail. You can see the suspension bridge from above.

Outlooks 8 and 9 have beautiful views even in August. Outlooks 7 and 10 were overgrown but I'm sure beautiful in the winter. Phoenix can't see those views either way so she didn't care.

There are crossroads clearly marked to the Interpretive Center and such. There are a couple of very short trails (unmarked) and circle right back to the main trail.

The trail ends at Outlook 10. Overgrown in August.

On the way back, we decided to go down the stairs at the bridge where the very fast cars and trucks go by. The last pics show where. There you can see one view of the dam. You can also walk under the bridge to the other set of stairs to be on the other side of the road. This would be the safest way to get back to the Interpretive Center rather than cross that busy highway.

Overall a very enjoyable trail.

Things you need: good shoes, water for you and your dog, poop bags. Use bug spray and suntan lotion though sun exposure is very moderate.

Death by stairs! ☠ It was great! Absolutely stunning views and so much fun using the suspension bridge to cross the river. The stairs really aren’t that bad for anyone in decent shape. We went to all the lookouts and even explored down at the gorge. I would have loved to be there on a release day to see them open the damn. Will definitely be back for more adventures.

TONS of verticality here. If you plan on seeing the waterfalls, prepare to go down and back up a couple hundred steps. It's a lot! But it's really worth it. There is a rim trail that goes along the top of the gorge that offers neat views from above if you have children, or are looking for a light hike. There are signs that clearly show the difficulty and length of each route, which is helpful.

The welcome center is really informational, and gives a good background on the geological features and the history of the gorge. There's a few rangers that can answer questions, a gift shop, exhibits, and a theater. It's a really cool preface to the hike, and isn't too overwhelming.

Great trail. Can get busy tho. You have to pay $5 for parking or have a state park pass. The trail has many overlooks and you can really make it a short walk if you want or one that’s several miles. Enjoyed the views.

Absolutly great experience today. We arrived at 8:05am and were able to get 4 of the 100 permits. They only give out 100 permits per day to hike the gorge trail. The hike is strenuous but the views are beautiful and your rewarded with a swimming hole at the end. Bring alot of water. Meaning about 64 oz a person to be safe. You cross alot of rocks which makes the 3 mile loop seem like 5 or 6. This was a truly great experience.

Absolutely loved it! Breathtaking views on the north rim trail. Mostly an easy hike for me and my dog. He doesn’t do steps well so I did carry him when we had one flight of stairs to go up and down! Wish I had more time to spend there. Would definitely go back to try the south rim and the lower gorge trails. A must see!!

Although it's middle of November, the color of leaves still gave us a surprise. The trail has few sections which may confuse people, main sections are: North Rim Trail, Hurricanes Falls Trail, South Rim Trail. Typically Interpretive Center serves as starting point, it actually is a visitor center, and parking lot, it requires $5 at entrance. Starting from lower level of the center. The outlook point 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 are at North Rim Trail, outlook point 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 are at South Rim Trail..

We normally schedule to go for a loop: follow North Rim Trail to visit OP 1 and Inspiration point which gives best view on north rim, then back to OP 3 and OP 2,, where follow steep staircase to Hurricanes Falls, at bottom there's a little suspension bridge, it's also a popular picture point. Then there comes challenging 221 steps up to South Rim Trail, once up and catch breath, go left to OP 8, 9, 10, where has equally beautiful views as north rim, then back to OP 7, 6, crossing bridge to OP 5, 4 of north rim, then parking lot. It's 3 miles loop, the recorded elevation was 628ft on Strava and 570ft on MapMyrun, we took 2 and half hours, took plenty of pictures.

One of the many beautiful natural parks to visit in Georgia, with a beautiful scenic view of several waterfalls. Beware the stares! If you are not healthy, do not attempt them. Otherwise, the entire journey is worth your time - it is quite a hike!

Highly recommend making time to do the entire trail, beautiful views from each look out point. The stairs are no joke though, so be prepared as this is the most intense part of the trails.

Be ware of stairs! Just do the rim trails if you can’t climb. Wonderful place/area to take a day trip if you live in the north Georgia area. $5 to park. And if you drive 5-10 min down the road there is a really cute downtown with restaurants and shops. Will come back in the summer!

I watched Karl Wallenda perform the tightrope walk on TV when I was a child. It was incredible to see where it actually occurred. Very fun hike down the gorge and back up, as well as the rim loop. Note that we only hiked a little over 4 miles. Most of the movement was vertical. We also stopped at the lake for a picnic lunch. Access to the floor of the gorge, Stone Place and High Bluff trails was restricted due to prescribed burns. ☹🔥

Will come back for those as we really wanted a longer hike.

Wow, what a great workout - I completed the South-North Trail Loop twice and worked up the courage to make it over the suspended bridge 2xs (w a lil help from my new photographer friend, Adam)! The views are really nice but wood be even better if mother nature took just a few big limbs down, lol !! Definitely a heart pounding hike w breathe taking views!!

Awesome views, and you can stay up on the ridges, or venture down the steps to the Gorge.

Beautiful views of the Gorge and a relatively short hike, but it is pretty strenuous with all of the stairs and uphill climbing. The views of the waterfalls are gorgeous.

A spectacular view of the Tallulah Waterfall and overlooking the beautiful gorge area. A number of overviews #1 #2 short walks with incredible views. For the more daring and physical fit take the steps to the bridge and enjoy the sights and sounds ..
