Highly recommend! Met the owner today and she is amazing. Delicious desserts and great drink options. I’m not a big coffee drinker but she made me an energized Italian Soda that was sooo good. What a cute atmosphere!

Beautiful coffee shop. Very friendly staff and great place to grab a coffee and pastry. Sonos speakers playing music throughout the building and soft lighting on every table create a great atmosphere.

Skip the coffee chains and make this your coffee stop. If I could give 7 stars, I would!

The staff is friendly and helpful. The building/structure is so well done which leads to perfect ambiance/atmosphere.

I’ve had iced lattes and iced chai and both were excellent. They have non-dairy milk choices which is great. And they also have a few pastries, including gluten-free donuts from Sweet Treat without Wheat!

We haven’t been there for a music event yet, but are looking forward to doing that soon.

Slater is fortunate to have this gem of a gathering space!

This coffee house is 100% worth the visit! The atmosphere is second-to-none, with every detail being clearly hand-picked by the owners. The coffee menu and products are wonderful and the freshly baked goods (especially those almond scones and pistachio loaf!) from local bakery, Sugar High Trestle Treats, exemplify quality deliciousness. Owners, employees, and patrons are the best! 10/10 would recommend paying a visit to the cute little town of Slater for a cup of coffee and baked goods!

Cute and welcoming shop in Slater! Beautifully decorated and set up for all seasons. Loved the open air effect with the garage doors on this beautiful day! Had the bulletproof coffee with a hint of flavored cold foam 👌🏼 worth the drive from Ankeny! Check it out

I love coming to public house whenever I can! The atmosphere is so comfy and homey. Whoever is working also makes a point to keep conversations with everyone, making everyone feel so welcome! I can’t think of a better addition to our perfect little small town!

Goodness gracious, I'm sorry that I waited so long to visit Public House. It is truly a hidden gem that is worth your attention, even if it is a bit out of the way. It is easy to lose track of time amidst the early 1900's aesthetic. Atmosphere and decor are second to no other coffee shop in the des moines metro.

This is my favorite coffee shop EVER! Mel and crew are so welcoming from the moment you walk in. It feels fancy, but in the small-town way we love around here. I look forward to Friday mornings, when I can take my laptop, grab my flavor-of-the-month latte and a sweet treat, and sit down to work. It is the best office space, surrounded by friendly smiles and conversation.

The Public House is such a great place! Russ & Melodie did everything with great detail and intention; the drinks and atmosphere are excellent and I love the character of the older building they are in. Definitely recommend going here!

I'm not a coffee drinker, so I was thrilled to see my favorite hot tea blend on the menu! Also, I'm a bit of a baked goodie snob. 😉 Learning that the scones and things are baked by a local put this spot at the tippee-top of the list for best cafés! Friendly staff, amazing decor, warm atmosphere. Get out of your home office, take the drive, spend a morning working here! It's all Greater in Slater.

Gorgeous establishment owned and operated by wonderful folks! Their multitude of drink options are delicious and the food options from a local baker are absolutely awesome! The atmosphere at Public House 421 is very welcoming and is definitely a place to start your day!
