My favorite gun store in the county. Staff is helpful and friendly. They are involved in the community, last time I was in there was a concealed carry class in progress. Decent selection of all types of guns, new and used.

Great staff, great selection. Could use some more reloading components but so could most of the gun shops around these parts!

I have shopped over 100 gun stores in my lifetime. Most were good, a few great and many felt cliquish but First Defense was the absolute best. If you know something about guns or you know nothing at all, you will feel at home here. In my two visits here, staff of all ages were friendly, knowledgeable and eager to help myself and others who visited the store while I was there. Absolute top notch gun store! Thank you for the great service!

I have been to almost every Firearm store in the area. They definitely have friendly staff who know what they are talking about. The reason why they get 5 Stars over 4 stars is customer service. They care about the community and work very hard trying to keep up stock in these crazy times. I have not had an issue with anything I have purchased from there, and have always left with more knowledge than I had when I went in. They got a great team there.

My buddy and I drove over an hour to do business with this shop. Why you may ask....it's because of the great owners of a great shop with great pricing. Even at this time when others in this industry may and will take advantage of the community members, the owner maintains fair market value on his supplies. I foresee being a long time customer of this fine establishment.

This is a fabulous AR 15 shop. There is none like it on the central coast. They have the experience to help you build your gun and the selection to make it happen in a market where 'everything is out of stock'. I am building my first AR-15 for fun, and the owner is even willing to help me build it! They also have a great selection of completed rifles and handguns. You can tell that they love shooting, love their store, and they treat customers with respect (even when, like me, you don't know a darn thing).

This place is great 👍 Collin was great, great deals alot less than other places.
He even got me some milk and cookies and a foot massage while awaiting my background check.
The vip order room was great so the public doesn't see your business and what your ordering well worth the extra charges.

I am not a big gun enthusiast - my husband is. I've been to a lot of firearms shops because of this. I've gone shooting and just didn't find it fun or worth a lot of my time because of the environment.

When I walked into this place, I felt totally different. Rather than serious and imposing, the guys were super fun, down to earth, made me feel right at home. They had great pricing and guarantees for what for us was a major firearm purchase. They were straightforward, clear, and great to work with.

I now am their biggest fan. They set the standard of my experience.

I absolutely love this gun shop. They are incredibly helpful and treat you like family when you go in. Mike, Collin, Ian, and the rest of their crew do a great job helping new shooters and experience shooters have a great experience there. I recommend this shop to everyone.

Mike and Collin are awesome super nice guys. Clean shop, good prices and great service. Always willing to order what you are looking for if they can. Have bought several firearms and would not go anywhere else.

Great family run store. Actually have a ton of stock both consignment and new in box. Also quick and nice gunsmithing for non-heavy machining needs!

Awesome gun shop. Its a small shop with a lot going. Staff is real friendly and there's good info and supplies. Shop is easily accessible right off Low Osos Valley road. Easy to find. Good folks there. This is the shop or I get all my gun related accessories

This is the best firearms shop in SLO County, possibly CA. Massive inventory, great customer service.

If it was said that the people make the place they'd be talking about First defense... it's nice going to a new store and be treated like you've shopped there for 10yrs. Seems to be a father and son run business, very knowledgeable about there products and explained why an acutely cheaper part would work better for what I needed then one almost double the price. I hope they have a long and successful run

Best gun store South of the Cuesta Grade. Everyone that works here seems to understand that treating the customer respectfully is actually important. I always feel welcome in the shop. The firearm secelction in house is mostly geared towards defensive weapons (hence the name) however they have some shotguns and bolt actions rifles in stock most of the time. These guys will help you order anything you want as long as its California compliant. If I could give First Defense a 10 star rating I would.

Awesome place to shop! Most AR style rifles but they also carry bolt action, shotguns, pistols and other stuff. Great selection of Magpul accessories and parts. They carry all the little AR15 parts (springs, pins, etc). Pretty good selection variety of brands on other AR parts from Houge, BCM, Rainer Arms, etc. The owner and staff are awesome, very friendly and helpful. My favorite gun shop around!

Great staff, great selection of firearms and components. This shop is the standard that other gun shops should measure themselves against.
