SAW’s Soul Kitchen

My husband and I were passing through on a road trip and stumbled upon Saw’s Soul Kitchen. Were we glad we did! When in the south it’s important to taste and experience real BBQ.
This is just a hole in the wall place. You order at the counter and grab a table. Excellent food! It was our first good BBQ in Alabama. If I go back I’ll definitely stop there again.

I went for a walk in the park on a Sunday morning and then saw SAW’s Soul Kitchen on the way back to the car. What an incredible experience! I visited Birmingham from South Africa and thought I had the best Southern style food until I walked into SAW’s. The Grits with Greens, pulled Pork and fried onion rings was absolutely amazing!

Most CRUNCHY and delicious fried sandwich I've ever had and! The places is nicely decorated and the quality of the food is great.
Brunswick stew I'll have to try again because this time it was just ok.
Would definitely recommend this place to any one of my friends and family.

Sooooooo GOOD! Don’t judge this book by its cover… SAW’s ain’t playing! They’re serving up big southern flavors with all the skills needed to pay the bills.

We had their Pulled Pork platter.... Delicious! So tender! My two side were Fried Green Tomatoes, and the other two were Turnip Greens and Baked Beans. All were very tasty. We had Banana Pudding for dessert, yummie! We'll be back, and bank on our friends joining us. Note, tables and seating is limited.

My husband and I dined here a few days ago and it exceeded our expectations. The service was great and the food arrived at our table quickly. The greens were delicious and our meals were also great! The amount of food is worth the price. We will definitely recommend to friends and family. What we were amazed by was the pimento cheese with pepper jelly served with pork rinds. The warmth of the pork rinds and the pimento cheese was a surprisingly delicious combo. The parking situation was confusing so to eliminate that we parked across the street and walked to the restaurant which we didn’t mind because of the beautiful weather that day.

We stopped by this restaurant on a Saturday afternoon for a little snack. We got the pork and greens, fried green tomatoes, fried okra, fried corn, and banana pudding. All I can say is WOW!!! Everything the was incredible!! I could eat the fried corn and pork and greens EVERY DAY!!! If you’re looking for good BBQ this is the place to go!! I had to write this review from the parking lot. Give this place a try!! Good vibes, good drinks and GREAT FOOD!

Get the Pork n Greens. Amazing. Banana pudding was winner. Light and just the right portion.

Some of the best food in Birmingham! Came here for lunch. We were told to seat ourselves and then order ourselves at the front counter. The inside is nice and has cool decor.

Do yourself a favor and try the Sweet Tea Fried Chicken. I was deciding between the pulled pork sandwich and the sweet tea fried chicken sandwich and the employee told me the Sweet Tea Fried Chicken was their #1 best seller and after taking a bite, I instantly knew why. The outside is so crispy and perfectly fried while the inside is insanely juicy. The white sauce on top is delicious. You NEED to try this sandwich. Easily the best fried chicken sandwich I've ever had.

The pulled pork was pretty good. However, their BBQ sauce is not my favorite. I prefer a thick, sweet BBQ but SAW's BBQ sauce is more watery and vinegar tasting. We got Mac and cheese and a very generous portion of fries as the sides.

My friend also enjoyed his patty melt, which also has the white sauce in addition to a burger sauce.

I absolutely recommend this to anyone visiting Birmingham. We will be back.

The food here is delicious! We ordered the BLT, Sweet Tea Fried Chicken and Pork N’ Greens. The Chicken sandwich is juicy, seasoned well, and crunchy but not overly dipped in batter. The Pork N Greens comes with a generous amount of pork and really tasty greens. I wouldn’t complain if they added a lil more cheesy grits. This dish could be easily shared with two people. Onion rings and fried okra were also yummy. Overall, we’re glad we made a pit stop here while driving through Birmingham.

This is truly a 5 star review. So glad we got this place as a recommendation. Had the 2 meat platter with pork and 2 thighs with Mac and cheese and fries. The pork was tender and delicious. The sauce was in my top 5 favorite ever. The 2 thighs were small, but I can't describe how good they were and definitely the best I've ever had. The fries were cooked just right and had a lot of salt. The Mac and cheese was probably the best I've ever put in my mouth. Friends got fried pickles... Which were also the best I've ever had. Didn't get to try my friends other food because everyone was delightfully chowing it down, but they said it was amazing. If you are reading this, absolutely go visit. You won't be disappointed.

By far my favorite restaurant in Alabama. I travel about an hour to eat there and never even question if it’s worth the drive. Get the saw burger add polminto cheese. Awesome

Typical hole in the wall that you wouldn't look at twice as you drive by houses what I was told is the best BBQ in Birmingham. And they weren't wrong! This is a locals secret. The rustic interior suits the traditional menu so well. Order at the register and them choose a table. The service was super friendly and quick. The original pulled pork sandwich is an amazing. The pork was fork tender and deliciously seasoned. More sauce in a bottle on each table. The sweet potato fries were hot and crispy. The McEwen cheese grits were dreamy, smooth and not pasty. And the baked beans had plenty of pork in them. Delicious meal start to finish. If you want good BBQ head to Saws Soul Kitchen.

Best BBQ in a while! And, where they shine is their sides and customer service! The collard greens were a perfect combination of slightly tart and sweet, and the baked bean were unique. Both servers (I remember Jake because he made a connection with us and went out of his way to accommodate us) were down to earth, super helpful and just chatty enough. We will definitely return the next time we visit Birmingham!

Delicious burger and probably the best cheese grits I've ever had in my life.... would definitely visit again if I'm ever back in town.

First time eating here...it's most convenient to just pay for parking instead of trying to find parking on the street....food was delicious, and the service was fast....you seat yourself and then go back to the front counter to order...overall, would recommend. 👍🏾

This place is amazing. I sat at the bar and enjoyed great service and conversation with the bartenders. I ordered the pulled pork and greens over grits, side of fried pickles w creamy dill sauce, and banana pudding. Everything was delicious. This place is small but has a cozy and comfortable feel.

OMG!!! When I tell you this is the absolute BEST CHICKEN I have EVER had in my life… and being that I’ve traveled the US, grew up in the south, and have ate more fried chicken than any human being should ever eat.. this chicken.. this chicken!! After reading the reviews- I decided on the sweet tea chicken sandwich.. if ever I want fried chicken- I promise I will drive 2 hours to this restaurant after eating it! And the appetizer of FRESH fried pork rinds with homemade pimento cheese and pepper jelly- WAS TO DIE FOR!! The collards were great and the beans were good- a little more tomato-y than I like mine.. but I like mine thick and molasses like. I can’t say enough about this place. It is a MUST EAT restaurant stop in Birmingham…. Even if you are an hour away- you will not be disappointed!! Kudos on the best chicken!
