Skipper's Seafood & Smokehouse

Skipper's caught the big one with their fried seafood. They have other chicken & BBQ options, but wasn't in the mood to try those. Probably should have looked for a sampler. Oh well.

The Fried fish (Cod) and fried shrimp were spectacular. The breading was thick enough to have body without being cakey. It was all fried to a very nice crisp with good color too. The Onion Plate (onion rings with the fish sandwich) were in-house battered and cooked to the same perfection as the cod. Not usually a big fan of coleslaw, but theirs was pretty darn good. Shredded very fine with a little bit of sweetness in the dressing and not watery.

The servings are generous especially if you add a side of shrimp to your sandwich plate. I ended up having to take the sandwich home. Cooked in the air-fryer, it was pretty good on day two.

came in for dinner and had fried fish sandwich, brisket, ribs, and fried shrimp sandwich. both sandwiches were delicious and not greasy at all!

the brisket and ribs were a tad dry but the flavor was great. the hush puppies were delicious as well.

I knew the food was gonna eat the second we walked in and it definitely did not disappoint. Aside from the music being played, some country music and even Israel Kamakawiwoʻole, the restaurant held a respectably muted atmosphere. The place wasn’t busy, but based off of the reviews and the food itself, it should be.

The blonde guy working at the front in the red shirt was super helpful. He showed my mom pictures of the cod in the fish and chips order (thicker) vs. the cod in the seafood platter order (thinner) and helped her figure out what she wanted to eat. He even walked our order over to us even though we were like 12 feet away from the front counter. He didn’t skimp on the sauce either. We got 6 malt vinegar packets, 4 tartar sauce packets, and 4 cocktail sauce packets (which I mixed together). He was very sweet.

We ordered:
1 Banana Pudding
1 Peach Cobbler
Single Seafood Platter with Shrimp (excellent)
Fries (Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Some were a bit dry, but keep them wrapped until you’re ready to eat them and that won’t happen.)
A side of shrimp (also excellent)
One fish and chips (mom loved hers).

My seafood platter lasted me 3 meals, my peach cobbler only 1 (it’s better that way).

Synopsis: We will be back. The prices are relatively cheap (for the amount of food you’re getting) which is hard to find nowadays, the service was great but not all-in-your-face enthusiastic which is a breath of fresh air, and the food is cheat meal worthy. The only reason you shouldn’t go to Skipper’s Seafood is if you’re allergic to seafood! If not, you have no excuse. Take the 10-15 minute drive and get yourself some good food!!🍤🍤

I have a picture of the cobbler, but my camera doesn’t do it any justice so I’m leaving it out.

Jambalaya was really great (though the bowl was a small portion still), and so were the fish and chips. We have been here before and had brisket and chicken too, which were superb. The always seem to be out of turkey and/or ribs though! The staff were super nice and the interior was themed well too, a kind of fast-premium seafood restaurant. Drop ceilings were the only real drawback on atmosphere but it's common enough to have those, it was fine. Try them out! We are repeats here.

The food was good. I enjoyed the brisket and peach cobbler the most.

What wonderful find! In Apex, Carolina Skippers offers great Seafood and BBQ. I was pleased with the Grilled Fish Tasco, Cod fish platter followed by amazingly smoked Brisket and Ribs. I highly recommend Skippers if you're in the area! Like 👍 and follow for more reviews!

Great atmosphere. Feels like it’s ran by a family.

I consider myself pretty fussy on food but the brisket and onion rings were the best I've had so far. Portion sizes were larger than average. There's fountain drinks (pepsi products) that you can help yourself to, and beside the food being brought to the table, you pretty much take care of cutlery and condiments yourself. The brisket and onion rings will have me coming back and I was told the large shrimp and chicken tenders were delicious too!
The shrimp came with hush puppies. The fries and onions rings were sides (add-ons).

Came here because we just happened to hear they have brisket, and was completely blown away at how amazing the food was. Hands down, the most surprised I’ve been at a restaurant since moving to North Carolina 3 months ago. I wasn’t expecting much, but the brisket was phenomenal, and wasn’t overtaken with fat like most brisket I’ve had at restaurants. I think the price is the best bang for your buck in town. The portions are great and the flavor. For less than $20 you can’t beat it.

I've lived in Apex for 10 years and I just recently started going here in the past year and it has become my favorite place in Apex!

Food is excellent. I love their smoked chicken, green beans, and hush puppies.

Service is great. Friendly staff. Management must be great because everybody seems to be in a good mood.

I like them so much that I recently had them cater a big party I had at my house. Affordable and they made it easy on me.

I was pleasantly surprise by the menu and food at Skippers. After a bad meal a few years ago I have not been back until this week. What a difference! Great menu, order at the counter then pick up and take it to your table. I had Cod fried with beer batter and fries which was good. They might have called this fish and chips. Next time I might try shrimp or catfish etc.

Pretty darn good. Not super healthy, though. Everything was hot and freshly made for us.
I had oysters, lightly breaded, plump and juicy with a side of hush puppies. But I think we ordered some of everything! Very clean restaurant and super friendly staff.

Great experience every time when I place online order. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for delicious homemade food. Better to place online order in my opinion too! Keep you the great work Skippers Seafood and Smokehouse staff and owner 😊 me and my family found a new gem you don’t wanna miss out on!

Great place I just discovered based on my neighbor suggestion, wow we were impressed by service, food and atmosphere, to top it off manager Michael is so friendly and even checking how the order and food was satisfactory. Definitely will make this our pit stop. Food was excellent and place is warm inviting and clean. Best atmosphere to rest and have a healthy meal at reasonable price. See you at Skipper's.

Love this local spot! The owner and staff are the sweetest people and make me want to give them my business. The fried seafood is great, as well as the sides and dipping sauces. I personally have not tried the BBQ since this has always been my go to for seafood before they added the BBQ. I would imagine it’s good as well though.

Always love coming here! Since I was a kid, it’s not that far from my home town of Durham. One of the best seafood places still around! Staff is very friendly and courteous!

The food is great. The fish sandwich is stupid huge and fantastic. The hushpuppies and slaw are good too. On the day we went there was a stinky smell at the back of the dining room so we sat up front.

Yummy! Fried fish and chip basket was chefs kiss.

I tried to wait until l got home but the Beef Brisket had my mouth watering. No side no bun just absolutely the BEST Brisket ever...Juicy, tender, and the flavor in that bark is insane and yes this is a fish restaurant but Chef James has the smokers touch...and yes the fish is amazing also, try the Tacos!!! And the fish samich, and the lobster bisque....so many great options.... just had another amazing visit and this food dont miss!!!

Nice place for seafood. They have added BBQ since the last time I visited. Pretty good. Generous portions as well
