We are native New Mexicans and we stopped in here during our travels. YES!!! This is not New Mexican cuisine but very Mexican cuisine! We had the costillas ribs and 5 stars!!! Honestly the best refried beans I’ve ever had. The rice is a white, buttery Spanish rice. Delish! Daughter had the kids quesadilla and she ate the whole thing. Son had the Efrains burrito and he had no bad feedback. Salsa is very liquidy but so good! The place is a bit dated. It was super busy as it was Saturday night, but wait time was spot on for what we were told. Employees are hard working. Bartender has a HEAVY pour and drinks are cheap! We overheard MANY locals come in and chat it up with staff (which is a good sign). The only thing that could have been better was if they had homemade tortillas and they don’t offer flan any more. Overall we loved it! Give it a try!

Nice neighborhood Mexican place. Friendly staff. Good chips and salsa, sweet barely-taste-the-alcohol marg and yummy chile rellenos. Nothing killer spicy. Next time I'd get them with beans and rice. The red sauce was yummy, also would make great enchiladas. Not many options for vegetarians, nachos, cheese enchiladas, and chili rellenos were the main non-meat dishes, maybe tacos too, but that's enough for me 🌮 would recommend!

Family owned business and it is fantastic!
Expect to be there for a bit it is very very popular especially on the weekends.
We always sit outside because it is delightful under the big tree.
The servers are very busy but kind.

This has to be my favorite place for Mexican! I almost always get the Efrain Burrito. What’s in it who knows? Basically you are just trusting the chef to make you a tasty burrito and I have never been disappointed! I like it because you always get something different. Another great dish is the chimichanga!

I have been coming here for years and years and I love it so much. I honestly can’t get myself to order anything different, I'm that person, I love what I get there which has always been the chili verde plate. Their margs are great, simple, which is what I love. The staff has been there for forever which is awesome! You get to know everyone! Love it!

My family and I found our new favorite restaurant in Lafayette last night!
Great food at reasonable prices
The server was friendly and kind.
We will definitely be back again to try something else from the excellent menu.

For years the few time I'm in Lafayette I've drove past the his restaurant not expecting much, however to my surprise their Chile verde is quite authentic, supposedly according to their scale of spiciness it's the hottest; that's actually sub base line for me. So yo me I hardly felt it was spicy,however the ingredients were fresh and the flavors very traditional home style Chile verde.

I rarely s El home style growing up in a home where meals were made from scratch daily I often crave something different, perhaps innovative even if not authentic also because if it's homestyle it will most likely not compare and don't expect to compare a restaurant being that it's completely different scale and atmosphere.

However this Chile verde tastes as if your grandma or mother made it with love!

A very old school and quaint local scene...one that I love and frequent almost weekly. The authentic recipes (aka NOT chimichangas) like rellenos are great. The margaritas are strong. And the carpet is gross. Think a "dive bar"-- especially the actual bar area-- of Mexican restaurants. But. The service, people, and people watching make it so much fun in my opinion. People know and remember you. Even if your strong margarita makes it difficult to remember them. :)

Been a fan and have been going to Efrain's for over 15 yrs. years now. However, there's always a 1st time for everything. That said, we ate in the library room for the first time on Monday! I didn't even know this room existed! Per their delicious usual, Efrain's did not disappoint. I ordered my go-to; the green chile burrito with a side of potatoes, soo good!! Service was also top-notch, as were the margaritas!

Traditional Mexican American flavors with a great staff and appropriate beer selection.

I had (can't remember the name) but a steak topped with roasted vegetables rice and beans. The plate was huge and tasted amazing. The perfect cook on the steak and deep flavorful sides / toppings.

I liked it. Affordable, good portions, fun atmosphere. Nothing fancy to see here but I see why it’s lasted so long.

Authentic and delicious food, great service, very friendly staff. This restaurant has been here for many years, I was 13yrs. old when first went, now I am 50.

About the best Mexican around. The Mexican ribs are a spicy treat, we're talking hot. They don't skimp on tequila in their margaritas either. And, bet reasonably priced

Pork green chili plate is STUPENDOUS! Save room, don't eat too many chips while waiting... And the fries are a MUST HAVE !!!. You'll be back for more...

The other reviews aren’t wrong in regards to the pork green chili. The spice level on the menu was concerning 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶, so I opted for a quesadilla smothered in the chili verde. Next time, I’ll skip the quesadilla and go straight for the bowl. Best green chili I’ve had since moving to Colorado! Margs are cheap and strong, too.

This is our “go to” for Mexican Food. The green chili is out of this world! Andrea, Lilo, Natalie are always attentive and lively. The Efrains burrito is the way to go (you better be adventurous and LOVE green chili) and always a very loaded pitcher of the house marg. Perfect date for my hubs and I.

Food was very good. Meat practicly melted in my mouth. Perfectly cooked. And the prices are low. Very good authentic Mexican food.

Fantastic service, delicious food in a California Mexican style. Just what I wanted. Instead of trendy places with tiny portions, great portions, attentive service, and nice outdoor seating.
