My wife I recently had the pleasure of dining at Black Bear Diner, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a cozy meal.

A special shoutout to Art the manager, whose attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction truly stood out. It’s clear that they take pride in creating a welcoming environment for all guests.

Our server, Claudette, was an absolute gem! Her friendly demeanor and extensive knowledge of the menu made our dining experience even better. She was attentive without being intrusive, ensuring that our drinks were always filled and that we had everything we needed. Claudette's recommendations were spot-on, and her passion for the food really shone through.

The food itself was delicious—comforting classic diner fare that hits the spot every time. We left feeling satisfied and eager to return. We highly recommend Black Bear Diner, not just for the fantastic food, but also for the outstanding service provided by Claudette and the entire team. Can't wait for my next visit!

First time eating at this place. My sister has told me about this place and have seen reviews online, the staff was very attentive, great service and great food. The prices were good for the size of plate and sides/drinks. Right off the expressway. Was not packed, Will definitely be going back 🔜.

Food was excellent! Not all places have Grits and Black Bear does and they are tasty, the server Deana was spot on with service really attentive, and considerate. Good experience overall really relaxing.

LOVED the service. Big portions. That chicken fried steak was 🤤.

Becky our server was fun, friendly and quick to assist us with our needs. Although she had a few tables she still provided the best customer service.

It never disappoints! Everything was delicious, the coffee was hot and the staff was friendly and accommodating. Pictured is The Volcano (2 eggs, 3 pancakes [i asked for fruit n coolwhip), 2 slices of bacon, 2 sausage links).

We went on a Saturday morning around 10 AM. The wait was a bit less than 15 minutes. Becky was our waitress she was very attentive, nice and respectful. We never had to look for her since she was always checking in on us making sure we had everything we needed. For food we ordered The Grizz, classic French toast, and sprinkle cakes (off the kids menu). For drinks we had coffee, water and orange juice. The plates were huge, my sibling and I shared the grizz and French toast. We had leftovers to take home and left FULL. During the meal, the grizzly bear mascot came and we were able to take pictures with it. It was such a nice and cute thing to enjoy while you’re eating. Throughout the meal the manager, Art, came twice to ask if we needed anything. He was also very kind and informative. He said they bring out the mascot based on the amount of people in the restaurant and if there are a decent amount of kids. He also said typically they will have a 2 hour wait, are open 365 days a year including holidays like Christmas and have a weekly M-F special for 6.99. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner all day from 6:00-10:00. The atmosphere is very rustic and homey. They also have a little shop at the entrance that is bear theme. I would definitely go again. Way better than ihop or dennys.

Me and my mom came here for some breakfast, and it was amazing! The servers were really friendly and patient. I got seasonal pancakes, which are blue berries and my mom got classic egg Benedict and both were equally delicious. I got apple juice and she got coffee the server always kept her coffee nice and warm! Their menus are really nice, it’s a newspaper style and had info on the diner and the menu.

We asked our good friends out to dinner, our treat, but they had to pick the restaurant. They picked Olive Garden. So off we went, and on the way, the conversation started up about this Black Bear restaurant, which is close to Olive Garden, and always wanted to try it. Left turn, Clyde! WHAT A GREAT CHOICE IT WAS!! I'm thinking, I just walked into a restaurant in Ely Minnesota, don't ya know. This is a WINTER TEXANS place to go, and if ya haven't been here, by all means, go there. Loved it even the menus are unique. The food was wonderful and reasonably priced. They have their own APP you can download and order and deliver. Thanks for a wonderful evening, Black Bear! We will be back so will our friends.

First time eating there and my father and I had a great breakfast. Over all it was great and I will go again sometime I'm in McAllen. My only complaint is that I asked that my shredded hash browns be well done but they didn't do it. I had no time to send them back. It's my preference and most other breakfast places do this for me and others. I recommend this restaurant!

The restaurant is an experience in itself. It has the feel of a theme park restaurant where everything is thought out. The place is meant to look like a log cabin. The menus are newspapers the food is comfort food.
I had the chicken fried steak, and I enjoyed it. I also had the cobbler with ice cream. I highly recommend both.
The menu is really big, so I plan to go back and try other offerings.
Oh, and they serve breakfast all day. I totally plan to go back. :)

First time eating here. The greeting was warm and genuine. The menu is actually in newspaper format and there were so many choices. I was really hungry so I ordered the Grizzly? It was a large chicken fried steak with 3 eggs prepared your choice, thick-cut hash-browns, and either a couple of large pancakes or a couple of biscuits. I was not prepared for the biscuits. They were HUGE! I could not finish this order. You should visit. The restaurant is clean and the service is excellent.

Ample and savory. Although took a minute to come out, worth the wait. Sausage patty has a little kick to it. Nice place for a family meal.

This is indeed (one if not) the best American restaurant south of San Antonio.
Food is done to perfection, atmosphere is great & above all the service is spectacular.
Since the moment you walk in, you get greeted with a warm welcoming smile.
This will be my favorite place to be.

We visited for the third time on Father’s Day. We were able to sit at the bar top and got to witness just how hard the cooks work. The restaurant was incredibly busy, which is common, but the cooks worked seamlessly together with each other and the wait staff. The food is always delicious and the wait staff is also very friendly. Please exercise patience if you are visiting during a busy time. Great food takes time to prepare. Can’t wait to come back again!

The service is good and the food is pretty good. I love their thick cut bacon. I ordered a breakfast combo and asked for over medium eggs and got over easy. The eggs hardly cooked on the grill and the hashbrowns were basically boiled and not crispy at all.

This place I must say is one of the best restaurants I've ever been too. The atmosphere and employees was wonderful and amazing customer service! The food may be a bit pricey but the portion is worth it! The burgers were amazing! It may be a bit messy but it was delicious! We also had the broccoli and cheese soup which was soothing. The place is a 10/10

Tried out Black Bear for the first time and it was delicious! The breakfast portions were pretty big, unable to finish it.. the kids loved their bear pancakes and best of all, the service! Our server Shantel was awesome! Perky attitude, friendly, very attentive -constantly checked up on us to make sure we didn’t need anything. We will definitely be back. :)

Service was good, met a nice young man named Richard. He prepared the meatloaf plate, delicious. The waitresses were busy due to the restaurant being crowded. He came around the back kitchen area and helped out. The restaurant was clean and tidy. Highly recommend this place.
