The Hatch

Food was great. We ordered spicy crunchy shrimp and that was great, not spicy but had a small kick. I ordered a Cajun salmon and shrimp with baked Mac and mashed potato’s. It was really good. Not super a huge Cajun flavor but it hit the spot. Maria and Lo were great servers. They really took care of us and were super personable. Made us feel super welcomed as we are just visiting.

I got a breakfast bowl with grilled chicken it was delicious! You tasted everything and all the flavors!! The chicken ceases wrap was also good we did add bacon for some crunchiness!! The cranberry lemon mimosa is something you should try always!! Our server Taylor was amazing she was attentive and was always checking on us throughout the meal. This little place is definitely a place to come to and enjoy some good food!! Would definitely be coming back!

I passed this place quite a few times with no idea of this gem being hidden in the wide open. I had the privilege of dining in and being served by Maria who was extremely helpful and truthfully made my experience that much more enjoyable. The night before I had ordered and took my food with me. This night I decided to dine in.

Everything was on point! You need to find yourself there as soon as you can. Great ambiance. Delicious Food and Charming staff.

I had the Catfish, Fried Chicken, Greens (fresh and not overcooked) Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, hush puppies, chicken and waffles, soul rolls, banana pudding and look forward to visiting again to try the other dishes.

I've been there 3 times and have found them to be consistent, so 5 stars across the board for me.

Our waiter was Xelyna & she was super sweet! The margaritas taste amazing & they were able to accommodate not adding bacon on our eggs. the beans definitely tasted too smokey but the energy was pure here! If you like your fish on the crisper side, make sure to request it! would definitely recommend!

Stopped in first night for linner - only place open. How lucky for us! So good we came back the next night.
Fried chicken is great. Chicken and pastry is tasty too. Meatloaf - you name it off the menu and it was fantastic. Collard greens so good you will want to slap your mama for not making them like this.
With any luck you’ll get Nikki who explained menu items and kept our tea topped off. She was very attentive.

This place has the seasoning right. I came from an old-school southern cooking family. This right here is the closest I've been to her cooking since she passed 20 years ago. I mean we're still talking about it 4 months later and plan on traveling back just to eat there again. If I was a local I would make close friends with the owner just so I could go to his house on holidays. Look, do yourself a favor and go to this place. Order the fried green tomatoes for me. The collards will make you not want to eat anything else. The chicken was juicy and seasoned right. Thank you for the great experience and the unbelievable food. You truly made our vacation to Roanoke with it.

Surf and turf grits were incredible! Chunky delicious pieces of the lobster tail fell out of the shell and the meat was bright and buttery sweet. Shrimp texture was perfect, lamb chops had a delicious seasoning and were nicely seared. Grits were chef's kiss. Our waiter, Romans, was so polite and accommodating! We sat outside and enjoyed a sunny day taking in downtown Roanoke. Overall a really great experience!

A friend and I enjoyed brunch on the outside patio at The Hatch this morning and it was a great experience from start to finish! Dusty was our server and she was so friendly, personable and gave us fantastic service. The food was fresh, hot and came out quickly. Highly recommend for a great brunch experience!!

Excellent customer service! Everyone was very friendly and eusthatic last Sunday. The cocktails were really good and fun. The chicken sandwich was amazing! Lots of flavor and pretty big. I was a little disappointed that the amount of fries I received was a bit skimpy. Overall I was very pleased with my lunch.

Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Parking can be scarce on the weekends.

This place was an awesome surprise! The staff are great and very welcoming! We were traveling with our dog and it’s a pet friendly establishment so that was a plus. The food was amazing and cooked perfectly with lots of flavor. The H.A.T.C.H cocktail was perfectly balanced and very refreshing. If I ever find myself in Roanoke again I’d definitely come back to The Hatch! Signed “absolutely stuffed”

Romans was amazing. He gave great advice on picking drinks and food for brunch date. I will definitely come back and have his service again. On side note the drinks and food never disappoints when here eating. Thanks for a lovely time.

The Hatch is amazing!! Our server, Dusty, had the sweetest personality and made great recommendations from the menu. We were visiting from out of town and had read great reviews about the brunch at The Hatch, and they were not wrong! We sat on the patio and had a great experience all-around. You will not be disappointed.

The Hatch was extremely welcoming, friendly, affordable and the food was delicious! As Brits visiting we felt really comfortable and our host Xelyna accommodated to all our needs and was just lovely. We enjoyed the fried pork chops and The Heat burger. A shame we are only in Roanoke for one evening because we would want to come back and try the fall off the bone ribs the other customers were enjoying! Thanks guys.

“The Hatch” food is incredible. I had the ribs and shrimp with collard greens and Mac and cheese. Best collards I have had since moving to Virginia from South Carolina 30 years ago. Mac and cheese amazing . Ribs were falling of the bone.
Portion size according to price was modest but I happily paid. I was very content. OH don’t even get me started on the extra side of hush puppies I order. Those things were off the hook.
I’d gladly go back.

It was a great experience from beginning to end. First we were greeted and seated with a warm welcome from Olive. After being seated, my family and I was cared for by Hannah! Hannah’s attentiveness was top notch. She was very knowledgeable about the menu.

I’ve been here a few times on business lunches and Nevaeh is the best server I’ve had. The food is always amazing and the manager is cool. All of the servers were kind but Nevaeh is best overall, highly recommend if you are downtown Roanoke.

Traveling through and didn't know the area. A quick search for local restaurants presented the opportunity to enjoy all that this fantastic restaurant has to offer.

The staff hustled, but were very attentive without being intrusive. We enjoyed talking with Shy, our waitress. She was great! She was everywhere: taking orders, bartending, welcoming new customers, etc. All with a smile.

It was nice to hear that the owner is an active owner, there every morning prepping food for the day. It makes a difference not only in the food but in the staff as well.

Ok, so onto the food review....

Deviled eggs as an appetizer?!? Who does that? But as my girlfriend focuses on a higher protein diet, we were like, "let's give them a try, they look good."

Ok, they weren't good, they were phenomenal. Seriously, best deviled eggs ever! Don't hesitate to try them. Bacon topped, just slightly sweet but balanced with mustard filling, all nestled on a spoonful of magical remoulade that had a little sweet with a little heat, but not overbearing heat. All with a sprinkling of seasoning that was hard to pinpoint, but so delicious. Possibly something like Meat Church honey bacon BBQ seasoning. SO GOOD!

My GF got the fried chicken w/pimento cheese sandwich without the bun. The plating was very nice, not just thrown on a plate like what often happens when you ask for no bun. She raved about the flavor as well. The pickles for the sandwich were excellent, I believe they said they were homemade.

I had the chicken fried chicken with gravy. I expected a traditional white gravy, but it was more orange and delicious! The collard greens were excellent and the Mac and cheese was cheesy, but not heavy. The cornbread was mildly sweet and super moist. Really good!

Drinks were great, and dessert was even better. We had to take dessert to go, we were stuffed! The strawberry crunch was really good, the crunch wasn't very crunchy by the time we got to it. No fault of the restaurant. The banana pudding was creamy and light, almost whipped. So good!

The prices were very reasonable. We were surprised that it wasn't more. Sure we indulged in a couple drinks and the desserts, but if you are on a budget, you could happily get out of there for $20-$25 a piece including an app and tip. Being on vacation, we were a little more than double that, but we splurged and took leftovers and dessert with us.
