The Scrappy Elephant

This place is such a gem and the staff is amazing. We had a rainy Saturday art day and the kids and I spent 3 hours making art! All the supplies are provided and it was quite affordable. Thank you!

Scrappy Elephant is the brainchild of an amazing person, and her vision is reality PLUS. The class that I took was lots of fun, the instructor knew her stuff and knew how to help us know her stuff too. Learned a lot, the time FLEW by. Would definitely do another class at SE, fun, and a terrific value too. AND I have a nice piece to show for it!

So great for a day off of school with the kids and cousins!! Highly recommend studio time for great hands on play. We will be back!

I love shopping at the Scrappy Elephant and they have cool classes that you can sign up for to learn more about a craft and have some fun. They are very involved in the community and are always giving back to non profits and/or collecting something for those in need.

Love the class, teacher and the manner in which it has raised my excitement for sewing. Great small group beginner class.

This place is a wonderland for crafts. I find amazing finds every time I go! I have found some of the most amazing discontinued yarn from them. The prices are affordable and unbeatable. Thank you Scrappy for being so awesome!

In a word, fabulous! The Scrappy Elephant is a small but well stocked creative reuse center where you can find everything from yarn to books to found objects to creative pieces from local artists. In addition to supporting sustainability through reuse, they also enrich the community through events for all ages, a small maker space, support for other non-profits, and a little free library. Rather than a traditional shop format, here you choose a size of bag, put in whatever you like, and then pay based on the bag size (with the exception of some specialty items and locally made art/crafts). There will be something amazing to find every day, and every purchase helps create better opportunities for the community and the planet!

Always a little treasure trove of goodies and the staff is super friendly. I mainly stop by to donate, but always love to shop and end up picking up a few things.

As someone who has WAY too many craft supplies, I love being able to donate here and know they’ll be accessible and available to more folks.

They also have some recycling streams available to them, so scraps of fabric and yarn can be recycled.

Very interesting store which keeps things for going into the landfill while providing crafters with an affordable alternative for craft supplies.

The store has yarns, leather remnants books etc.

Such a great creative reuse center, I have really enjoyed taking a few classes here too, it is a wonderful part of the community doing a super job of looking out for Mother Earth!

I took a class on how to make Mandalas. Everyone and everything was excellent! I love that they use repurposed items. I highly recommend the Scrappy Elephant!

Such a fun shop! A little bit of everything, and the by-the- bag pricing is great. I found yarn, knitting needles, embroidery kits and fabric and patterns books, all fit into the large reusable bag I bought for $25, and refills are only $20. I definitely will come back here!

One of the greatest stores in Charlottesville. I always find something that delights me. Scrappy has saved me $1000's of dollars in my art practice. I am getting ready to paint with kids at Camp Hope and many of my supplies are from Scrappy. I love Sarah (the owner). She always has a warm greeting for me and steers me toward wonderful treasures. My grandchildren love it too.

Scrappy and the team there is so great! You’ll never know what treasure you’ll find when you stop in, and the studio space is super fun and casual too.

She was friendly and took the time to go through all the steps to knitting the scarf. I had a really good time.

Wow wow wow! We're so excited that this store just opened near us. It's a treasure trove of craft supplies - knitting, crochet, haberdashery, drawing, painting, scrapbooking - and all for so cheap, too. I'm always a little dubious that I'll find what I'm looking for (isn't it just old scrap ends that other people didn't want?) but every time I've found what I've wanted and then filled the bag with so many other things that will come in useful for future projects. It's so worth a trip if you craft or want to pick up a craft - you won't be disappointed!

I'm a junk/art journalist. I LOVE this place. It's so helpful when you have specific projects and need to find things to match! I got a $7 bag that I feel is worth $50+ retail value. And I got a button to donate .50cents to a local organization.
