Big Y World Class Market

We visit Old Lyme every year from out of state - this year happened to land on the week of my daughters 4th birthday. She wanted a mermaid cake, so I called to order ahead and the woman on the phone was lovely, but did not over-promise anything. When I picked this cake up, it was a WORK OF ART. My daughter gave the baker a huge hug, and everyone was so impressed with this cake. The bakery went above and beyond for this cake, and it was absolutely delicious to boot. My heart was full knowing they put so much love into a cake for a complete stranger. I would give these folks way more than 5 stars if I could!

The store is clean and well stocked. The aisles are well marked so it’s easy to find what you’re looking for. The prices are usually pretty good. There’s both self checkout and staffed checkout. Plenty of parking and easy to locate.

Shopped at big y this morning the parking lot had trash dumped in lot. When entering store I met the manager and I mention the mess in parking lot. He apologized and when I left there were 2 two managers were cleaning the parking lot. My concerns were immediate addressed and were being cleaned up. Kudos to that manager for addressing the problem

This may be the nicest grocery store in New London county. It's spacious and the produce section is beautifully stocked. Their lettuce selection alone is a tad ridiculous. In addition to a hot bar, they have their own version of a Subway where you can get fresh grinders made. They also serve "fresh" pizza. And lastly, in the bakery, they have a to-go coffee station! Many grab and go options for the possible tourist.

Your paper bags are terrible! Handles ripped off one bag as I tried to place it in the cart. And another one completely ripped in half as I was putting the groceries in the car!

By far the best grocery store in New England. The manager here always goes out of his way to be helpful to his staff and the customers. Whenever I shop here I feel as if the kindness and courtesy of a Chick-fil-A has been channeled through each staff person. As a side note, the pizza that is made onsite is better than anyone else around... And when the gentleman with the ponytail is making the pizza it rivals Pepe's in New Haven.... And only for $10.99

I don't think I've ever left a review for a grocery store before, but this Big Y deserves it! We were a bit scattered-brained the few days before our wedding. I accidentally left some groceries for the family cookout at the register after paying for them. First, the store manager came out to the parking lot to look for us. Then, another bag turned up, and the customer service desk called us personally after looking up my cell from my Big Y Silver Savings Card (get this, by the way). Since they couldn't hold the veggies overnight, I was able to come the next day and pick comparable weights of produce without buying everything again. What an awesome store! We even ended up buying our table decorations in the flower department!

Such a great selection and customer service is excellent. Love the pre-made meals in the bags that you can find damn near the meat counter. Delicious and affordable if you are cooking for one or two people.

I did my grocery weekly shopping on Saturday and to my disappointment there were only two registers with cashiers yet all the self serve registers were open. I spend up to $250.00 weekly and the last thing I want to do is take all the time scanning items and bagging them.

I enjoy shopping at the Big Y in Old Lyme because it is one of the smaller stores they have and one of the friendliest for sure! The location in Old Saybrook is very new and very large. They have a slightly larger selection than other stores and a very busy food on the go counter. If you have a choice between shopping at Big Y or Stop and Shop, Big Y is hands down the better choice all around. Happy shopping folks!

Lived in Old Lyme for two years. The staff at this Big Y were always helpful and friendly and went out of their way to give great service. Great prices and a good selection of meat and fish. I recommend it.

William (head cashier) has helped me multiple times when I’ve requested assistance finding an item in the store- I saw him again today and he was as friendly and professional as always. A note needed to be made of how great of an employee he truly is!
