Valbona - Theth Hiking Trail

The hike is amazing and really beautifull! Though it is very crowded, people are very nice to each other, cheering and encouraging. Would suggest theth to valbona because theth beginning is very steep!! So first part very heavy climbing but after that a nice downhill.
Most people do this hike in 7 hours with break. We did it in 4, both really fit. Use proper hikingshoes for grip and take a daybackpack with lunch and snacks and a bottle of water. There are sport where you can fill your bottle with water again!

amazing well worth the hike I would skip the crazy logistics of combing lake Komani, Shkodër and a hike all in one. Much better book yourself a few nights in beautiful Theth village and hike up to the pass and back as this is the best part of this trail. It is 1.5 to 2.5 hours up depending on your fitness level, much quicker down but be carefull on gravel as it is a steep hike. That way you will stay in the nice place where you can do many other day hikes from easy Blue Eye to more demanding like Peja summit.
Lastly you will have all your stuff with you, no need to worry about luggage or god forbid using the poor horses to take your backpacks across.

Very cool hike and a must do when visting Valbone and/or Theth.
Some parts are quite steep, especially coming from Theth, but the views are amazing during the hike. There are some places on the hike where you can stop for drinks and food, but best to bring water along on the hike.

Absolutely stunning from start to finish. Well marked and medium difficult. If you travel in the summer be prepared to meet a lot of hikers along the way. Bring good footwear, snacks and - especially in the summer - enough water. You can fill your water supplies on several spots with clean spring water along the way, so 1l to start was enough for me.

I recommend taking the morning bus from Shkodra to Komani Lake (Hostel staff is always helpful with booking the trip for you). There you take the ferry (~3h) to Fierze where you get picked up by Minibus to Valbona (total cost is 22€). Ask your Hostel or Hotel in Shkodra to store your luggage for the two nights and travel light.

Spend the night in Valbona and start the hike early in the morning. Spend the night in Theth (I recommend booking a Guesthouse with dinner - Theth doesn't have a lot of good restaurants) and ask your hosts to reserve a Minibus to take you back to Shkodra the next morning.

This is a trip you will remember for a long time.

Moderate trail that took us 3/4 of the day (we made also some side trips to the peaks from the Valbona Pass). Views are astonishing. It is a really nice experience.

Awesome hiking! From valbone To Theth we did it in 5 hours. First hour is amazing, view is incredible. Then we had 2 hours climbing up, you can rest in different peaks but it’s the heaviest part of the hiking. After 3 hours you arrive to the main peak, view is astonishing!! And 2 hours climbing down, as demanding as the rise but faster.
Very recommended hiking!! 🎉 do it on you own rhythm but don’t hesitate because is unbelievable the view, the nature and fresh air.

We found the hike from Valbona to Theth quite easy and enjoyable. The first part of the hike is a little bit annoying since you’re walking on a dead, rocky riverbed which was a little painful for the feet (I’d imagine making a trail through the forest would be doable but what do I know), once this part is done the hike is quite nice and easy. There’s a few cafes, bars and restaurants along the way. Some are friendly, some are not so friendly, but I guess that’s what happens when you have so many tourists coming through. We also did the hike back from Theth to Valbona and this was more difficult as it is a lot steeper for the first half of the hike. Nonetheless, the natural scenery is well maintained without garbage and the trails are quite easy and safe to follow.

Did Theth - Valbona peak - Theth as a day hike for convenience as we had our hire car in Theth. As of 1st May, snow affecting around last hour of hike up from Theth to peak, we did in road running shoes which was just about manageable, but would recommend shoes with good grip!

Very nice hike! For a very authentic and rustic experience, I recommend staying in Rragam at one of the few guesthouses not listed online (they don't have internet). We stayed at guesthouse Lindi and were welcomed by Drita, her sister-in-law and their two husbands. They truly made us disconnect and immerse ourselves into the rural life for one day. They work very hard to keep their mini farm going (pigs, cow, chickens, beehives, many crops...) and I was happy to be welcomed there. It also saved us a good hour of hike the next day, their house being the last guesthouse on the trail toward Teth. It was the highlight of our trip <3

This is an amazing trail of you are in the Theth area it is a must do!!! If you are leaving a campervan in Theth we would recommend hiking to the peak and returning to the van, this worked well for us!

Essential tip: Start the hike from Valböne rather than Theth. Occasionally a caterpillar bodied, flying, beast babushka makes baba ghanoush out of the village of Theth. Firing golden beams of fire from its lazy eyes. You can get a really good view of this from Valböne peak (about 3 hours from the entrance at a leisurely pace)

Wow a stunning trail of medium difficulty with awesome landscapes which does require a little motivation. You can find springs on the road which will refresh and recharge your batteries for the rest of the journey.
