Cervecera Tierra y Libertad

After a month touring around the four corners of Costa Rica, and trying the craft beer of about a dozen of the many brewers here I'm more impressed than I was the day I stopped by Tierra y Libertad for a taste and tour. Wonderful friendly owners who are well steeped in their trade have put together some really excellent beers. I can't claim to know every beer in the country, but this place is my favorite hands down. Bring a growler (and cash 😉) you'll want to take some with you.

Jaime and Natalie are so gracious and passionate about their microbrews, and they take great pleasure in sharing their slightly unusual approaches. A wonderful couple happy to share a personalized tour and tasting. A beer appreciators dream.

I didn’t expect to find a place like this in Costa Rica. Cervecera Tierra y Libertad is a true microbrewery with incredible and creative beers. We had a flight that included a saison with ginger and coconut, a Belgian triple with orange and coriander seed, and a piña colada IPA. I am not a fruit in beer guy but Nat and Jaime use fresh ingredients with subtlety that works in harmony with their incredible beer providing delicate tasting notes. All the beers we had were superb, easily matching or beating many microbreweries back in the USA.
Nat and Jaime also sat and talked with us, telling their story, a bit about Puerto Viejo, and so much more. The relaxed conversation and environment made me feel like I was visiting old friends who happened to brew incredible beer.
They were kind enough to accommodate us when we stopped by but call or message them to setup a time to come by so they know you are coming.

Exceptional hosts! Husband and wife are extremely friendly and accommodating. Beer is delicious! Highly recommend to go enjoy a flight and spend some time talking to some locals.
