A beautiful waterfall at the end of a short trail. There is a rather difficult trail to the top where the "Golden Nugget" is. The view from the top is spectacular.

The most trees I’ve seen next to a waterfall in Iceland! Beautiful short hike and well maintained.

3 hikes are listed from the departure - the longest one is a 3km loop. All start with a very steep climb, be prepared to climb up the cliff in a direct line. Once you are above, it gets easier and it's a nice walk close to the lake. The climb down is also a bit challenging (we did it on a nice dry day, but the windy slippery icy version of it may be unsafe). The end of the loop passes near a few interesting spots, including basalt floor.
Bonus : the swimming pool is 500m away, enjoy a good rest in the hot pot !!!

Beautiful waterfall, though a small one compared to the most famous ones in the area. As interesting is the short hike that will take you above the waterfall to a thawing icy lake and surrounding hills that offer a great view of the surroundings of Systrafoss.

Easily accessible great waterfall there's a picnic table just below the waterfall next to the stream there is a hiking trail right beside the waterfall. Parking is available just across the street it's is next to a road. There is a hotel nearby. It was not crowded as this is not that famous but you can actually see the falls from route 1.

Pretty nice area to stop for lunch. Two or three picnic tables just off the roadway near the bottom of the falls. Beautiful area!

Only 5 minutes off the 1 south, beautiful twin waterfall with a bench and relaxing shaded area at the base where the falls turn to stream. There are also a few short walking trails one of which takes you to the top of the ridge to the lake feeding the falls sytravatn, it is all stepped and takes only 15 minutes including periodic stops. Well worth the stops to see the falls or the lake above if you pass by.

Nice trail up to the top of the falls where you can see the lake Systrafoss falls from. Beautiful view, and you'll even find some trolls on the way up! Nice picnic area too

Such an unexpected experience! We read reviews about hiking up to the top to see the lake, but didn't realize there was a full circuit hiking trail across the top of the mountain! The hike to the top was pretty steep, but once you're at the top its a simple, relatively flat hike with truly stunning views. You'll end up hiking down on the other side of Skaftárhreppur near Kirkjugólf, and there's a nice path through town to get back to your car. Make sure to bring some water and wear layers - it was somewhat windy at the top.

Systrafoss is yet another waterfall close to the town of Kirkjubæjarklaustur. Overlooking the fall there is a nice restaurant with a great view and some picknik tables. If you're in the town of Kirkjubæjarklaustur, go and have a look.

Beautiful falls that split into 2. No crowds at all. In fact, we were the only people there. Nice paved parking area just across the road. No hiking involved to get up and close. There is a nice hiking trail in the woods here, and also the largest tree in Iceland is here as well.

Hiking trails provide access to close up views and nature. Best views of falls are at a distance.

Worth the hike all the way up, view of the valley is stunning. It's a full 2day cardio/leg workout on the red trail.

Nice aerial view. Only short minute walk and you will arrive to the legendary lake of twin sister. You need not to be afraid in the height. People enjoy there for swimming and some happening on the top of the mountain. Dont forget to visit this place. They have coffee shop and bakery too. So enjoy the nature.

The waterfall is visible from some distance away, but what is not obvious are the short walks on marked routes that start from the bottom of the waterfall and take you along the valley a short distance or up the side of the cliffs to the lake at the top. The views are spectacular from the top but beware the shear drop. There are a few information boards explaining the history of the lake, the art installation by the lake and some of the local legends.

Great short hiking trail, no too difficult but really worth the small effort. Superb view but be careful around the edges!
