A nice and cozy hotel with great breakfast. But you need to reserve a table for dinner as they do not offer any food for dinner and there are only a few restaurants that are quickly booked.

Really enjoyed this little place. Nice layout, clean rooms, decor is on point. The little sitting area is cozy as hell.

This was my favorite hotel experience in Iceland. Wonderful historic building with friendly staff and a delightful continental breakfast. Our room was tight but the bathroom was nicely done in refitting a modern bathroom into an old structure. Hotel is very close to the harbor and Sugandisey Island.
The rooms do not have a tv but I would argue better for it.

The most comfortable bed in all of Iceland. Elevated design in a compact space. Gracious host.

We had the most incredible time here!! The host couple goes above and beyond to ensure comfort. The location is perfect and the beds are so comfy.

There is a great selection of coffee, tea, and alcohol. The breakfast in the morning combines a fruit platter and smoothies with a more European breakfast.

There is a central lounge area that is stylish, yet homey and welcoming. We really enjoyed our stay and will be recommending it to all our friends!!!

Lovely place. Charming old house. Everything is small and tight, but clean, sleek, and modernly refurbished. Service and ambiance is matchingly charming and friendly. Would recommend, and would visit again.

The difference between the 5 star reviews and the 1 star reviews are expectations. The Egilsen is a small guesthouse with room for about 15 people from what I could see. The rooms are compact but nicely designed. Staying there was a hugely enjoyable experience. I was travelling with family and friends and we ended up booking the hotel out. Our host was a friendly & attentive Polish lady. The nearby restaurants are superb, and we got to sample a lot of great Icelandic dining on our 9 day tour. Our breakfast in the Egilsen was delicious. The reception area doubles as a bar and eating area. We had tea, coffee, beers & chat with a pleasant ambiance. The overall experience for our tour was like having our own catered townhouse in a charming Icelandic port town. We had a blast!

We stayed there around Christmas. They gave each of us a Christmas ornament with the hotel on it, very cute. Complimentary tea and meringue cookies were delicious. We could smell the fresh bread they were baking for breakfast when we came in for the night. The breakfast was incredible, they offered more than you would expect from a small hotel. They even had a pack n play for our 2 year old to sleep in.

A beautifully decorated and cozy hotel in a historic building. The staff is hospitable and they create a great atmosphere in the lobby/lounge. The rooms are compact, but very efficient. They have very comfortable beds and hot high-pressure showers (really all you need). A great place to unwind after a day of long hikes or boat excursions in Snæfellsnes and Breiðafjörður.

I loved staying in this little guest room. This was easy to find, in a great location for exploring the peninsula and near a supermarket, restaurants and walking trails up to the lighthouse. The rooms were tiny, but people gather in the reading room, which was so plush, welcoming and nicely stocked with books, games and plenty of coffee or tea in adorable platters. The beds were so comfortable.

Fantastic hotel opposite the gorgeous Norwegian house. Lovely building, the rooms are immaculate - even the smallest single is a study in how to make the best of the space. Super comfy beds and the staff are so friendly. Breakfast is pretty amazing too.

Pros:
This charming boutique hotel looks like it was plucked straight out of a Wes Anderson film with its perfectly curated mid-century Scandinavian decor. It still is a modern hotel in every other respect though, with modern bathrooms, comfortable beds, and good wi-fi. The staff is friendly and professional — ready to help with local travel tips and restaurant recommendations.

Cons:
For the price, it seemed a little excessive to charge extra for breakfast. It was good (the smoothies are the best part), but wasn't dramatically better than comparable hotels that included breakfast in their rates.

As an Icelander I felt right at home at hotel Egilssen. Even the smell reminded me of warm memories from my youth. Everyone we met working there were so warm and lovely. We chatted quite a lot. The breakfast fast beautiful and the rooms super cozy with beautiful views.

Great location, just steps away from the harbour, two resaurants and a coffee house across the street! The house itself is a lovingly restored and cozy turn of the century house. Service was impeccable, breakfast scandi-licious. Amazing staff!

We went kayaking and mountain bike riding, both were fantastic.

All in all, a perfect two night stay. Higly recommended!

Staying in this lovely hotel was just a nice expierence. Windows facing the open sea over the harbour, really comfy rooms ad beds, with a peculiar nordic style that you just can't avoid falling in love with. Breakfast is delicious and the owner is always nice and willing to help. It's certainly a must if you're planning to stay for the night in Stykkisholmur, be sure you don't miss it!

We had such a beautiful night here just before Christmas. Cosy, beautiful interior design, totally charming. And we climbed over the hill at the end of town and saw the northern lights. So nice of Phillip to conjure those up for us... Thank you!
