Fantastic, what an experience! Worth it? Yes!

After an easy, 45min walk across the foggy lava fields, you arrive at base camp. There you get your helmet, light and security gear and it is a 5 minute walk to the entrance. You descend 120 meter into the magma chamber of a dormant volcano. Spectacular, the cold, the colours, the wet, everything! Tasty soup afterwards.
Hiking shoes recommended, but sneakers will do. Bring multiple layers, a raincoat, sweaters. It is possible to lend water tight jackets on the spot.
You spend 30 minutes on the ground, underground. The whole experience takes 4-5 hours.

This is a once in a lifetime experience and amazing!
The price is pretty crazy but the experience is so great it’s hard to be too upset.
The hike is easy but quite exposed if weather is bad, but they provide ponchos etc if needed.
The only place on Earth you can experience it so give it a go if your budget can stretch.
The soup was nice but lacked meat, would be better with some bread too!
If you are scared of heights the descent is a bit scary but it does feel relatively safe and professional.

This is the only one place of this type in the world. The trip actually begins at the meeting point and you get there after a 3km trek. Here you can rest, drink some coffee or tea and prepare to get into the volcano. In the volcano you spend about 20 minutes (the temperature there is about 5°C). After that you get a portion of soup, lamb, or vegetable. You can also buy some souvenirs there or go the toilets.

Once-in-a-lifetime experience. Just stand in awe and marvel this treasure. The guide was very nice and the little hut next to the volcano offers quite delicious soup. The hike was quite relaxed, the guide will tell you a lot anecdotes about the earth and Icelandic lifestyle.

I was very nervous about the ride down into the volcano. Our guides were amazing and made me feel safe and secure. Don't think twice, it's an adventure of a lifetime.

Visited with the Into the volcano tour from Reykjavik. Brought there by minivan. A hike of 45 minutes with excellent explanations of the variety of lava fields and lava related phenomena. At the foot of the volcano we had a coffee break with safety instructions, followed bij a ten minute hike to the open elevator. Well maintained, properly organised and knowledgeable guides. Inside the volcano it is cold, so bring extra layers. Great colors of the rocks and a unique experience to be in a natural lava chamber. Only opened up for visitors from 2012 onwards. Worth the visit and the money, although it is indeed expensive. Afterwards a nice cup of Icelandic vegetable soup. Friendly service throughout and we could ask our guide Jonas everything, also on other Icelandic topics.

This was one of the most amazing experiences in both my husband's and my lifetime! The crew is exceedingly friendly and knowledgeable, the short hike to the volcano is out of this world and the volcano itself is absolutely breathtaking. I would recommend this experience to anyone fit enough to hike for an hour, we even recommended it to an Icelandic tour guide yesterday who always wanted to go.

Highly recommended. Apart from the fantastic view inside the volcano, the logistics to the volcano is well arranged. The hiking is very gentle and they provide rain coat if needed. Before going inside the volcano, there was a base camp providing hot drinks. After the visit and coming back to the base camp, there are delicious soup provided. Done with my two kids who are 5 and 7 years old without any problem. My parents are 61 years old and have no issue either. We all enjoy a lot.

Amazing experience in a very unique and beautiful place. Our guide from "Inside the volcano" was very friendly and engaging. It made our hike to volcano fun, educational and entertaining.

Beautiful and well worth the money. As you propel down the hole you will see amazing colors and various layers of rock from when the volcano erupted. At the bottom you get to do a walk/hike around in a loop to view everything. The loop is climbing up and down sharp and difficult rocks to walk on and over. So be prepared for it. The experience is amazing and is a must do!

Awesome experience, being INSIDE a real vulcano! The lift is *special* if you're afraid of heights. We had a funny and friendly guide. The short hiking tour (~1 hour) is flat and really easy.
We really enjoyed the tour and the shirt stay at the "base camp".
Only thing to mention is the price: 300€ is really a lot for this trip - but it will bring a unique experience

We visited in May 2017 and HIGHLY recommend the experience! Wear good hiking boots for the trek to and from the volcano. There is nothing in the world to compare.

Went to Iceland for our honeymoon and had and absolutely amazing time. The sights are incredible. It's about a 45 minute hike to the volcano from the base. I enjoyed every second of this trip. Highly recommend going here at least once.

An amazing experience! Photos can’t do it justice. I’ve hiked lava tubes in California and done Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico, but this is in a class by itself! An easy 45-minute hike leads to Base Camp. Suit up and then a short hike up to the “lift” - a glorified window washer’s platform that lowers you 400ft down through a narrow passage into a huge chamber. Well lit with a path to take in views from around the bottom. Great guides!

1000% worth it. This was our "splurge" of the trip, but it's definitely worth the money. Fantastic one of a kind experience, and the hike to get to the volcano itself isn't bad at all!

I have no word... This feels like a true adventure, very professionally organized by the team. Even the lamb soup offered in the lodge at arrival was fantastic... and pointless to say that diving in the magmatic chamber was a thrill...

Must do if you can afford it. I have been so lucky to go inside 2 times. There is a 30 min easy hike to base camp. It's only open from Mai to Sept.
It is the only Volcano in the World you can go inside. The colours are so beautiful.

This is a once in a lifetime trip. If you wish to visit this beautiful place, please read all about it before you go. From where you leave the vehicle, there is a two mile walk to the place where you will be kitted out before being lowered inside the volcano. The staff look after you and take your safety seriously. Inside the volcano it is breathtaking. After coming back up there is a bowl of hot stew waiting for you before doing the long walk back. The scenery is spectacular. Well worth the money.

So impressive! I used to be a lava tube guide so I did have some expectations and this tour exceeded them! Just a pity the caving itself only lasts half an hour...still worth it, it was amazing and the staff were super friendly and professional.

Amazing experience, the whole trip is run by the inside the volcano group, and is an amazing trip to do in an afternoon. The trip involves a 45 minute gentle walk from the lodge to the base camp where you go up to the volcano. The lodge is located barely 40 minutes from Reykjavik. The staff are informative and friendly, and they prepare an amazing meat stew upon your return to base camp from the volcano. The volcano experience itself is incredibly unique, with nothing else like it in the world. A must do for anyone trying to see the most iceland has to offer.
