Such an easy spot to miss. A small lay-by with an information sign. There is a small pathway that leads up to a caldera or fissure crater. You can walk around and in this crater to give you a sense of scale of the volcanic activity on the Reykjanes peninsula. There are some incredible rock / lava formations on the walk up to the crater, well worth the short stop.

A fun, short walk to a beautiful viewpoint! It was really neat to stand in the crater and walk around the rim of this old volcano. You can see the line of ancient volcanoes stretching across the barren landscape for miles, ending at the Atlantic Ocean. I highly recommend checking out this spot!

Wonderful view point. You can walk to the top of small volcano crater, very short walk.. You can see a lot of other craters from the top, and also steam from nearby geothermal area.

Very suggestive place with lots of typical lava rocks (from black to red). Near the division between the two continents.

Cool trail with access to actual crater with an out and back trail of something like 13km if you're so inclined.

This was awesome. It a fast little hike maybe 150 meters from where the parking loop is at. Once at the top you can see a bunch. Super cool experience and only took a few minutes to accomplish, definitely worth checking out if you have a spare minute.

Lovely little side trip after you leave KEF and are driving toward more sights.

A must visit when in the area. Just next to the bridge between continents and to stand on top of a small volcano like that is breathtaking. The views of the fissure eruption from the top is amazing

Kurzer und einfacher Weg vom Parkplatz zum Krater. Fantastischer Blick über das riesige flache Lavagebiet. Zirka 250 Meter südwestlich des Kraters Richtung Meer gibt es eine kleine Kraterlandschaft mit kleinen Gewässern, flacher Vegetation und unfassbar schönen Farben. Ob man vom Krater aus dorthin wandern kann, weiß ich leider nicht. Man kann die Piste nehmen, die weiter nördlich von der Straße 425 links abgeht. Die Piste ist aber ziemlich holprig. Etwas mehr Bodenfreiheit beim PKW macht Sinn. Kein anderer Mensch dort.
