Beautiful, quiet place where you can surf! (Just make sure you have a warm wetsuit and boots! Water has like 10 degrees...)

Camp is basic but does the trick. Only beware of flies so take some repellent..

What a wide, gorgeous beach. The sand is soft and beautiful. I went on a cloudy day but my breath was still taken away. The drive from Flokalunder was all easy paved but the last 30km or so was gravel, up and down, steep, curvy mountains but doable even in my front wheel drive campervan. On the way there you get to see a stranded ship too.

A must visit on a sunny day at low tide. With parking at the church, the walk to the beach features vast lands of sand just barely covered with water so the reflection of the sky is amazing. Beware of bringing a backpack. My husband brought one and the birds literally attacked him thinking it had food so we had to turn around.

If you like the feeling of standing completely alone in an unbelievable expanse of nature, then grab a water bottle, pack a sandwich and make the drive and the walk. Absolutely worth it!

Beautiful, remote location. Quite a long drive, but worth it even in the rain. My husband and I were the only ones there and got to enjoy the quietness and bird watching. Good bathrooms with warm shower and plenty of toilets.

Surreal red beach. 15 mins walk from parking area to the beach. Watch out for the tide. Nearly got trapped out on the beach when the tide came back in. It comes in fast!
Recommend going in low tide. Gravel road takes 30 mins from main road.

Just went there today in the late afternoon. The gravel road into the beach is not horrible, just had to take it slow. The view to the beach when driving in was beautiful. The sand was pinkish beige and was beautiful against the blue water and green hillside. We didn’t take the nature path but took a path through some of the grassy dunes and onto the sandy beach. It was low tide and so the water was very far out.
After we came back, we stopped by the lovely cafe by the beach for some warm drinks and snacks. To our surprise, when we looked back out to the beach after we sat down, the tide has come in super quickly and completely covered the area we were walking on.
It was a great place to spend an hour or two on our roadtrip.

My favorite beach in Iceland. Around high tide it's a mile hike across a glassy lake of inch deep water to the beach

This is an enormous beach. For anyone looking for a way to the waters, you need to park at the church near the cafe and walk about 2-3 kms -- first across the field through trail, then wade a couple of shallow rivers, and finally for a while on the sands. A really cool walk and highly recommended if you have the time. The river is cold but you can easily cross it barefooted.

Ok, the sand is not exactly red but almost, especially in the evening at sunset. The whole area is beautiful. I recommend reading about the history of it. Especially, the ransacking at Saurbær by English pirates and the macabre romance surrounding Sjöundá farm and the murders committed there. You can still see the ruins of the farm.

Sublime place, the road can be a bit hard on bad weather but its worth going. Also, get there on low tide only. During high tide tou won't be able to enjoy it that much.

Eventhough it was my scariest ride ever, it was still worthy to see this place, white/diff color of wide stretch beach, peaceful, ocean & everything about this place is perfect.
But if you are not about outdoors/nature then this place is not for you.😍🤩

Gem in Iceland. Worth to be there in a nice weather. But still very pleasant during a cloudy day. Interesting place to see a different colour of the sand than black:)
