New Grotto & Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes

Built and blessed on 3rd of February, 2018 ( coincidentally the day before the Feast of Our Lady of Lanka and the 70th independence day of SL ), both the grotto and the Chapel have been modelled on the Our Lady of Lourdes' grotto in France.

The architecture has been beautifully blended with the nature, thus creating a calm and peaceful atmosphere. The vicinity makes you remind of fairy tales and ancient castles in childhood stories.

Holy Mass will be held on the first Saturday of every month. It will be followed by a candle lit procession and recitation of the rosary.

Please bear in mind to wear appropriate clothing when visiting and please behave politely.

This a little chapel within the premises of Thewatte Shrine.. ⛪Newly built with a structure which you read on fairly tales.. 🥰 Very attractive and eye catching place.. Not much crowded even on weekends..

The exact structure of Lourdes has been build up and you feel very calm and peaceful mind when you enter this holy land. Praise the Lord

This Groto and the shrine is located at the National Basilica of our lady of Lanka's premises. It is an exact replica of the Lourdes' Shrine in France. There is a chapel on top of the grotto, and way of the cross and facilities for confessions and counselling. This place is a total green area. Surrounded by trees of all kinds. This is one of the rourist destinations and pilgrim places for Sri Lankans.
