Betong Chicken Rice

To me, this is undoubtedly the best Betong chicken rice in this town. Chicken is firm and lean, the soya sauce is very balanced. Not too sweet or salty and not to mention the chilly sauce that comes with chicken is ready to die for. The roasted pork is very crispy and not overly salty. Owner speaks fluent Cantonese dialect. Must try when you're in Betong. Parking can be very challenging better take a taxi there.

Very popular Chicken Rice shop located centrally at Betong. Tables are easily available & dishes are served within 10 minutes of ordering except when a tourist bus comes along and disgorge a bus load of hungry Malaysian tourists ; then the waiting time would be between 30 to 45 minutes. The Crispy Pork & BBQ Pork are nothing to shout about; the main attraction is the Betong Chicken 🐔. Pork Knuckles off the bones are also available. Prices are reasonable

Amazing Steamed Betong Chicken!!! Soft tender meat. Best in Betong.

Came highly recommended and it was in fact the best meal we had in Betong during our entire holiday weekend.
Located along the main road heading to north or betong / piyamit tunnel direction. It is about 300 meters from the clock tower. Parking is an issue so walking is the best choice unless you are riding.

The restaurant looks old but in this case old is gold. 2 shop lots adjoining but not really a lot of tables inside. We went for lunch and it’s almost full except for 1 table for us. I'm not sure about the other weekend, but during our visit, most were locals.

The waiter who is the son of the owner attended to us and he speaks perfect Cantonese. The accent is similar to Hong Kies. Even the owner speaks perfect Cantonese as well. We asked for half chicken and a plate of ‘less fat’ siu yuk (roasted pork). The owner came and tell us, we don’t do ‘less fat’ it doesn’t taste nice. We only sell fatty siu yuk. So we obliged. But when the siu yuk came, it was actually not so fatty (compared to Malaysian standard).

The chicken is smooth and feels more chunky than Melaka chicken rice. According to the owner, their chicken is 100% Betong chicken which is roamed-free and not caged. In Chinese, we called it ‘floor running chicken’ (direct translation). The chicken historically came from Kwangxi china. After finishing 1st plate of half chicken, we ordered another.

The owner is very friendly as he takes time to explain to us the history and why his chicken tastes different. All in all, we paid about THB1600 (about RM200) for 1 plate of siu yuk, 2 plates of half chicken, 5 rice and 7 drinks. That is a little steep but we take it as inclusive of the history explained by the owner. Education doesn’t come for free 😊

The pig's trotter was so soft n well marinated. There wasn't any taste of oilyness at all.

Chicken was excellent, the black sauce in the chicken was tasty but not salty. Crispy pork was crispy. About grilled pork was tender, should have more flavor. The dip was intense; It was so perfect when eating stream chicken.

Just discovered here on my last 2 trips.. Everything on the menu is great, I think I will make this my "must visit" shop.. Even the rice fragrant makes me drool already.. Totally recommended..

Given that I'm someone that loves chicken rice, I'd dare say this place serves very good chicken rice! Sauces are good as well! Try it!

Original Betong's chicken rice. Use only Betong chicken, very soft and delicious.

I had tried many shops selling chicken rice here and I found that this is the best. Fresh chicken and delicious radish soup. Chilli sauce and soya sauce are specially made.
