The fortress is spectacular. It dominates the city from afar and as you get closer you realize how massive it is.
Loved the ramparts walk, the museums. The view from atop is just breathtaking especially on a clear day. You can see the Alps surrounding Salzburg and a cool view on the city as well.
The fenicular is included in the entry price, so you can ride down to the city after the visit.
I recommend hiking up, using the trails from the north side.

This is a must if you're visiting Salzburg. The fortress is one of the most characteristic places in the city.

It is very well preserved, with a lot of museums and rooms to visit. It also offers an amazing view above the city.

I really enjoyed the many snippets and videos scattered around the place. They provided a lot of historical anecdotes and gave us some glimpses of life back in the middle ages.

You can reach the fortress with a funicular or on foot. I recommend walking up there only if you have the endurance for it. The trail is quite steep at times.

I also recommend booking the tickets in advance online. There are always a lot of people going there and having already the tickets drastically reduces the wait in line.

The fortress is interesting, we visited it on the weekend, there were many people, but it keeps your attention, from the fortress the whole of Salzburg is in the palm of your hand, incredible views of the mountains and the city. The place is touristic, but worth attention. By the way, if you like us, you will hear cannons being fired..

It's worth visiting this fortress. There's so much you can see here and learn more about the history of Austria. The views from the fortress are breathtaking. The entry fee is €18 per person. After you have bought the ticket, you can take the shuttle train to get to the fortress.

Great place to visit. What they don't tell you until you climb the big hill to get there is that it costs to just get in the grounds. Its worth it just for the views though to be honest gazing over the alps especially during sunset was lovely.
I would recommend a visit if in Salzburg for a stay.

Enjoyed our day here. Very steep walk especially back down. Glad we went for the views. Remember you can take the hoist at the bottom if you don’t want the steep walk up and down.

Amazing 360 scenic views from the top of the fortress. Great Museum with good displays. We even went to a Mozart Concert (and meal) here which was very good! Definitely worth a trip especially if you have the Salzburg card!

It's a must to visit while in Salzburg.
Waiting time to the elevator could be a bit long.
There are a number of museums inside, and not all of them are available for Salzburg Card holders. Still plenty of things to do.
By Christmas the fortress inner yard has its own small Xmas market.
The top view is amazing!

Hohensalzburg Castle is worth visiting with its interactive and detailed explanation. All inclusive ticket 13€. There is no student discount. I recommend you go up by cable car. When you go out on foot, you already have to buy a ticket to enter the castle, so don't get tired by climbing 20 floors.

absolutely worth it for the 360° views of Salzburg. The Armoury was very insightful and we loved that it was interactive, made for some fun learning. The Panorama Tour provided some phenomenal views and great historical insights into the fortress. The other museums were also great. Great way to spend the morning if you're visiting Salzburg

Great tour and castle walk. The tram price to the top is only a few euros more and worth the price to ride up and walk down.

Used the funicular to get to the top due to the weather but it was a very scenic ride. the museum of the fortress was really interesting (and is accessible with the Salzburg card), had a lot of history on the past ruling archbishops and the 600 year construction of the fortress itself. There was also a christmas market up there which was a nice addition

We used the funicular to get up as it was a very hot day. Great views over the city and an interesting walk around the fortress. We ate at the panorama restaurant at the top of the funicular and the food was delicious. It suddenly became very, very windy just as we sat down to eat which of course, stopped not long after we finished our food!
We had the Salzburg card so admission was free.

Beautiful fort, showing history of Salzburg. You can either hike or take a tramp to the fort which cost around 11.60 Eur for up-down journey. You can view the entire city from the fort, Beautiful sunset and the icy mountains. A must visit in Salzburg.
Visit before 16:00.

Such a fantastic view point from the top of the fortress, with snow all around made visiting it even more magical. Food in the restaurant is very good, the goulash is a must to try. Tender beef 😋😋😋😋😋

Buy the Salzburg card and get to this for free among other attractions! Absolutely worth going! It was packed at the top but there’s a queue and trail to follow so you’ll be ok and will get to see the sights and take pictures. Everyone does it. Just wait your turn. It’s worth it.

You get to see Salzburg and its surrounding area. 360 degrees view. You get the funicular up and then to get to the top you’ll need to climb up some steps. Being unfit I thought I’d die! If I could do it - anyone can. Honest. Truth.

It’s definitely worth going not just for the view but also a little taste of how life waste within the walls. Well worth a visit!

Must visit in Salzburg. The funicular was short but still fun. The view from the fortress is marvelous and it gives you a good perspective of the city of Salzburg. The place also has a museum, view tower and some restaurants. Overall it was a fun EXPERIENCE and educational.
