Amazing views of the Alps and Salzburg city from medieval remparts. Place not too busy and the clear weather was perfect for some gorgeous sights.

Definitely a must visit when you are visiting Salzburg! The observation deck is very underrated even though in my opinion, this is the best view you will get in Salzburg. Everybody goes to the Hohensalzburg fortress, which is just a 10 minute walk from this observation deck, but a small percentage of them go here. To get here you would have to hike a bit, but it is definitely worth the view at the end. The mountain range you see from this place present a serene and majestic panorama. The view you get is just amazing and feel so peaceful. They have a few benches where you can sit on and enjoy the view. Here you can take a picture of a lot of different angles, but the highlights are of course the view you get of the Fortress and the mountain range. Since there were not much people around it felt so peaceful and very far away from the city so we sat there, admiring the view for a while before heading back down.

*If you are just looking for the view of the mountain ranges in Salzburg, I would rather go here than to the fortress as it is free of charge.

Lovely little hilltop picnic area. It is amongst the old city fortifications which really add to the viewing experience. You can see an unobstructed view of the sourthern mountain range as well as the airport and western Salzburg.

There are a few seats which on a good day are likely taken. Nearest toilets are about half a kilometer a way. Food stall are quite close either north or east.

Just a short walk from the much reviewed and mentioned Hohensalzburg Fortress, this place also deserves a special mention despite relatively less publicity.

You have to walk up and down so it may be slightly tiring, but the view at the end is worth it. We took a round trip walking from the University Street to the Fortress to this observation deck and then back to the Street. Was slightly tiring so we had some breaks. Along the way though, there are many angles of the street and town you can take pictures of.

Up here, there are numerous benches for to sit, chill and snap some Instagram worthy pictures of the city.

Don’t throw stuff down here. You risk one life. (Below two not worth the effort) /s
Also great view here

Very nice and quiet place with stunning views of the mountains and the fortress. It's a short walk from the fortress and absolutely worth the effort. There's many benches to sit and enjoy your surroundings while away from the business of the city. There's also some cool background information on the buildings and the walls that still stand here.

This perspective is one that I don’t think a lot of people realize is available. Most people go up to the lookout points in the fortress and completely skip this small hike that gives them a different perspective of the city and a beautiful view that looks back on the fortress and the other side of the city facing the Alps. When we visited in April it was not crowded and we did the whole thing by foot and it was a beautiful walk and one that I would recommend even if you did go up to the fortress. There are drinking water fountains available to refill your water bottles along the way. Such a pretty pretty place.

This point of view is magical, especially if you go there for the sunset. You can have a nice shot of Hohensalzburg Fortress and of the surrounding mountains. Easy hike with the right shoes.

Stunning views, a lovely easy nice hike the stairs to go up from near the festival halls was steep and tiring, but take your time as the views were amazing, once you get to the top great views all around, there is a footpath leading behind the fort again amazing views... I did this with a few friends next time I'll do this on my own again.

Amazing spot for a view of the mountains or the fortress, it’s free and the square has some benches and a kiosk where you can eat and drink

Fantastic views of the castle and surrounding city/countryside. Worth the walk and effort. A pleasant place to walk to and quiet compared to most of Salzburg. Good for a picnic but take your food and drink with you; there are no outlets here.

This is one of the hidden gems in Salzburg that very few tourists would go. It takes a bit of effort to get there as it requires one to climb at least 100 meters. But the view is totally worth it, especially on a sunny day. The view of the Alpen is breath taking. There are also a series of trails that lead you to other lookout locations that have awesome view of the old Town and the castle.

Comfortable shoes are a must!

Walk around Mönchberg it's awesome, it offers a panoramic view of the whole city. You can easily spent an hour or an hour and a half walking around the hill can also enjoy a cup of Glühwein in the Kaffe that's in the middle.
