Wirtshaus Elefant

The restaurant “Wirtshaus Elefant” is located in the middle of Salzburg. Traditional restaurant with very tasty dishes. We decided to eat the famous "Wienerschnitzel" (means type of schnitzel made of a thin, breaded, pan-fried veal cutlet). There were also potatoes and salad. What can I say? One of the best Wienerschnitzel I've ever eaten! Really well prepared, just as you would imagine. The entire group was happy, we all ordered the Wienerschnitzel and 6/6 people were happy. Therefore a very clear recommendation from me! The price is not that cheap, but I can still recommend it. A taste experience.

We haven’t been terribly impressed with a lot of the food in Salzburg so far, but Wirtshaus Elefant is definitely the exception so far! Friendly staff and great food. The schnitzel was done perfectly and my wife’s goulash had a nice flavor!

A cozy and authentic Austrian cuisine. Dishes were delicious and well crafted. Some very unique options among the innards menu. One can taste a splendid traditional Salzburg dessert from egg whites here as well.
We only felt rushed as the main courses came when we still weren't done with the starter... And then dessert was also imposed quickly, we had to ask to give us a little break. This aspect could definitely improve.

In the heart of the city, authentic Austrian cuisine, elephants everywhere and fast and friendly service. The “Mozart-Topfenknödel” on berry sauce with fresh fruits were my absolute highlight. The chocolate taste of the Mozartkugeln and the sour flavor of the raspberries and fruits were balanced perfectly. The “steirischer Backhendlsalat” and the onion roast beef are also recommended. And for all elephant enthusiasts, the decor is an absolute dream. I’ll definitely come back again.

Very good traditional food at good prices.

We ate dinner here two nights in a row. Excellent food and friendly staff. We had several of the specials: the roast venison, the pumpkin gnocchi, the cod with mushrooms and noodles, and the fried chicken with potato salad. All were excellent. Don't miss out on the Nockerl for dessert.

Recommend making dinner reservations. They will seat walk-ins, but they want you to finish eating before the next reservation starts.

We had lunch here after our half day morning Sound of Music tour in Salzburg. Service was prompt and friendly. Our food came out fast. I would definitely say they served the best veal schnitzel hands down. The mix vegetable salad was the perfect side to go with it. Washed down with ice cold home made iced tea. My husband and son were happy with their dishes too.
To wrap up our meal was the much anticipated salzburger nockerl...our 2nd for this trip. Total blockbuster! 5 stars 🌟

The best wiener schnitzel I tried! Tender, soft and yummy. Accompanied with the cranberry sauce. The atmosphere is lovely and start are very friendly.

Best meal we had in Salzburg. We both had the specials. I had minced venison patties over garlic mashed potato and carrots. My daughter had the bread dumpling in mushroom stew. A little more expensive but 100% worth it. Even the service was great. Super friendly servers, very understanding of our inability to speak German.

Staff has been really nice and welcoming. The food tasted very good and we got big portions for fair prices. We tried pumpkin and garlic soup and 2 traditional dishes with meat. Very tasty! the environment itself was also pleasant. I would definitely repeat and recommend

This place was recommended to us if we wanted to try traditional food in Austria. Nice restaurant with good service. Food was good. We ordered salad, knodel, veal schnitzel, apple strudel, and nockerl. The nockerl was a large portion and should be shared. Come early if you want a seat outside.

Great service and cuisine, definitely reasonable prices, laid back ambience and great location. If you can't decide or wonder where to go in Salzburg downtown, this restaurant is a must try, also recommended by locals. The soup is exquisite, in particular.
