Incredible birthday supper!
The service, ambiance and food were 👌
We had the bruschetta which was perfect, the tenderloin & scallops and the beef ribs (yes, there’s 2!).
Best meals we’ve had in a long time and we live in Ottawa. Very impressed!

Stopped in for dinner after a day of wine tasting in the valley and we did not regret it! Great atmosphere and delicious food. I got the catch of the day and it was one of the best meals I’ve had in NS!

Dickie-Baxter is a spot worth traveling up to Canning for. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and really fantastic food. Veggies were great. Beef (1x steak, 1x short rib) was flavorful. Seafood (scallops) were perfectly prepared. This restaurant DESERVES to be included in any conversation around “Best in The Valley”. They’re really doing something SPECIAL here.

Been wanting to try this restaurant on a evening when we had child care! So happy we made that decision. The restaurant is nicely decorated (not over done), menu is minimal but all the dishes sounded amazing and well thought out. Service was great given the fact they planned to be slow due to the less than desired weather outside. We had the nachos to start, followed by a burger for my husband and the citrus haddock for myself. All our dishes were prepared well and full of flavor! We hope to visit again sometime soon!

Delicious food and amazing atmosphere! Great Mother’s Day dinner and we loved that they had GF options for bread. My mom loved the nachos.

Absolutely fantastic food and service!!! I've eaten at many great restaurants and had many great meals but Dickie Baxter's is by far one of the best restaurants I've eaten at. Tucked away in Canning NS this restaurant deserves to be packed every night. We were a party of 4 and we had the Korean nachos, the burrata bruschetta, the chowder, the mussels, and special tenderloin and scallops. Everything was incredibly flavorful, cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. And the service was excellent!! Erin was our server and she was knowledgeable, super personable and prompt. And Katrina at the front was wonderful as well. I can not say enough about this fantastic restaurant. If you have to drive an hour or more to get there, do it!!! It's worth it!!!

Went to Canning specifically to go here and it was amazing. The food Chef Wayne and staff prepared was fantastic. We had the stuffed French toast and a lobster and pork belly eggs Benedict. The wait staff were quite busy but still catered to our every need. A must stop place when visiting the valley!

I went here for lunch and I was not disappointed! I got a lobster roll with potatoes and it was sooo delicious. The server was very friendly and she did a fantastic job working all 10 tables. Love all the beautiful plants as well. I will definitely be back to try supper and brunch.

My partner and I have been here several times for lunch/brunch, and it has become a new favourite of ours. The food is awesome, the service is always friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is unique. I highly recommend this place, and definitely give their desserts a try, they are to die for!

Came in for brunch, both the servers were very friendly! We sat on the patio which was absolutely lovely, our server was super attentive and anything we needed she went and came back immediately with it. Food was great! Will be back

We went for lunch. I had the lobster sliders with a salad. Both were excellent. Staff were very friendly. We just happened upon this place and I highly recommend dining here.

I had no idea we have the MOST AMAZING restaurant in NS. My husband booked us reservations for our 20th wedding anniversary. We have never ever gone anywhere and had a meal with so much flavour that we didn’t need S&P! Lol Definitely be sure to dry the dill Mussels…. The steak melted in your mouth and the mashed potatoes I can’t even explain they were Devine! The meal was truly unbelievable and our waitress was phenomenal! By far the BEST meal we have ever had at a restaurant!! hats off to the chef and waitress for a truly wonderful 20th anniversary evening💜

Wow. Atmosphere, check. Beautiful renovated heritage home with beautiful appointments, lovely light and ambience, and friendly staff. Food - check+. The family enjoyed the stuffed haddock - (cooked perfectly, impeccably spiced), the bulgogi nachos (so fun and unique with great flavours and a touch of heat), and the beef and mash special (tasty med rare beef). Would come back 8 days a week.

A great place for exquisite food in the heart of the growing village of Canning. The service was friendly and the food was excellent. Inspired by local ingredients the chef creates authentic yet creative dishes to meet everyone's tastebuds. We had the filet mignon and it might have been the most tender and perfectly cooked steak we've had in recent memory. The accompanying smashed potatoes infused with goat cheese. Can't wait to return!

This is a very quaint restaurant downtown Canning. Staff were just great. Food was wonderful. Atmosphere is great too. Check this place out if you can. There is a great fish/meat shop across the street. Pics show two great meals there

Fantastic location in Canning. Burger was to die for. My girlfriend loved the Tofu salad bowl. Beautiful interior and a very nice atmosphere.

We dropped in without a reservation and were able to be accommodated at the bar (they were fully booked so we were thankful they were able to seat us!). The service was amazing and the food was exceptional.
The bartender recommend great drinks and we had some great conversation without it feeling intrusive.
The food was fantastic, the Lobster pappardelle was so good I still think about it! We had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert and it was super tasty, they even put a candle in it since we were celebrating our honeymoon which was such a lovely touch.

Enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Dickie Baxter Taproom Pub/Bistro. This is a restaurant is new, spotlessly clean, fresh & bright. The staff & chef are friendly, efficient and skilled. We tried the Curry Squash Soup, Chicken Panini, Chicken Alfredo & Haddock Burger - everything was delicious and served flawlessly. A new favourite for sure!
Given that we are in another COVID wave, capacity is 50% & nicely spaced. Take out is also available if you are not comfortable dining in at this time.
