Looking for English language books in Montreal? De Stiil should be one of your stops. Many titles, many genres, and the books are easy to pursue. There is a clear vision for what this book store should look like. Are there books on shelves? Yes, but in the center of the space are tables with books neatly arranged with plenty of space between them, so that you can easily make sense of what you are seeing.

Most of the books are on the shelves lining the room. This is a book store after all. But you can find a staggeringly wide selection including books in translation. Are you looking for something that was written in Japanese, Russian, Arabic, Hebrew? They've got you covered. And those are just the languages I remember seeing a month later. I think that's less than half the total number.

I visited this bookstore this past Tuesday. Lovely vibe. I enjoyed the "non-cluttered" layout of the shop. The collection of hand-picked books by the owner makes it so much easier to browse (leisurely) through and make a selection. I'll definitely be back.

My girlfriend and I happened to walk by this lovely shop today, I am so glad we stopped in. It has the feel of a small bookstore, but a selection that would put even the largest bookstores to shame. The collection here is a mixture of carefully curated modern releases and classics we all know and love. The owner (Aude?) was incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable, we can’t wait to return for a reading night!

The best independent bookstore I've seen. A haven for English-speaking bibliophiles in Montreal. The owner's curation, of staff as much as of books, makes this a gem which competes with Shakespeare & Co., McNally Jackson, and London's Libreria.

This space is a monument to the enduring importance of independent bookstores: an agora, a place to remember forgotten books you've committed to read, and to be introduced to new, excellent authors you haven't heard of.
Warning: Hard to leave.

This bookshop specializes in literary fiction, including works translated into English. There is also a selection of recent nonfiction works. Aude the owner clearly has a keen eye and is highly knowledgeable. She’s also very congenial, including by welcoming dogs. Highly recommended.
