Hotel Fronfeste "Rast im Knast"

One the most strange hotel I've ever been! It's an old prison which has been completely renovated and transformed into a bed and breakfast. There are many kinds of room, most of them have been obtained from the old prison cells, so they are small and ideal for one or two people, but there are also bigger rooms, like the one I was, which was the prison director room and it's simple stunning. The staff is friendly and kind, dressed with police uniform to keep the prison theme, the place is amazing and there are many rooms to explore for take a picture. My room was wonderful but I can't give 5 stars because the problem with the shower outlet which was a bit annoying. Anyway I had a wonderful stay and the staff provided me extra towels to dry the bathroom. Nice continental breakfast, with a lot of fresh food. Probably the best hotel in Amberg.

ok, I can not compare with other hotels in Amberg as we stayed only 2 nights, and wanted to experience not usual hotel, but hotel in ex-prison; and I can say - as long as you interested in history, this place might be for you! As advice: read a bit before your stay or watch some videos about the place.
I was just a bit disappointed, because we didn't get Themenszimmer even when we booked 5 weeks in advance...
Facilities in our room were in a good condition. Reception administrator and cleaning personal = all friendly, left only positive memories.

Nice hotel within old town Amberg where you can walk to everything. Convenient parking garage behind hotel. You can purchase a parking pass for 10 euro for the duration of your stay. Staff is friendly. The optional breakfast buffet for purchase each day is perfect with a nice variety for its smaller size. The prison suite we stayed in was spacious and clean. We will be sure to stay here again when visiting Amberg in the future.

The rooms are small (they used to be jail cells after all) but are well furnished making the most out of the limited space. The rooms are clean and modern. The WiFi works well and the beds are comfy. The breakfast is 9EUR per Person extra, but is worth it. Lots of choice.

This place is amazing. It really was once a jail, and you stay in "cells", not rooms, escorted there by a cheerful "guard" in uniform, who will tell you all about the history of the place and, if you like, show you the torture chamber. The "cells" are small, naturally, but beautifully fitted out with great attention to detail. The beds were very comfortable, and it's right near the centre of the old town in picturesque Amberg. A must try experience. Highly recommended!

Have just spent a night under lock and key together with my sister and brother-in-law, who were visiting from Australia. Hotel Fronfeste has only been open for six months and is still expanding. The attention to detail is extraordinary, the cells manage to be elegant, comfortable, tasteful and just a tiny bit creepy all at once. A place with real history, restored with class and imagination. Our bicycles got their own cell beneath the 13th-century powder tower. Friendly staff, good breakfast (comes complete with a Cluedo-style crime game that you can play on your paper placemat), great location, very reasonable price. Highly recommended!

Very interesting concept of hotel - used to be a prison. Single rooms quite small (what do you want, it's a cell :D ), but includes all you need.

This is one super peacefull thematic hotel with beautifull bathroom, comfort bed and tastefull breakfast. Staff is in retro uniformes. Nice experience.

Very interesting place in the center of Amberg! Stylish prison hotel with very kind receptionists, cozy room with floor heating. If you travel alone, this is must jave.

Wir waren auf der Durchreise und haben eine Nacht im Hotel Fronfeste verbracht. Ein tolles Themenhotel, was wirklich auch für Kinder einiges zu Entdecken bot.

Wir hätten zwar gerne im Vorwege gewusst, dass an dem Abend eine Band auf einer Hochzeitsfeier draußen spielt, jedoch war es auszuhalten und es war wohl auch eine sehr kurzfristige Sache. Die Party war auch um 23 Uhr zu Ende.

Das Personal und die Chefin sind sehr nett und insgesamt ist das Hotel sehr zu empfehlen, wenn man mal etwas ausgefallenes sucht.
