This place is amazing. We went in, not expecting much, and spent over an hour (and I've not previously been an abstract art fan)...and it's free! Highly recommended to add this to your Cuenca itinerary.

Inside, they've renovated but have spaces where they've preserved the history (ie frescoes that had been covered by plaster).

So neat to see the inside and all the amazing art from Spanish abstract artists.

Maybe my favorite museum I’ve been to in a long time. Much bigger than it looks from the outside, amazing curation, and the perfect place to experience the views of Cuenca from!!! 10/10

Free museum in Cuenca, right in the center of Cuenca near the bridge. Love the history of the museum; love reading about the hanging house where the museum itself located. The mural inside the museum dated back to 15th century. It’s interesting seeing abstract art exhibits in the historical building; excellent combination!

This fascinating modern art museum was founded in 1966 by artist Fernando Zöbel to house his extensive collection. In 1980 he donated it to the March Foundation which has looked after it ever since and made many new acquisitions. It was the first ever museum of its kind in Spain and is housed in the 4 remaining 'Casas Colgadas' (literally the Hung Houses). There were originally eleven.

Behind the cathedral a street begins leading to the Casas Colgadas, symbolic monuments in the city, which date from the 15th century.

One of the houses contains the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art, one of the best in Spain. The wooden balconies of the Casas Colgadas hang over the course of the Huécar, but you have to cross the river to get one of the best panoramic views.

FREE Museum. A bit out of the city to go out to Cuenca from Madrid, but made easy on the AVE. It's well worth the day trip!!! An incredible selection of beautiful modernist sculptures housed in a very special building called "Casas Colgadas" because it literally hangs off the cliff. Inspiring place. Beautiful abstract work. Incredible views. You'll find work by spanish greats like Zobel, Oteiza, and Chillida. Very friendly staff. Don't miss the gift shop, it's a great place to get posters of the work for a great price.

Absolutely fantástic small but exquisite museum. Great variety of marvellous Fernando Zóbel works, some Antonio Saura (hilarious "Cocktail Party"!!), more José Guerero and several other artists in a stunning old building overhanging the river valley. Amazing. And all for free!!

Fascinating Museum with historical & interactive exhibits housed in a well preserved, stunning complex of ancient buildings ( the hanging houses)fused wih a more modern interior but sensitively done. Incredible views too. Fitting for its UNESCO heritage status.

The owners are the Juan March Foundation and is thanks to the benefactor Fernando Zöbel whose idea was to create it in the 1960's when abstract art wasn't that popular.

.

Well, you can't not give it 5 stars, can you? :-)

The emblematic sight of Cuenca, the Hanging Houses.

Best view perhaps from the Puente de San Pablo - the ironwork bridge, but also from down below if you do one of the walks alongside the river.

Inside is a somewhat eclectic collection of art, and of course you get the good feeling of being on the inside of one of the wonders of the world!

Well, one of the wonders of Cuenca, anyway!
